  • One of the critical issues in the management of manufacturing companies is the efficient process of planning and operating service resources such as human, parts, and facilities, and it begins with the accurate service demand forecasting. In this research, service and sales data from the LCD monitor manufacturer is considered for an empirical study on Product Life Cycle (PLC) based service demand forecasting. The proposed PLC forecasting approach consists of four steps : understanding the basic statistics of data, clustering models using a self-organizing map, developing respective forecasting models for each segment, comparing the accuracy performance. Empirical experiments show that the PLC approach outperformed the traditional approaches in terms of root mean square error and mean absolute percentage error.

  • Accurate prediction of wind speed and power is vital for enhancing the efficiency of wind energy systems. Numerous solutions have been implemented to date, demonstrating their potential to improve forecasting. Among these, deep learning is perceived as a revolutionary approach in the field. However, despite their effectiveness, the noise present in the collected data remains a significant challenge. This noise has the potential to diminish the performance of these algorithms, leading to inaccurate predictions. In response to this, this study explores a novel feature engineering approach. This approach involves altering the data input shape in both Convolutional Neural Network-Long Short-Term Memory (CNN-LSTM) and Autoregressive models for various forecasting horizons. The results reveal substantial enhancements in model resilience against noise resulting from step increases in data. The approach could achieve an impressive 83% accuracy in predicting unseen data up to the 24th steps. Furthermore, this method consistently provides high accuracy for short, mid, and long-term forecasts, outperforming the performance of individual models. These findings pave the way for further research on noise reduction strategies at different forecasting horizons through shape-wise feature engineering.

  • This study was carried out to develop the stream water quality model for the intaking station of Kongju waterworks in the Keum River system. The monthly water quality(total nitrogen and total phosphorus) with periodicity and trend were forecasted by multiplicative ARIU models and then the applicability of the models was tested based on 7 years of the historical monthly water quality data at Kongju intaking strate. The parameter estimation was made with the monthly observed data. The last one year data was used to compare the forecasted water Quality by ARU model with the observed one. The models are ARIMA(2,0,0)$\times$(0,1,1)l2 for total nitrogen, ARIMA(0,1,1)x(0,1,1)l2 for total phosphorus. The forecasting results showed a good agreement with the observed data. It is implying the applicability of multiplicative ARIMA model for forecasting monthly water quality at the Kongju site.

  • In this paper, we developed the fuzzy group method data handling-type (GMDH) Model and applied it to demand forecasting of educational expenses. At present, GMDH family of modeling algorithms discovers the structure of empirical models and it gives only the way to get the most accurate identification and demand forecasts in case of noised and short input sampling. In distinction to fuzzy system, the results are explicit mathematical models, obtained in a relative short time. In this paper, an adaptive learning network is proposed as a kind of fuzzy GMDH. The proposed method can be reinterpreted as a multi-stage fuzzy decision rule which is called as the fuzzy GMDH. The fuzzy GMDH-type networks have several advantages compared with conventional multi-layered GMDH models. Therefore, many types of nonlinear systems can be automatically modeled by using the fuzzy GMDH. A computer program is developed and successful applications are shown in the field of demand forecasting problem of educational expenses with the number of factors considered.

  • An artificial neural network model was developed to analyze and forecast real time river runoff from the Naju watershed, in Korea. Model forecasts are very accurate (i.e., relative error is less than 3% and $R^2$ is great than 0.99) for calibration data sets. Increasing the time horizon for validation data sets, thus making the model suitable for flood forecasting, decreases the accuracy of the model. The resulting optimal EBPN models for forecasting real time runoff consists of ten rainfall and four and ten runoff data (ANN0410 and ANN1010 models). Performances of the ANN0410 and ANN1010 models remain satisfactory up to 6 hours (i.e., $R^2$ is great than 0.92).

  • This paper studies the analysis of multivariate nonstationary time series with seasonality. Three types of multivariate time series models are considered: seasonal cointegration model, nonseasonal cointegration model with seasonal dummies, and vector autoregressive model in seasonal differences that are compared for forecasting performances using Korean macro-economic time series data. The cointegration models produce smaller forecast errors in short horizons; however, when longer forecasting periods are considered the vector autoregressive model appears preferable.

  • Over the last few decades, ensemble forecasts based on global climate models have become an important part of climate forecast due to the ability to reduce uncertainty in prediction. Moreover in ensemble forecast, assessing the prediction uncertainty is as important as estimating the optimal weights, and this is achieved through a probabilistic forecast which is based on the predictive distribution of future climate. The Bayesian model averaging has received much attention as a tool of probabilistic forecasting due to its simplicity and superior prediction. In this paper, we propose a new Bayesian model averaging method for probabilistic ensemble forecasting. The proposed method combines a deterministic ensemble forecast based on a multivariate regression approach with Bayesian model averaging. We demonstrate that the proposed method is better in prediction than the standard Bayesian model averaging approach by analyzing monthly average precipitations and temperatures for ten cities in Korea.

  • This paper is to validate the proposed models for the real-time forecasting for the Keum river estuary dam such as tidal-level forecasting model, one-dimensional unsteady flood routing model, and Kalman filter models. The tidal-level forecasting model was based on semi-range and phase lag of four tidal constituents. The dynamic wave routing model was based on an implicit finite difference solution of the complete one-dimensional St. Venant equations of unsteady flow. The Kalman filter model was composed of a processing equation and adaptive filtering algorithm. The processng equations are second ordpr autoregressive model and autoregressive moving average model. Simulated results of the models were compared with field data and were reviewed.

  • The accurate forecasting of insurance claims is a critical component for insurers' risk management decisions. Hierarchical Bayesian parametric (BP) models can be used for health insurance claims forecasting, but they are unsatisfactory to describe the claims distribution. Therefore, Bayesian nonparametric (BNP) models can be a more suitable alternative to deal with the complex characteristics of the health insurance claims distribution, including heavy tails, skewness, and multimodality. In this study, we apply both a BP model and a BNP model to predict group health claims using simulated and real-world data for a private life insurer in Indonesia. The findings show that the BNP model outperforms the BP model in terms of claims prediction accuracy. Furthermore, our analysis highlights the flexibility and robustness of BNP models in handling diverse data structures in health insurance claims.

  • Due to the uncertainty of weather, it is difficult to construct an accurate forecasting model for daily PV power generation. It is very important work to know PV power in next day to manage power system. In this paper, correlation analysis between weather and power generation was carried out and daily PV power forecasting models based on Extreme Learning Machine(ELM) was presented. Performance of district ELM model was compared with single ELM model. The proposed method has been tested using actual data set measured in 2014.
