Flow resistance in a natural stream is caused by complex factors, such as the grains on the bed, vegetation, and bed-form, reach profile. Flow resistance in a generally stable gravel bed stream is due to protrudent grains from bed. Therefore, the flow resistance can be calculated by equivalent roughness in gravel bed stream, but estimation of equivalent roughness is difficult because nonuniform size and irregular arrangement of distributed grain on natural stream bed. In previous study, equivalent roughness is empirically estimated using characteristic grain size. However, application of empirical equation have uncertainty in stream that stream bed characteristic differs. In this study, we developed a model using an analytical method considering grain diameter distribution characteristics of grains on the bed and also taking into account flow resistance acting on each grain. Also, the model consider the protrusion height of grain.
The effect of the submerged high speed vessel on the ocean wave is made clear in the point of hydrodynamics view. In connection to the design of high speed ship, the flow analysis is carried out to predict the pressure distribution for drag and lift. The purpose of the research is to help the preliminary design of the economic hull form advancing under the ocean wave by estimating the resistance performance and the wave behaviour. In the present study, more efficient numerical approaches are investigated for the viscous flow analysis around a submerged NACA0012 hydrofoil with the laminar and incompressible fluid. Through the numerical simulation, it is found that the new numerical method becomes more efficient primarily due to the fact that the wave elevation is reasonably developed.

To reduce the air side pressure drop in air-cooled heat exchanger, tow-in type winglet vortex generators are applied. A specially designed multiple-channel test core was used in the experiments for the various geometry of winglet vortex generators. The proposed tow-in type vortex generator gives significant separation delay, reduces form drag, and removes the zone of poor heat transfer from near-wake of the tubes. The results show the significant pressure drop reduction for the tow-in win91e1 vortex generators with the similar enhancement of the heat transfer as other vortex generator applications in heat exchanger. In the range of Reynolds number of 350 to 2100 the pressure drop decrease 8∼15% and 34∼55% for the in-line and staggered tube banks, respectively, compared to those without vortex generators.
Reliability Based Design Optimization(RBDO) is one of the optimization methods that minimize the product failure due to small changes of operating conditions or process errors. It searches the optimum that satisfies the safety margin of each constraint, and it gives stable and reliable designs. However, RBDO requires many times oj computational efforts compared with the conventional deterministic optimization(DO) to evaluate the probability of failure about each constraint, therefore it is hard to apply directly to large-scaled problems such as a flexible wing shape design optimization. For the efficient reliability analysis, the approximate reliability analysis method with the two-point approximation(TPA) is proposed In this study, the lift-to-drag ratio maximization designs are performed with 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis and NASTRAN structural analysis, and the optimization results about the deterministic, FORM and SORM are compared.
The implementation of a insect-based flying microrobot has been previously proposed as using magnetic force. The flying principle of a butterfly is different from that of a airplane, which obtain lifting force above the wings by a air stream with low pressure. Butterflies obtain lifting force below the wings by flapping. They can fly when drag during the down stroke is greater that during the up stroke. The structure of flying microrobot must satisfy these condition. And that must be manufacture lightly and keep balance for rising to the air sufficiently. Moreover the efficiency of an electromagnet is high and the flux density is sustained uniformly and widely Nevertheless these condition is satisfied, the implementation of a flying microrobot is very difficult as the flying microrobot has to fly without guides or sensor. We propose differently a new model il] comparison with that other paper has suggested. This imitates the form of the Korean shield-shaped kite.
An Euler solver is developed to predict accurate aerodynamic data such as lift coefficient, drag coefficient, and moment coefficient. The conservation law form of the compressible Euler equations are used in the generalized curvilinear coordinates system. The Euler solver uses a finite volume method and the second order Roe's flux difference splitting scheme with min-mod flux limiter to calculate the fluxes accurately. An implicit scheme which includes the boundary conditions is implemented to accelerate the convergence rate. The multi-block grid is integrated into the flow solver for complex geometry. The flowfields are analyzed around NACA 0012 airfoil in the cases of $M_{\infty}=0.75,\;\alpha=2.0\;and\;M_{\infty}=0.80,\;\alpha=1.25$. The numerical results are compared with other numerical results from the literature. The final goal of this research is to prepare a robust and an efficient Navier-Stokes solver eventually.

Recently, the SWATH concept hull form which is capable of high speed navigation with small oscillatory motions in waves, was developed from the catamaran type hull forms. This paper discribes a method to predict motion responses of a SWATH ship in regular waves using the strip theory. The 2-dimensional hydrodynamic problem was solved using the improved Green integral equation which is free from the irregular frequencies. The effects of viscous drag which is dominant in heave damping of the SWATH ship are taken into account. Further, the effects of the stationary stabilizing fins which is important in high speed performance of the SWATH ship are included in the equation of motions. It seems that the motion responses calculated by the present method show better agreement with experimental results than other existing numerical results.
In this paper, a multi-scale model is applied to the simulation of thrombus growth. This model includes macroscale model and microscale model. The former is used to model the plasma flow with Navier-Stokes equations, and the latter is used to model the platelets adhesion and aggregation, thrombus motion, and the surface expansion of thrombus. The force acting on platelets and thrombus from plasma is modeled by the drag force, and the forces from biochemical reactions are modeled by the adhesion force and the aggregation force. As more platelets are merged into the thrombus, the thrombus surface expands. We proposed a thrombus growth model for simulating the expansion of thrombus surface and tracking the surface by Level Set Methods. We implemented the computational model. The model performs well, and the experimental results show that the shape of thrombus in level set expansion form is similar with the thrombus in clinical test.
Media representations of race have attempted to contain blackness by packaging and commodifying it to reflect and affect preconceptions and prejudices of dominant culture. From the early beginnings of blackface minstrelsy as entertainment form in the $19^{th}$ century, representations of African Americans in popular culture and mainstream media have been closely associated with the notion of performance. The performative nature of racial representations is situated within the discursive struggle over what it meant to be Black, or what it meant to be labeled and portrayed as Black in American culture. This essay discusses four films that contain performances of "blackness" that assemble race and gender in complex configurations: Bamboozled (Spike Lee, 2000), Girl 6 (Spike Lee, 1996), Big Momma's House (Raja Gosnell, 2000), and White Chicks (Keenen Ivory Wayans, 2004). I explore how the performative nature of "blackness" is emphasized, thematized, and problematized in these films through the physicality of corporeal figures that embody the close link between race and gender identities. Once we are cognizant of the fact that race and gender are fabricated cultural constructs and performative acts, we can recognize that notions of "blackness" and "femininity" are not naturalized or essentialist, but open to recontextualization and revision.
Research results for the pressure drop variance depending on operation conditions such as change of inlet concentration, pulse interval, and face velocity, etc., in a pulse air jet-type bag filter show that while at $3kg/cm^2$ whose pulse pressure is low, it is good to make an pulse interval longer in order to form the first layer, it may not be applicable to industry because of a rapid increase in pressure. In addition, the change of inlet concentration contributes more to the increase of pressure drop than the pulse interval does. In order to reduce operation costs by minimizing filter drag of a filter bag at pulse pressure $5kg/cm^2$, the dust concentration should be minimized, and when the inlet dust loading is a lower concentration, the pulse interval in the operation should be less than 70 sec, but when inlet dust loading is a higher concentration, the pulse interval should be below 30 sec. In particular, in the case that inlet dust loading is a higher concentration, a high-pressure distribution is observed regardless of pulse pressure. This is because dust is accumulated continuously in the filter bag and makes it thicker as filtration time increases, and thus the pulse interval should be set to below 30 sec. If the equipment is operated at 1m/min of face velocity, while pressure drop is low, the bag filter becomes larger and thus, its economics are very low due to a large initial investment. Therefore, a face velocity of around 1.5 m/min is considered to be the optimal operation condition. At 1.5 m/min considered to be the most economical face velocity, if the pulse interval increases, since the amount of variation in filter drag is large, depending on the amount of inlet dust loading, the operation may be possible at a lower concentration when the pulse interval is 70 sec. However, for a higher concentration, either face velocity or pulse interval should be reduced.
