Acoustic pressure response and NO formation of hydrogen-air diffusion flames at various pressures are numerically studied by employing counterflow diffusion flame as a model flame let in turbulent flames in combustion chambers. The numerical results show that extinction strain rate increases linearly with pressure and then decreases, and increases again at high pressures. Thus, flames are classified into three pressure regimes. Such non-monotonic behavior is caused by the change in chemical kinetic behavior as pressure rises. Acoustic pressure response in each regime is investigated based on the Rayleigh criterion. At low pressures, pressure-rise causes the increase in flame temperature and chain branching/recombination reaction rates, resulting in increased heat release. Therefore, amplification in pressure oscillation is predicted. Similar phenomena are predicted at high pressures. At moderate pressures, weak amplification is predicted. Emission index of NO shows similar behaviors as to the peak-temperature variation with pressure.
In this study, the effects of thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors on hydrate formation and dissociation behaviors were identified. The nucleation and growth of CP hydrate in the presence of methanol were monitored by optical microscope. Cyclopentane was used to demonstrate the oil phase in the pipeline in this study. Hydrate morphology, required time for hydrate formation, hydrate dissociation temperature were also identified by experiments. With the addition of methanol in water solution, the hydrate nucleation as well as hydrate growth were delayed. Moreover, hydrate morphology was also varied with the addition of methanol. Hydrate formation and dissociation temperature also decrease as the concentration of methanol increases.
In order to prepare polyion complex membranes useful for the separation of water-alcohol by pervaporation, k-carrageenan containing artionic sulfate groups in the backbone and good hydrophilicity was selected for the polyanion membrane material and poly{1,3-bis[4-butyl pyridinium] propane. bromide}, one of the polycations synthesized in our lab and containing cationic pyridinium groups., was used. The polyion complex membranes were prepared by the ion complex formation between kcarrageenan films and poly{1,3-bis[4-butyl pyridinium] propane. bromide}. On the formation process of polyion complex membranes, the way of potyion complex formation was carefully studied. In order to study the effect of the morphology on the permeation properties of the polyion complex membranes, which is one of the important factors affecting on the permeation properties of membranes but rarely studied, the microstructure behaviors of the polyion complex mem6ranes in methanol-water mixtures with different compositions Were also studied with x-ray diffractometry and polarizing microscopy.
This paper deals with the complex verb formation of passive and potential predicates and syntactic structures projected by these verbs. Though both predicates are formed with the suffix -rare which has been assumed to originate from the same stem, they show significantly different syntactic behaviors. We propose two kinds of concatenation of base verbs and auxiliaries; passive verbs are lexically formed with the most restrictive mode of combination, while potential verbs are formed syntactically via more flexible combinatory operations of function composition. The difference in the mode of complex verb formation has significant consequences for their syntactic structures and semantic interpretations, including different combination with the honorific morphemes and subjectivization of arguments/adjuncts of base verbs. We also consider the case alternation phenomena and their implications for scope construals found in potential sentences, which can be accounted for in a unified manner in terms of the optional application of function composition.
Soil aggregation is an important part of influencing the soil behaviors in reducing rainfall-runoff and soil erosion, aeration, infiltration, and root penetration. Some inorganic materials such as clay minerals, Fe and Al oxides/hydroxides, and calcium carbonate can act as cementing agents within macroaggregates. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of different cementing agents (Fe, Mn, and Al) on soil aggregate formation in reclaimed tidelands. Water stable aggregate ratio and MWD (mean weight diameter) were higher in iron dioxides treatment than two other treatments. This result indicates significant correlation between soil aggregate formation and iron dioxides.

This paper presents a framework for the self-organization of swarm systems based on coupled nonlinear oscillators (CNOs). In this scheme, multiple agents in a swarm self-organize to flock and arrange themselves as a group using CNOs, which are able to keep a certain distance by the attractive and repulsive forces among different agents. A theoretical approach of flocking behavior by CNOs and a design guideline of CNO parameters are proposed. Finally, the formation scenario for cooperative multi-agent groups is investigated to demonstrate group behaviors such as aggregation, migration, homing and so on. The task for each group in this scenario is to perform a series of processes such as gathering into a whole group or splitting into two groups, and then to return to the base while avoiding collision with agents in different groups and maintaining the formation of each group.

This paper presents a framework for decentralized control of self-organizing swarm systems based on the artificial potential functions (APFs). The framework explores the benefits by associating agents based on position information to realize complex swarming behaviors. A key development is the introduction of a set of association rules by APFs that effectively deal with a host of swarming issues such as flexible and agile formation. In this scheme, multiple agents in a swarm self-organize to flock and achieve formation control through attractive and repulsive forces among themselves using APFs. In particular, this paper presents an association rule for swarming that requires less movement for each agent and compact formation among agents. Extensive simulations are presented to illustrate the viability of the proposed framework.
This paper presents the analytical approaches to predict cutting fluid aerosol formation characteristics in machining process. The prediction model which is based on the rotary atomization theory analyzes aerosol behaviors in terms of size and concentration. Experiments were tarried out to verify the aerosol formation prediction model under various operational conditions. The experimental results which are obtained by Dual-PDA measurement show resonable agreement with prediction results of aerosol concentration. This study can be provided as a basis to estimate and control the hazardous cutting fluid aerosol in machining process in view of environmental consciousness.
In this paper, electrochemical techniques are used to investigate hydrothermal-electrochemically formation of barium titanate (BT) ceramic films. For comparison, the electrochemical behaviors of anodic titanium oxide films formed in alkaline solution were also investigated both at room temperature and in hydrothermal condition at 150.0 ℃. Film structure and morphology were identified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Titanium oxide films produced at different potentials exhibit different film morphology. The breakdown of titanium oxide films anodic growth on Ti electrode plays an important roles in the formation of BT films. BT films can grow on anodic oxide/metal substrate interface by short-circuit path, and the dissolution-precipitation processes on the ceramic film/solution interface control the film structure and morphology. Based upon the current experimental results and our previous work, extensively schematic proce-dures are proposed to model the mechanism of ceramic film formation by hydrothermal-electrochemical method.
Effects of various reaction factors such as pressure, time, and temperature on clathrate formation were investigated for hydroquinone with $CO_2$ and $N_2$. Experimental and spectroscopic results indicate that $CO_2$ plays more preferential role in forming hydroquinone clathrates than $N_2$. These results can be used in application of selective $CO_2$ separation from flue gases with the formation of clathrate compounds.
