  • The purpose of this study is to propose new hysteretic characteristics of medium- to low-rise RC structures controlled by both shear and flexure. Through previous study, the dual lateral force-resisting system composed of shear and flexural failure members has a new failure mechanism that cooperates to enhance the flexural capacity of the flexural failure member even after the failure of the shear member, and the existing theoretical equation significantly underestimates the ultimate strength. In this study, the residual lateral strength mechanism of the dual lateral force-resisting system was analyzed, and, as a result, an equation for estimating the residual flexural strength of each shear-failure member was proposed. The residual flexural strength of each shear-failure member was verified in comparison with the structural testing results obtained in previous study, and the proposed residual flexural strength equation for shear-failure members was tested for reliability using FEA, and its applicable range was also determined. In addition, restoring-force characteristics for evaluating the seismic performance of the dual lateral force-resisting system (nonlinear dynamic analysis), reflecting the proposed residual flexural strength equation, were proposed. Finally, the validity of the restoring-force characteristics of RC buildings equipped with the dual lateral force-resisting system proposed in the present study was verified by performing pseudo-dynamic testing and nonlinear dynamic analysis based on the proposed restoring-force characteristics. Based on this comparative analysis, the applicability of the proposed restoring-force characteristics was verified.

  • In this paper, the effect of bolt clamping force and form accuray of contact surface between mirror and mount on mirror surface was studied. Normally, mirror used in reflecting optical system was assembled with mount by bolts or adhesive. In this case, the tension caused by bolt clamping force or adhesive force may distort the mirror surface. Also, form accuracy error of the contact surface have a negative impact on wrenched mirror surface which assembled by bolts or adhesive. In this study, stress and distorted displacements on mirror surface were analyzed according to the different contact surface form accuracies and bolt clamping forces by using the finite element analysis method.

  • This study aims to establish an effective methodology for the detection of instant damages occurred in cable-stayed bridges with the measurements of cable vibration and structural temperatures. A transfer coefficient for the daily temperature variation and another for the long-term temperature variation are firstly determined to eliminate the environmental temperature effects from the cable force variation. Several thresholds corresponding to different levels of exceedance probability are then obtained to decide four upper criteria and four lower criteria for damage detection. With these criteria, the monitoring data for three stay cables of Ai-Lan Bridge are analyzed and compared to verify the proposed damage detection methodology. The simulated results to consider various damage scenarios unambiguously indicate that the damages with cable force changes larger than ${\pm}1%$ can be confidently detected. As for the required time to detect damage, it is found that the cases with ${\pm}2%$ of cable force change can be discovered in no more than 6 hours and those with ${\pm}1.5%$ of cable force change can be identified in at most 9 hours. This methodology is also investigated for more lightly monitored cases where only the air temperature measurement is available. Under such circumstances, the damages with cable force changes larger than ${\pm}1.5%$ can be detected within 12 hours. Even though not exhaustively reflecting the environmental temperature effects on the cable force variation, both the effective temperature and the air temperature can be considered as valid indices to eliminate these effects at high and low monitoring costs.

  • In many cases, tasks are unpredictable and therefore not doable by special-purpose or pro-programble robots. So master/slave type robot hands which combine human perceptions with conventional robot hands are required as robot end effector. These also can be applied to hazardous worksites such as outer space, deep sea and nuclear power plant. In this study, master/slave type robot fingers with 3 joints each are designed and constructed. To control force accurately, TDT(tension difference type) torque sensors are constructed and attached toeachjoints of slave finger and new force reflecting control algorithm is suggested. Finally, experimental results show that the new control algorithm can be successfully applied.

  • The companion paper presents an analytical model to predict behaviors of PSC-Beam bridges according to continuity of spans. This paper aims at providing several examples of its application to PSC-Beam bridge. In this regard, many uncertainties affecting to the continuity of spans (such as the ultimate shrinkage strain of slab and girders, the prestressing creep of girders, and the time adopting prestressing force) are analysis in detail. Moreover, to increase the serviceability and to remove th inherent structural defects including the cracking at interior supports, a necessity for the parametric studies of PSC-Beam bridges reflecting the construction sequence is emphasized.

  • Master and slave of teleoperation control system through internet or long distance cable must keep stable. If one part becomes unstable or time delay happens in network, the all system can become unstable. Usually stability of teleoperation control system can distinguish by passivity. In this paper, we implemented bilateral teleopcration control system that load passivity controller to keep stability of system. Composed by manipulator that trillion this sricks and horizontal manufacturing that have force reflecting function are available and embodied so that control through wireless LAN may be available. And distinguished stability through an experiment and manufacturing performance.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the association of military looks with fascist aesthetics and to infer various aesthetic values of fascism expressed in military looks. The research method is documentary studies through the literature and academic papers, and examined masters' and doctors' theses, domestic and overseas books and fashion magazines, photographs and materials collected from the Internet. The facism expressed in military looks is as follows: First, nationalism, reflecting the current ideology of rebellion, appeals to the original national sentiment of the masses. Second, temptation implies that fascism tempts the mass using the nature of charisma rather than by force and, by doing so, accumulates mighty power without military force. Third, mythology is utilizing images and symbols of great appeal to people for absolute power beyond the concept of time. In order to express power for the effusion of emotional energy through the vision for realities and the magical power of images. Fourth, barbarism is always harbored in the conflict and confrontation of interests among ideas, economies, religions and classes on the other side of contemporary civilized society.

  • A new 6-DOF parallel haptic device is proposed. Many existing haptic devices require large power due to having floating actuator and also have small workspaces. The proposed new mechanism can generate 6-DOF reflecting force. This device is relatively light by employing non-floating actuators and has large workspace. Kinematic analysis and kinematic optimal design is performed for this mechanism. Dexterous workspace, global isotropic index, and global maximum force transmission ratio are considered as kinematic design indices. To deal with such multi-criteria optimization problem. composite design index is employed. For the given operational specifications, actuator sizing for this mechanism is also carried out.

  • In the established virtual-reality system, although it is possible to transact a faculty of sensation and graphic in a single PC, virtual object forcibly treated with rigid body for the reason of the huge amount of calculation, and the number of polygon is restricted. Furthermore, there is some difficulty in the financial aspect and a program field, because the existing virtual-reality system needs at least two workstations or super computers. In this study, the new force-reflecting algorithm called as "Proxy" and a finite element method of Hyperion are applied to this system in order to transact in real-time. Consequently, though the number of polygon, which brings about an obstacle is increased in the real-time graphic transaction, this system makes it possible to transact in the real-time, not being influenced by the size of the virtual object.
