Leaf water content is one of important indicators that shows states of vegetation. It is important to monitor vegetation water content using remote sensing for forest management. In this study, we investigated the degree of water stress in Korean peninsula with Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) to study the water content of vegetation canopy. We calculated the NDWI using SPOT/VEGETATION S10 channel data over forest from 1999 to 2013. We calculated Simple Moving Average (SMA) to remove temporal noises of NDWI in time series, and used standardized anomaly to investigate temporal changes. We classified the NDWI anomalies into three scales (low, moderate, and high) in order to monitor intuitively. We also investigated suitability of the NDWI as an evaluation criterion about water stress of vegetation canopy by comparing and verifying forest fires damaged area over 150 ha. Consequently, huge forest fire occurred 24 times during the study period. Also, negative anomalies appeared in every forest fire location and their neighboring areas. In particular, we found huge forest fires where NDWI anomalies were in 'high' scale.
To achieve the forest fire management goals such as early detection and quick suppression, fire resources should be allocated at high probability area where forest fires occur. The objective of this study was to develop and validate models to estimate spatially distributed probabilities of occurrence of forest fire. The models were builded by exploring relationships between fire ignition location and forest, terrain and anthropogenic factors using logistic regression. Distance to forest, cemetery, fire history, forest type, elevation, slope were chosen as the significant factors to the model. The model constructed had a good fit and classification accuracy of the model was 63%. This model and map can support the allocation optimization of forest fire resources and increase effectiveness in fire prevention and planning.
In this study, attack process and aerial control line construction type which were considered forest fire type and a case of operations were suggested using the experience of aerial fire attack of all type of forest fires. As the spread rate of forest fire is effected by terrain, slope, wind speed, forest species and etc., we needed to analyze spreading direction, behavior type and intensity before heli-team constructed a aerial control line. Especially, It is important to consider safety of attack team as a their views were obstructed. In this study, we suggested a 13 methods from type A to type M about attack and construction of aerial indirect control line.

This research deals with the combustion experiment of pine trees, which are the most representative species in Korea. Experimental data are compared with theoretical ones using Fire Simulation Program(FDS). It is considered that horizontal/vertical temperature distribution and radiant heat influence on adjacent areas in fire scenes. The linear function for separation distance to temperature was drawn by applying Stefan-Boltzmann's law; $y=112.13133{\times}({\sigma}T^4)^{-0.52916}$ for calculating the separation distance. In combustion experiment, the radiant heat came to $1.4{\sim}1.5kW/m^2$ in case of the separation distance by one meter. The numerical values mean that human body show the critical level of pain after one minute without a protective equipment.

Forest Fire can cause a serious damage to overhead conductors. Therefore, the detailed investigation for the changes of mechanical and electrical properties of damaged conductors should be carried out to understand the effect of forest fires on conductors. This is very important to maintain transmission line safely. Specimenes for this study were Al conductores of ACSR $410mm^2$, ACSR 480 R and ACSR $240mm^2$. This paper describes the changes of mechanical and electrical properties of same flame exposed Al conductor. The detailed will be given in the text.

All around tile world there has been great human and economical damage continuously by disasters like the earthquakes and storms(Tsunami) in eastern asia which recently occurred, and like the New Orleams hurricane in USA. The situation is our countries damage from natural disasters due to heavy snow, storms, forest fires have been increasing In this research we obtained GSIS data of the 05' Yang-yang forest fire disaster area using multi-sensors like airborne laser data, GPS/INS, aerial photograph surveying. In result we produced digital topographical maps, digital elevation models, digital external models, digital images, infrared images. By, analyzing and comparing with past aerial photography we obtained the exact damage area, amount of damage, estimated tile areas where a landslide might occur, and we analyzed vegetations amount of damage and possibility of recovery.
This manuscript illustrates the comparative study between ARIMA and Exponential Smoothing modeling to develop forest fire forecasting system using different weather parameters. In this paper, authors have developed the most suitable and closest forecasting models like ARIMA and Exponential Smoothing techniques using different weather parameters. Authors have considered the extremes of the Wind speed, Radiation, Maximum Temperature and Deviation Temperature of the Summer Season form March to June month for the Ranchi Region in Jharkhand. The data is taken by own resource with the help of Automatic Weather Station. This paper consists a deep study of the effect of extreme values of the different parameters on the weather fluctuations which creates forest fires in the region. In this paper, the numerical illustration has been incorporated to support the present study. Comparative study of different suitable models also incorporated and best fitted model has been tested for these parameters.

The authors have published several technical reports on the deterioration of conductor due to forest fire in series so far. This is because even we have been experiencing hundreds of forest fires every year, no systematic research on conductor which is very vulnerable to fire have been fulfilled. This paper describes the sag-tension behavior of conductor under loading current normally when only partial area of a long conductor is exposed to fire. Temperaures of Overhead Conductor were different with measurement position. When the partial area of conductor was heated up to $500^{\circ}C$, 20 % of permanent tension loss was observed. This results in the increase of sag of 1.5 m when span is 300 m. The other results will be presented in the text.
Enhancement of aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and surface aerosol mass concentration in Korea for an active forest fire episode in Northeast Asia were estimated by Community Multi-scale Air Quality (CMAQ) model. MODIS/TERRA remote detects of fires in Northeast Asia for May 2003 gave a constraint for estimation of wildfire emissions with an NDVI distribution for recent five years. The simulated wildfire plumes and enhancement of AOT were evaluated and well resolved by comparing multiple satellite observations such as MODIS, TOMS, and others. Scatter plots of observed daily mean aerosol extinction coefficient versus $PM_{10}$ concentration in ground level in Korea showed distinctively different trends based on the ambient relative humidity.
Recent global warming and anthropogenic activities have caused more frequent and massive wildfires with longer durations and more significant damages. MODIS has been monitoring global wildfires for almost 20 years, and GK2A and Himawari-8 are observing the wildfires in East Asia 144 times a day. However, the spatial resolution of 1 to 2 km is not sufficient for the detection of small and medium-size active fires, and therefore the studies on the active fire detection using high-resolution images are essential. However, there is no official product for the high-resolution active fire detection. Hence, we implemented the active fire detection algorithm of Landsat 8 and carried out a high-resolution-based detection of active fires in Australia in 2019, followed by the comparisons with the products of Himawari-8 and MODIS. Regarding the intense fires, the three satellites showed similar results, whereas the weak igniting and extinguishing fires or the fires in narrow areas were detected by only Landsat 8 with a 30m resolution. Small-sized fires, which are the majority in Korea, can be detected by the high-resolution satellites such as Landsat 8, Sentinel-2, Kompsat-3A, and the forthcoming Kompsat-7. Also, a comprehensive analysis together with the geostationary satellites in East Asia such as GK2A, Himawari-8, and Fengyun-3 will help the interoperability and the improvement of spatial and temporal resolutions.
