  • Floor coverings and Mats are for children are economical and has excellent workability, as well as they can reduce floor impact noise effective. "When these floorings contact to impact source, they are deformed and change impact force characteristics that strikes floor structure. It is important to measure the impact force spectrum of floorings in order to evaluate reduction of floor impact noise for floorings. In experimental test of floor impact noise and impact force for 14 PVC vinyl floor coverings and 16 mats for children, we confirmed that the impact force spectrum directly related to the floor impact noise spectrum.

  • In this work, a new type of MR damper with additional flow path in piston is proposed and damping force characteristics are numerically evaluated. Flow-mode type MR damper is considered and mathematical model is established based on Bingham rheological model of MR fluid to obtain accurate prediction of damping force characteristics. Damping force of the proposed MR damper are calculated with respect to piston velocity and input current. In addition, investigation on damping force characteristics is carried out according to number of additional flow path and excellence of the proposed MR damper is demonstrated.

  • In this paper, the purpose is to investigate the stability and variation of natural frequency of a Timoshenko cantilever beam subjected to follower force and tip mass. In addition, an analysis of the flutter instability(flutter critical follower force) of a cantilever beam as slenderness ratio is investigated. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam subjected to an end tangential follower force is derived via Hamilton;s principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one fourth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. Finally, the influence of the slenderness ratio and tip mass on the critical follower force and the natural frequency of a Timoshenko beam are investigated.

  • In this paper, active control of vibrational intensity at a reference point in an infinite, elastic plate was discussed. The plate is excised harmonically by a vibrating source, which has a vertical point force. The optimal condition of controller was investigated to minimize the vibrational intensity being transmitted from the vibrating source to a reference point. Hence the method of feedforward control was employed for the control strategy and then the cost function was evaluated to find the optimal control force. Three types of control force (Vertical force, Moment, and Coupling force (a set of vertical force and moment) ) and controller's positions were examined to define the optimal condition of the controller. The vibrational intensity at a reference point was found to be reduced down to a zero level, compared with the uncontrolled case. Especially maximum reduction of vibrational intensity was achieved when the controller was collinearly positioned between a vibrating source and a reference point.

  • A modeling of machined geometry and cutting force was proposed for the case of round shape machining, and the effects of internally machined profile are analyzed and its realiability was verified by the experiments of roundness tester, especially in boring operation in lathe. Also, harmonic cutting force model was proposed with the parameter of specific cutting force, chip width and chip thickness, and in this study, we can see that bored workpiece profile was also mapped into cutting force signal with this model. In general, we can calculated the theoretical lobe profile with arbitrary multilobe. But in real experiments, the most frequently measured numbers are 3 and 5 lobe profile in experiments. With this results, we can predict that these results may be applied to round shape machining such as drilling, boring, ball screw and internal grinding operation with the same method.

  • A piezoelectric ring type plate, which vibrates in flexural vibration mode, is used for the stator of ultrasonic motor. To design the stator adequately, the force factor of the stator should be estimated in advance. The theoretically calculated force factors for the flexural vibration mode are compared with the measured ones to obtain good agreement. In order to study how to control the force factor, the relation between the shape of the stator and force factor is also considered.

  • The equations of motion of the structure, which is a small scale cantilever beam considering electrostatic force, squeeze film damping and van der Waals force are obtained employing Galerkin's method based on Euler beam theory. The influence of each force is investigated fur changing the size of a small scale cantilever beam which assumed uniform shape. Also the forces which are affected by the required size of a small scale cantilever beam for manufacturing are forecasted.

  • The paper presents the dynamic stability of a flexible shoe in drum brake systems subjected to a frictional force. The frictional force between the drum and the shoe is assumed as a distributed frictional force, while the shute is modeled as an elastic beam supported by two translational springs at both ends and elastic foundations. Governing equations of motion are derived by energy expressions, and their numerical results are obtained by employing the finite element method. The critical distributed frictional force and the instability regions are demonstrated by changing the stiffness of two translational springs and elastic foundation parameters. It is also shown that the beam loses its stability by flutter and divergence depending on the stiffness of elastic supports and elastic foundation parameters. Time responses of beams corresponding to their instability types are also demonstrated.

  • The design and test of an magnetostrictive linear motor(MLM) that operates based on self-moving cell concept is presented. The moving cell is composed of Terfenol-D linear actuator and a ring structure, and a cell train is constructed by connecting two cells in series. Since this motor uses the stroke of Terfenol-D actuators and friction force of the cells, it can essentially produce long stroke and large force. The overall performance of the MLM was measured in terms of speed and force. The pushing force is directly related with the friction force. This work is a proof-of-concept stage and investigation is necessary for realistic application.

  • In this paper, the purpose is to investigate the stability of cracked Timoshenko cantilever beams subjected to subtangential follower force. In addition, an analysis of the instability(critical follower force of flutter and divergence) of a cracked beam as slenderness ratio and subtangential coefficient is investigated. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam subjected to an end tangential follower force is derived via Hamilton's principle. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. The results of this study will contribute to the safety test and stability estimation of structures of a cracked beam subjected to subtangential follower force.
