Emission tests were carried out to investigate the characteristics of concentration according to flooring sort using small chamber method. The target Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) included 27 individual compounds of environmental concern, which were determined by adsorption sampling and thermal desorption coupled with GC/MS method and by DNPH cartridge/HPLC method. The emission factor of Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) and Formaldehyde (HCHO) was detected $0.3mg/m^2{\cdot}h$ and $0.2mg/m^2{\cdot}h$ respectively, and the floorings of 37 (9 PVC Tile, 10 PVC Sheet, 18 Flooring) were satisfied emission standard. TVOC emission factor appeared in order of concentration of PVC Sheet, PVC Tile, and floor flooring, while HCHO was detected very high emission factor (as $0.4mg/m^2{\cdot}h$) at floor flooring above PVC series (as $0.001mg/m^2{\cdot}h$).

The purpose of this study is to develop an inorganic filling adhesive using MKP and borax based on Dead-burn magnesia and fly ash. First, basic experiments was conducted to derive the proper addition rate of MKP. And this experiment was carried out according to addition ratio of borax. The test items are measured for pot life, flexural strength, compressive strength, adhesive strength, tensile strength, ratio of temperature change, ratio of hardening shrinkage, radon gas and formaldehyde emission. As a result, the proper addition rate of phosphate was 35%. The pot time is about 10minutes, 15minutes and 25minutes according to addition rate of borax. The flexural strength and compressive strength were obtained at 12hours for minimum flexural strength of 8.0MPa and minimum compressive strength of 31.0MPa. The tensile strength was the least 4.1MPa, and the ratio of hardening shrinkage was maximum 2.4% and ratio of heat change was maximum - 0.3%, which satisfied all of the quality standards of 'KS F 4923' (epoxy resin for repairing concrete structures). Both Radon gas and formaldehyde emission was not detected.

In this study, eco-friendly hybrid composite boards were manufactured from green tea, three kinds of charcoals and wood fiber for developing interior materials to reinforce the functionalities such as the deodorization and the absorbability on the green tea-wood fiber hybrid boards in the previous researches. The effects of kind of raw materials and the component ratio of raw materials on dimensional stability, deodorization and emission of formaldehyde were investigated. Thickness swelling of the hybrid composite boards increased with increasing of component ratio of green tea and charcoals, but the values were markedly lower than that of Korean standard (KS) for commercial medium density fiber board (MDF), except for hybrid composite boards composed of greed tea, activated charcoal and wood fiber. Reduction rate of ammonia gas for the hybrid composite boards composed of green tea, activated charcoal and wood fiber showed a high value of 96% after 30 minute from the beginning of the test, and the other hybrid boards also showed a high value of about 95% after one hour. Emission amount of formaldehyde was similar to that of $E_0$ grade in case of using $E_1$ grade urea resin, and was similar to that of super $E_0$ grade in case of using $E_0$ grade urea resin.
This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of a small chamber sampling and analytical method for the measurement of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) and formaldehyde (HCHO) emission from building materials. While VOC was determined by the adsorbent tube sampling and sequential thermal desorption coupled with GC/MSD analysis, formaldehyde sampled with DNPH-silica cartridge was analyzed by HPLC. Wide-range performance criteria such as repeatability, desorption efficiency, emission chamber recovery test, duplicate precision, breakthrough volume and method detection limits were investigated for the evaluation of small chamber method. The overall precision of the small chamber sampling and analytical methods was estimated within 20~30% for target compounds. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that the small chamber sampling and analytical method can be reliably applied for the measurement of building materials pollutants.
This study was designed to investigate the emission characteristics of unregulated pollutants (Aldehyde, VOCs, PAHs) as well as regulated pollutants (CO, HC, NOx and PM) from diesel medium-duty trucks. The emission characteristics of unregulated and regulated pollutants were assessed based on regulation standards (EURO 4 and EURO 5) and intake weight (2.5 ton and 5 ton). The results show that unregulated and regulated pollutants remained almost unchanged at higher speeds but decreased at below 23.5 km/h. Reduction in unregulated and regulated pollutants was noticeable in vehicles of recent regulation standards and light intake weight. The analysis of aldehyde using UPLC showed that formaldehyde and acetaldehyde of aldehyde were most dominant. The GC/MS analysis showed that benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene of VOCs was over 80% followed by toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene and benzene. In addition, the analysis of PAHs using GC/TOF-MS indicated that bi- and tricyclic aromatic ring of aromatic compounds was 73% and 53% at 2.5 ton and 5 ton vehicles, respectively. The results of this study will be contributed to establish HAPs inventory.
Formaldehyde(HCHO) and total volatile organic compounds(VOCs) can cause adverse health effects to the building occupants and may contribute to symptoms of 'Sick Building Syndrome'. These chemical contaminants are emitted from furnishings and electronic equipments as well as building materials. The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze VOCs and HCHO emission concentration from furnitures composed of wood materials including various chemicals by the large chamber method. This paper presents experiment results on the emission concentration of TVOCs and HCHO released from furnitures, such as bed, kitchen, sofa and table by a large chamber($24m^3$). The temperature and air humidity in the chamber are controlled to $25{\pm}1{\circ}C$ and $50{\pm}5%$ for this experiment. When the air change rate is $0.5hr^{-1}$, the background concentrations within the large chamber are below $50{\mu}g/m^3$ for TVOC, $5{\mu}g/m^3$ for HCHO and individual VOCs. The study is investigated the characterization of the chemical emission TVOC and HCHO concentrations and unknown VOCs from 6 furnitures.

Pork belly meat is one of the most preferred food items for many Korean people. The odorants released from cooking of pork belly meat were measured by three kinds of cooking methods (Charcoal-grill (C), Electric Pan (E), and Gas burner-pan (G)). A total of 16 target compounds including carbonyl compounds, volatile organic compounds, and poly aromatic hydrocarbon were selected and analyzed for comparative purposes. Their emission concentrations were quantified using HPLC-UV, GC-MS, GC-TOF-MS, etc. The gas samples collected by Charcoal-grill cooking showed generally enhanced concentrations of most target compounds among all three kinds of cooking methods. In Charcoal-grill, concentration of benzene, formaldehyde and pyrene went up to 543, 516, and 402 ppb, respectively. It the results are compared in terms of the sum of odor intensity, the highest value (4.25) was also seen from Charcoal-grill. The results of this study confirm that the significantly reduced emission of harmful pollutants can be attained, it pork belly meat is cooked by the Gas or electric pan instead of Charcoal-grill.

This study was conducted to investigate the potential of chicken feather (CF), which is a by-product in poultry industry, as a partial substitute of wood fiber in the production of wood-based fiberboard. Keratin-type protein constituted the majority of CF, and its appearance did not differ from that of wood fiber. When the formaldehyde (HCHO) adsorptivities of CF compared by its pretreatment type, feather meal (FM), which was pretreated CF with high temperature and pressure and then grounded, showed the highest HCHO adsorptivity. In addition, there was no difference between the adsorbed HCHO amounts, which was measured by dinitrophenylhydrazine method, of scissors-chopped CF and CF beated with an electrical blender. Mechanical properties and HCHO emission of medium-density fiberboards (MDF), which were fabricated with wood fiber and 5 wt% CF, beated CF or FM based on the oven-dried weight of wood fiber, were not influenced by the pretreatment type of CF. However, when the values compared with those of MDF made with just wood fiber, thickness swelling and HCHO emission of the MDF were improved greatly with the addition of CF, beated CF or FM. Based on the results, it might be possible to produce MDF with improved dimensional stability and low HCHO emission if CF, beated CF or FM is added partially as a substitute of wood fiber in the manufacturing process of MDF produced with the conventional urea-formaldehyde resin of $E_1$ grade. However, the use of CF or FM in the production of MDF has a low economic feasibility at the current situation due to the securing difficulty and high cost of CF. In order to enhance the economic feasibility, it requires to use CF produced at small to medium-sized chicken meat plants. More importantly, it is considered that the technology developed from this research has a great potential to make provision for the prohibition of animal-based feed and to dispose environmentally avian influenza-infected poultry.

The test on the mix of PVA fiber of low carbon inorganic composite as a cement substitute found it to be satisfactory in terms of flexibility and stiffness. The result of the evaluation of the properties of low carbon inorganic panel revealed that the absorptivity was low at 8 to 9%, which is lower than the KS value of 25%. Also, the test on non-combustibility and gas toxicity found that these factors satisfied the decision criteria. In the test on heavy metals discharges, Pb, Cd, Cr6+, Hg, and As were not detected. Regarding far-Infrared emissivity and formaldehyde emission, the substitute was found to be harmless to the human body. Therefore, if the issue of shrinkage, which is a disadvantage of inorganic composites, is addressed, it is judged that it is possible to develop a low carbon inorganic composite panel with better performance.

This study was carried out to displace traditional virgin wood fiber by exploded MDF-waste fiber for the manufacture of medium density fiberboard. MDF waste was exploded in condition of $215^{\circ}C,20$ minutes. The higher the mixing ratio of exploded MDF-waste fiber, the lower the MOR and IB of MDF. There was no difference of formaldehyde emission by desiccator method between virgin wood fiber and exploded MDF-waste fiber. Adding $25^{\circ}C$ of exploded MDF-waste fiber met the KS of MDF 15 type.
