The Modern Characteristics and Meanings of F. L. Wright's Winslow House (프랭크 로이드 라이트의 윈슬로 주택의 근대적 특성과 의미)

  • Prairie style houses in first stages of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture activity pay a leading role in the process of house modernization as reflecting social and economic circumstances of the time based on traditional house style of the States. Wright's first work after retiring from L. Sullivan's office, Winslow house in 1983 is pioneering work predicting prairie house. This is because this house has only one modern architecture language of Wright and follow no style prevailing of the time. So, a researcher analyse Winslow house within the framework of functional thinking and new formative value creation in the modernization process of western house. Through this, The goal of this study is to find out modern characteristics and the meaning of Winslow house in modernization process prior to the 1900s. Firstly, the followings are modern characteristics of Winslow house. First, Winslow house has original planning breaking from custom based on modern functional and reasonable thoughts, and has practical space reflecting resident's inner demand. Second, Winslow house has modern new plastic value through original exterior breaking from custom and integrated shape of inner-outer space and structure. Secondly, the followings are the meaning of Winslow house in modernization process prior to the 1900s. First, Wright intend to suggest directions of residence modernization through Winslow house before designing Prairie style houses in earnest. Second, mixing of modern vocabulary and eclecticism show a sign of residence modernization process on the time. Third, inner-outer flowing space, opening space concept of Winslow house has innovative meanings predicting spacial characteristics of modern architecture.

  • The tendency of the Minimalism in the contemporary a architecture is based on Mies van der Rohe s saying ‘나SS IS m more" as the principle of the Minimal art and its formative c composition. It can be divided into technical Minimalism p prevailed in Northern Europe and the zone of German l language, and the regional one in Southern Europe and S Southern America. The former is interested in the experiences of the techniques and materials, and the latter in that of the s space and the place through the simple forms. The minialistic approach to the architecture is nat only m methodological one. It accepts the concept and the construction of architecture as 2 axes for making it keeps the tradition and c communication with the master builder, the materials, and i염 m means to compound. The expressive characteristics of works in M Minimalism are 1) as the formal issue, it is simple, self-referring. without any symbol or any allusion, and compounds the r repetitive forms as the comceptual aspec않 of architecture, 2) it h has the characteristies such as the approach directly to the m means by which architecture made, the critical interests to the m material attributes, and the capacity to the contemporary t technology as the issue of technique and materials, 3) regarding t the space and the place, it shows the good sense to the site in t the sphere intervention of architecture 1e Maininlalism architecture has i않 impotance in the point t that it seeks to the qualities immanent in architecture by s showing the marvelous status through discovering the i immanent properties of the site, program materials, and the s structure, and also it begins new way of interpreting a architecture with new viewpoint to the its essence as well as a architecture itself.self.

You may find them in the education for the Kids and the Handicapped. You will understand that will be able to attend with a role of a Educational medium as(a method of)medical treatment. On the point of view, I am about to study how to shape into the puppet shows as a traditional medium. And what will be expected much more influenced when accepts principles of Esthetics of an Image? I expect to purify emotion by Puppet shows to the Moderns who are live in the rapidly changing period situation. A Study on the Architectural Characteristics and Alterations of Sinan Kim Hwan-gi's House (신안 김환기고택의 건축과 변화과정에 관한 연구)

  • Suhwa Kim Hwan-gi established his own unique world of art based on Korean-style lyricism with his sophisticated and sublimated formative language as the first generation of Korean abstract artist. He made his name known not only in Korea but New York and Paris, the center of contemporary art. Presently, there is almost no material left for us to examine how Kim Hwan-gi's house looked in the first place. But there is a painting that chef Kim Am-gi possesses where we can find the image of painter Kim Hwan-gi's house drawn by recalling the memories at home in a far-off land. With that, we can see it should be the original looks of that house. To examine the original looks of Kim Hwan-gi's house when it was built, this author studied the closure land registration map. By analyzing 29 land registration maps around Eupdong-ri of Gijwa-myeon in Muan-gun of Jeollanam-do produced in 1917 which National Archives of Korea possesses, this researcher could figure out the status of land registration around Kim Hwan-gi's house with No. 15 and 22 drawing boards. According to the results of considering aerial photographs after the emancipation that National Geographic Information Institute possesses, this author has found that the arrangement of Kim Hwan-gi's house was changed from 1954 up to 2008. In 1954 aerophotos, we can see the main building and studio in Kim Hwan-gi's house and there was an additional structure between them. Kim Hwan-gi's house was built before 1925. The main building presently designated as a cultural asset and also the sarangchae arranged in the east and the studio, too, were built in the similar period.

A Meaning and Origin of the Stupa (불탑의 의미와 어원)

  • Buddhism that has arisen in India began to build the Stupa to enshrine body and Sari of Buddha as an object of worship. The stupa existed as a tome of holy leaders even before the birth of Buddha, which was called stupa or tupa in the Sanskrit and the Pali, the ancient language of India. The stupa was renamed accordingly in each Buddhism transmitted countries such as Ceylon, Tibet, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand and China and also reshaped according to their own formative style. But its original meaning and type are kept unchanged. The stupa was established in the 4 holy places including the birth place of Buddha, the place where Buddha found enlightenment, the place where Buddha preached for the first time, and the place where Buddha died. Thus, a pagoda to commemorate holy ancient places is called Chaitya, which became differentiated from the stupa in which Sari is enshrined. The stupa means Nirvana, the eternal body of Buddha, and also a place filled with teaching and preaching of Buddhism. It signifies the symbol of Buddha who escaped from the death and rebirth, to achieve complete extinction, i.e. parinirvana, and to reach ultimate eternal world, rather than simply means death. During the non-statue of th Buddha period, people built the stupa to embody Nirvana of the Buddha, and worshipped the tomb where body of holy saints was enshrined. On the other hand, they also sanctified memorial things such as tools that holy saints used, the Bo tree under which one achieved Nirvana, Dharma cakra that implied words, footprint that carried out mission work, and a way to reach to heaven.

A Study on Deformation Dipicted on Western Costumes of the Late 20th Century (세기말 서양복식에 표현된 Deformation에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyzed the types of Deformation dipicted on the late 1990s western costumes. The late 20th century cultural experience or lifestyle is interpreted with 'popular culture' ,popular culture is described as cultural phenomenon in postmodern condition. Contemporary popular culture may no longer be strictly 'working-class' as the idealistic purists of political formalism would like to , but does emerge from subordinate cultures, from the inventive edges of the consensus, and from the previously ignored and suppressed. It gestured through a widening democratization of styles, sounds and images, to an important remarking , to new possibilities , new perpectives, new projects. The growing importance of popular culture as a source for change of expression in the art, expecially new desire and will of artists has been caused lots of ' Deformation' in their works. Deformation, doesn't mean to represent object faithfully as it were seen through the artist's eyes. In a sense it implies that artists deform it with conscious or unconscious form. So in this study , the phenomenon of the postmodern western costumes is to describe ' formative language' called 'Deformation.' and it is classified three types, that is, 'Deformation of human-body image.' , Deformation of silhouette.' 'Deformation of detail.'. First , Deformation of human-body image is represented by deconstructive , subversive image in western costumes, a lot of costumes types of deconstruction have been shown by fashion designers are emphasized empathy with Deformation of human-body image. Second, Deformation of silhouette is also represented subversion of traditional manner and ultiity, underwear and outwear structure and ugly image. parody image of postumodernism , and so on. Above all, the late 1990s western costumes with Deformation of silhouette was an infinitely larger and more complex world than it appeared from outside and has expressed as a rejection against the values which traditional aesthetic concept had pursued, And parody through the change of internal meaning is to bring about parodox, irony, contempt, satire , unexpectedness by applying the original to inapproporate subject through its substition, inversion. Third, Deformation of detail is represented overdecoration, exaggerative distortion of for , overlapping and fetish image, parody image, kitsch image, and so on , Once fetish achieve a certain' style factor' among trendsettler, they are picked up by internationally famous fashion designers, The characteristics of kitsch are overdecoration , unfitness , imitation , used western costumes.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to study about destructive method in late twentieth Century Paintings. To do this we will consider the examples of Frank Stella and Anselm Kiefer's expressive methods. And this thesis is designed to investigate the change of the two Modes. The centering change is in the destructive manner of them, and they are traced systematically. In these chapters we will study the procedure of the destruction and specification of the Modes; the subject which contains the special element, the relation between it and the artist's willful meaning, morphological specification, symbol system formative language, subject, material and coloring way. etc. The origin of the methodology is systematically studied and the procedures of the content applicated are considered. In the special characteristics of the methodology, the special feactures it contains will be considered. The basis of the deconstructive idea from Nietsche, Derrida, Saussire, Andrew Benjamin and others will be applied to understand the two Modes of artistic methodology, and whether or not they can be tools of explaining the methodology of our time is distinguished. Next, the methodologically founded contents and concepts from Chapter#2 are related and intertwined together. The outer destructive aspect and inner destructive specification are centrally uncovered by the Interpretation. The resulting background of the Mode, the factor of destruction and central concept, along with the works, applied ideas, and pre-scholar's writings, are conjoined and explained. The characteristics of S Mode are revealed as being similar to those of Vandalic Destruction and Baroque formalistic Style, while K Mode is closely related to Iconoclastic Destruction and Neoclassical Antiformal Style.

  • Today's Digital Environment made Typography to enter into a new phase. The Type which is a principal component of Typography is no exception to this aspect. However since the existing two-dimensional space has figurative potential, Visual Communication designers are still striving to explore both X axis and Y axis. In this context, Z axis which signifies 'Depth' is often recognized as an unfamiliar mathematical concept unrelated to Design Sensibility. If Z axis is used, the figurative aspect can be acquired, which was hard to be realized in the flat space, because the additional space of depth allows the expansion of omni-directional expression of target. Most notable is the fact that Z axis provided by Digital Environment has actually long existed and is inseparable from Type. This study, therefore, focuses on the three-dimensional expression of Type in the Visual Communication Design area by taking into account the above characteristics.

A Study on Funk Ceramics in the 20th Century through 'Irony' ('아이러니'를 통한 20세기 펑크 도예 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to attempt a convergent study by analyzing modern funk ceramic artworks through 'Irony', which was mainly used in rhetoric and literature. The irony has come to modern times and has embraced the type of irony by Jung Keut-Byul, a literary critic who has discovered that the classifications and definitions are different from each other, and who has solved these problems and has newly classified the irony (the irony of oxymoron, the irony as a counterstatement, the irony of dramatic turn, the irony as a poetic truth) as a framework for analyzing the works of 20th century punk potters. As a result, the formative language found in funk ceramic art had many similarities with the irony of duality of surface and reality, and its humorous and comic character was more prominent than the heavy, melodramatic tone shown in literature. It was also found that the media characteristics and craft properties of ceramic art, such as clay and glaze, have become the drivers for ceramic sculptors to draw attention in funk art.

A Study on the Characteristics of Museum Projects by Richard Meier (리챠드 마이어의 미술관 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study propose to analyze the design method and the form elements of museums, of works by Richard Meier, and through the analysis, spacial characteristics of museums will be understood. The museum works of Richard Meier, as an exhibition space, not only display the art works efficiently, but they also offer visitors the opportunity to experience the art of architecture, as a cultural space. Richard Meier, when working on the projects, has utilized the design methods and the architectural language, learned from Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, resourcefully. Having the structural grid as basis, the rational rectangular forms were intended for exhibition space, while the circular and partial circular forms of geometry were utilized in formative space. This was able to maintain the balance between functional and formative space. In the museums of his works, the ramp and the glass wall separated from the structure become very important means of expression. The ramps, not only make people to enjoy the interior and exterior of museum, but also able them to see the works of art from different distances and angles repeatedly and the large glass wall reveals the various shapes of interior to exterior. In comparing with the design method and language of two masters mentioned, the design principles and elements, developed by Meier were applied to the site plans, exhibition space planning and elevations to manifest its originality. The design concept, derived from the urban fabric and historical buildings around, gave harmony to the museum with its surroundings, and employing the deformed axis brought variation and the effect of diversion to the site plan. The exhibition space is much vitalized by the well arrangement of various exhibition fixtures in the museum. The exhibion fixtures, which the partitions, shelves, miches, and stages were put together in flexibility, play multiple roles as partitions dividing spaces, as furniture displaying art works, and as elements creating forms. The systematically arranged fixtures, also produce several visual axes and centers, which have visitors appreciate the works of art in various perspectives, hence create a unique environment.
