The Design and Implementation of Mobile Application Solution for Forest Fire based on Drone Photography and Amazon Web Service (AWS)

  • Last year's Goseong-Sokcho forest fires have highlighted the limitations of extinguishing work for night-time forest fire and the importance of quick identification for information on the spread of forest fire. However, it is not easy to find services that take into account the characteristics of forest fires, as most existing disaster-related mobile applications and research assume various disaster situations rather than just forest fire situations. Therefore, a system that can provide information quickly is needed, taking into account the characteristics of forest fires and the limitations of extinguishing work. In this paper, we propose evacuation route guidance services that bypass areas where fire has already spread, supplement existing methods of extinguishing work, and provide general information on forest fire situations in real time, by putting drones into forest fire situations. It has been implemented to automate image analysis using the Rekognition service of Amazon Web Service (AWS), and the results of fire detection and the T Map API guide the evacuation path. It is expected that the results of this paper will allow efficient and rapid rescue and extinguishing work to be carried out, and further reduce the damage of human life caused by forest fires.

자연휴양림과 수목원 방문객의 이용특성 비교 연구 (Comparison of Visitor Characteristics in Recreational Forests and Arboretums)

  • 본 연구는 자연휴양림과 수목원 간의 방문 이용특성과 서비스 만족도, 전반적 만족도 및 충성도(재방문의향, 권유의향)의 관계를 비교, 분석하는 것을 목적으로 수행하였으며 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자연휴양림의 서비스 만족도, 전반적 만족도, 이용객 충성도 모두 수목원보다 높게 나타났으며, 상대적으로 서비스 만족도가 전반적 만족도나 이용객 충성도에 비해 평균 차이가 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 자연휴양림의 서비스 만족도는 전반적 만족도, 이용객 충성도에 영향을 주지 않는 반면, 수목원의 서비스 만족도는 전반적 만족도와 이용객 충성도에 정(+)의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 수목원 이용객의 전반적 만족도에 미치는 가장 큰 요인은 '산림 및 휴양경관'이었으며 재방문의향은 '자연경관 체험콘텐츠'와 '시설이용요금'이, 권유의향은 '자연경관 체험콘텐츠'가 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 인자로 도출되었다. 본 연구는 전국에 분포한 자연휴양림과 수목원 방문 이용객을 대상으로 공통된 항목을 동시에 조사한 자료를 토대로 분석하여 두 산림휴양공간 간에 이용특성에 차이가 있음을 확인하였다는데 의미가 있다. 향후 이러한 전국 규모의 이용객 실태조사 결과가 산림휴양공간 유형별 차별화된 운영전략 제시로 이어지기 위해서는 산림휴양공간에서 제공하는 서비스 전반을 아우르는 공통 조사항목의 개발이 필요하다. 더불어 각각의 산림휴양공간의 조성목적에 부합하는 기능 발휘를 위해 서비스 콘텐츠를 선택적으로 운영하고 있으므로 해당 항목을 추가적으로 개발, 모듈화하여 공통 조사항목과 병행 조사하는 것이 바람직할 것으로 판단된다.

  • The National Forest Inventory (NFI) is important for providing fundamental data for basic forest planning and the establishment of forest policies for the purpose of implementing sustainable forest management. The purpose of this study is to present the development of Korea's NFI including legal basis, sampling design, and measured variables and to review the usage of NFI data. The survey methods and forestry statistics among the Unites States, Canada, Japan, China, and European countries were briefly compared. Total 140 publications utilizing NFI data between 2008 and 2015 were categorized with 15 subjects. Korea has conducted the NFI 6 times since 1971, but only the $6^{th}$ NFI is comparable with the fifth, the previous NFI, because the permanent sampling plots have been shared between the periods. The Korean Forestry Statistics contains only half as many variables as that of advanced countries in Forestry. More researches were needed to improve consistent measurement of diverse variables through implementation of advanced technologies. Additional data for Forest Health Monitoring since the NFI $6^{th}$ must be under quality control which will be an essential part of the inventories for providing the chronological change of forest health.

국내외 농촌체험관광 포탈사이트 비교 분석을 통한 산촌체험마을 포탈사이트 개선 방안 (Improvement of Internet Portal Sites for Mountain Villages by the Comparison of the Sites for Rural Tourism Villages Nationwide and Overseas)

  • This study aims to compare internet portal sites for rural tourism, and to suggest the improved contents for homepage information on mountain villages under the Korea Forest Service. Design, interface, information source, and communication as estimation indicators were used to understand the characteristics of portal sites, and sub-items under indicators to analyse the portal sites were established. Nationwide portal sites were compared for rural tourism information. Also, German and Italian portal sites were compared as overseas cases. As a result, an internet portal site for information on mountain villages under the Korea Forest Service has to be improved as compared with other portal sites related to rural tourism. Firstly, it is necessary to modify and improve the category explaining mountain villages. Secondly, homepage for developing mountain villages has to be established and linked to potential visitors. Thirdly, portal sites for developing mountain villages subsequently have to be constructed under the site of the Korea Forest Service.

  • 산림자원을 기존의 육성 및 관리적인 측면에서 대외적으로는 대국민을 대상으로 이용과 대내적으로는 지속적인 산림자원의 효율적이고 체계적인 육성과 관리를 위하여 국가산림정보화를 추진하게 되었다. 특히 산림정보화는 산림이라는 특수성이라는 한계를 가지고 있는 상황에서 그간 많은 시도에도 불구하고 효과적인 측면에 있어서는 매우 미비한 상황이다. 일례로 산림청의 많은 내부 업무 시스템들이 현업보다는 본청에서 하향식 자료 취합을 목적으로 구축되었으며, 또한 대국민 이용측면에 있어서도 다양한 콘텐츠들이 이해당사자별로 제공됨으로써 유익한 정보들이 체계적으로 전달되지 않고 있는 실정이다. 이에 산림청은 전사차원의 문제 해결 방안으로써 IT Governance 개념과 EA기반의 정보화를 추진하고 더불어 기존 시스템 측면에서 업무와 서비스 측면을 강화하여 국가 산림정보화 기반조성 사업을 추진하였으며, 이에 따른 주요 추진 내용과 시사점 등에 대하여 제언하였다.

  • Recently people have increased to climb mountain. Owing to developing IT technology, the number of people using smart phone have increased remarkably as well. In this context, the Korea Forest Service has implemented the project of Mountain Climbing Information Public Service(MCIPS). The purpose of the MCIPS is to support climbing safely based on a trail map of spatial data of GIS(geographic information system). The customer will be able to access the MCIPS through n-screen(IP-TV, Web Site, Smart phone, Galaxy tab) provided a broadcasting and telecommunication convergence service. In addition, the MCIPS would support two-way communication through connecting to Twitter and Youtube. The MCIPS will make the customer fun using Augmented Reality(AR) of Smart phone(Android) and contribute to protecting people from mountain accidents.

Relationship between Growth Factors and Spectral Characteristics of Satellite Imagery in Korea

  • This study attempts to analyze the relationship between forest volume and age based on 5th NFI data and spectral characteristics of satellite imagery using ASTER sensor in Korea. Forest stand volume and age had the negative correlation with the spectral reflectance in all of the band (Blue, Green, Red, SWIR). With increasing of stand volume and age, spectral reflectance decrease. The spectral reflectance of band1 showed the highest correlation between stand volume and spectral reflectance among the VNIR wavelength. The spectral reflectance band 1, 2 (visible wavelength) and stand age have high correlation compared to other bands. The correlation coefficients between forest volume and vegetation indices have low relationship. This result indicates that the reflectance of blue band may be important factor to improve the potential of optical remote sensing data to estimate forest volume and age.

  • The necessity of universal design for forestry is increasing. Although several studies applied universal design in forest site, they had been only concentrated on the barrier-free design for the limited activities rather than overall utilization for considering all visitors from the disabled, the elderly and the infirm to the baby and child. The purpose of this study is to find out the principle of the universal design within forest welfare service facilities by analysing how socially disadvantaged people perceive overall usage of natural recreation forest area. This study figures out the main principles of universal design in forest welfare through analyzing usage of children and disabilities in Yumyeongsan natural recreation forest where is one of the popular type of forest welfare area. By doing focus interviews targeted on children and disabilities, the results are analyzed through semantic network analysis, objectively. The result proves that universal design in forest welfare area contains four principles; convenience, safety, diversity and amenity. Also it confirmed that disabilities need better internal space facilities and priority care. Through those characters of universal design, forest area will be able to cover more various type of users as forest welfare area.

산림토양의 수원함양기능 잠재력 평가를 위한 주요 인자별 토양 조공극률 분석 (Analysis of soil coarse pore fraction by major factors for evaluation of water conservation function potential in forest soil)

  • As the water shortage has become a noticeable issue due to climate change, forests play an importance role as the provider of water supply service. There is, however, little information about the relationships between the factors used in the estimation of water supply service and coarse pore fraction of forest soil which determines the potential of water supply. To find out whether there would be an amelioration in the scoring system of water supply service estimation, we examined all factors except meteorological one and additionally, analyzed 4 extra factors that might be related with coarse pore fraction of soil. A total of 2,214 soil samples were collected throughout South Korea to measure coarse pore fractions from 2015 to 2020. First, the result of average coarse pore fraction of all samples showed 32.98±6.59% which was consistent with previous studies. And the results of non-parametric analysis of variance indicated that only two of eleven factors that was used in the scoring system matched the results of coarse pore fraction of forest soils. Tree canopy coverage showed no difference among categories, and slope also showed no significance at level of 0.05 in the linear regression analysis. Additionally, the applicability of 4 extra factors were confirmed, as the result of coarse pore fractions of soil samples were different for various categories of each factor. Therefore, the scoring system of water supply service of forest should be revised to improve accuracy.

Application and evaluation of machine-learning model for fire accelerant classification from GC-MS data of fire residue

  • Detection of fire accelerants from fire residues is critical to determine whether the case was arson or accidental fire. However, to develop a standardized model for determining the presence or absence of fire accelerants was not easy because of high temperature which cause disappearance or combustion of components of fire accelerants. In this study, logistic regression, random forest, and support vector machine models were trained and evaluated from a total of 728 GC-MS analysis data obtained from actual fire residues. Mean classification accuracies of the three models were 63 %, 81 %, and 84 %, respectively, and in particular, mean AU-PR values of the three models were evaluated as 0.68, 0.86, and 0.86, respectively, showing fine performances of random forest and support vector machine models.
