The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary behavior of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus and to improve their quality of life through medical nutrition therapy. The subjects were 38 persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus visiting a public health center to participate in a dietary education program from Jun, 2003 to Nov. 2003 in Daegu, Korea. The interviews were tape-recorded and analyzed attitude, knowledge, and awareness of patients by focus group interview. Most of the patients were mainly dependent on drug therapy and had little experience of diet education. Barriers to dietary practice adherences were limitations in food selection, lack of will and feel of burden. Barriers to follow guidelines were lack of self-control, confliction with food habits of their family, accessibility, economical problems, fear for the change after dietary practice, food difficulties in meal distribution and difficulties for eating out. After 4 weeks of intensive nutrition education, fasting blood sugar levels were decreased and postprandial and waist circumference were significantly decreased in all patients and 26.9% of patients were under decreased oral hypoglycemic agent dosage due to improved blood sugar level. dietary knowledge of subjects were greatly improved in such items as dietary intake, saturated fat, HbA1C, ideal body weight, and waist circumference.

This paper aims to presents a systematic procedure for the development of construction technology roadmap, which can consider the offshore wind farm on port. Then the weight among the large/medium/small classified construction technology has identified through the AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process) approach using FGI(Focus Group Interview) and questionnaire study. Based on the priority for classified construction technology a construction technology roadmap for port offshore wind farm was also developed. The technology roadmap suggests the time frame(20 years, from 2016 to 2036) to complete R&D work for the classified construction technology of port offshore wind farm. Such construction technology roadmap can be utilized as a milestone in setting up the R&D strategy in the green port construction industry.

Purpose: This study was a qualitative research using focus group interviews to collect data on the health care providers' perceptions of physical function in older adults with arthroplasty from hip fracture. Methods: A total of 12 subjects participated in this study. In order to conduct focus group interviews, structured manuscript, field notes, visual recording, and debriefing notes were referred and thematic analysis was used in analysis phase. Results: The six themes were raised: 'burdensome client', 'health care providers' perception of functional decline in older adults after surgery', 'health care providers' perception of caregiver', 'medical environment perceived as affecting physical function', 'crucial components perceived as encouraging functional restoration', and 'difficulty of pain management' with 18 subthemes. Conclusion: Healthcare providers perceived functional decline of elderly after arthroplasty and identified points facilitating or disturbing physical function Moreover, various perspectives on pain management related to physical function were represented.

Purpose: This study explores the moral distress that nursing students experience during their clinical practice in Korea. Methods: Data were collected using focus group interviews, and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Participants were recruited from three nursing schools in three different cities; each focus group interview lasted between one to two hours. Results: Twenty-two nursing students with more than one year of clinical practice experience participated. Three categories and ten themes were extracted. The following situational categories: "unprotected patients' right and dignity," "clinical settings in which standards of care are not upheld," "disrespectful hospital culture," and "inconsistent and unsystematic clinical education" caused moral distress. Types of responses to moral distress included: "shock and confusion over the gap between reality and moral standards," "powerlessness when cannot advocate patients," "fear and doubts about nursing career," and "moral desensitization and disappointment in oneself." "Expressions of moral distress and the need for advice" and "a search for meaning and hope" were identified as coping strategies. Conclusion: These results demonstrate the need for systematic clinical practicum and education programs to minimize moral distress. These programs may offer opportunities for students to turn moral distress into opportunities for learning and growth in the future.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe and understand elementary school health teachers' role perception in their own perspectives. Methods: Data were collected from three focus groups composed of five participants for each group. Each focus group had an interview for two and a half hours on the average. The main question was "What is your perception on the roles of health teachers in elementary schools?" Qualitative data from transcribed notes and field notes were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Five main roles were identified from the participants. The participants perceived themselves as 'an expert of health education in school and community', 'a health service provider for school members', 'a health guardian for school members, the coordinator of healthcare related works in school, and the leader of school health. Conclusion: The participants have multiple role identities, which are very important for health management of school members. And the roles such as an expert of health education and a leader for school health are recently emphasized. The findings of this study can provide useful information to design orientation programs for newly appointed health teachers and continuing education programs for enhancing role performance of health teachers in elementary schools.

As smartphones permeate the consumer lifestyle, branded application and mobile shopping have also received increased attention as an important marketing channel. This study identifies the general information about the use of smartphones, attitudes toward fashion applications, and mobile shopping intentions for smartphone users. Focus group interviews were conducted and 22 interviewees participated. The age of the participants ranged from 21 to 45 years old (55% were females). When examining the motivation to adopt a smartphone, respondents presented the comparable characteristics of early adopters and late adopters according to the time of adoption. Most respondents over the age of 30 showed some troubles to use a smartphone; however, participants in their 20s tended to enjoy exploring the new technology. More than half of respondents were aware of fashion applications, but were dissatisfied with fashion apps and used them infrequently. Respondents pointed out that fashion related apps were not too practical because they were not updated regularly, provided only limited information, and focused on brand promotions. In order to increase the intention to adopt mobile shopping, the price and payment security system needs to be considered. This was an exploratory study to identify the possibility of fashion branded apps as a major distribution channel. The findings of this study provide fundamental information to formulate marketing strategies for fashion businesses that have developed fashion apps.

The object of this study is to provide easily-understandable mathematics class to highschool students, who usually take no interest in mathematics, by apply teaching strategy based on storytelling to real lessons. The approaching methods for the mathematics education are emphasizing the mathematical education during making storytelling-studying plans, inducing the interest of the students by applying the mathematical situations in the story. The effects of the storytelling such as induction of the interest, persistency, perception of the practicality, smooth communication between teachers and students coincides with the way national mathematical education orients. This study contains the definition of the storytelling based on education, and applicability to the students, and application to the real lessons, and verification of the effects by focus-group interview with the students and observing teachers. I made the lesson plan based on storytelling for achievements to the object of the highschool mathematical study, and searched the best way to apply the lesson plan to the real lessons. I studied designing lesson strategy based on dissertations and books and reports directly related this study, and did focus-group interview to find advantages and disadvantages of the strategy. And finally I could make the well-applicable lesson plan.

The objective of this research was to determine the current consumer interest toward Korean Kimchi and identify the preferred sensory characteristics of Kimchi using qualitative consumer studies on Chinese consumers. Five different sessions of focus group interview (FGI) were conducted (n=39). The FGI session was designed to determine 1) current knowledge and interest as well as usage level of Korean-style Kimchi, 2) interests toward different Korean Kimchi based on appearance and tasting evaluation. Based on the results, radish was the most accepted ingredient for Kimchi among Chinese consumers, as it resembles the sensory characteristics of Chinese-style Kimchi. The sensory characteristics driving consumer preferences towards radish-based Kimchi included crunchy texture, and just-about-right sweet and spicy flavor. Thinly sliced radish was the most accepted shape of radish-based Kimchi. The current study provides practical information for product development of Kimchi targeted for Chinese.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the relationship between the focal firm's interdepartmental cooperation and new product development (NPD) performance with focus on the moderating effect of environmental uncertainty. The basic hypothesized model is that there are positively associated relationships. Methods: The proposed research model was tested using structural equation modeling with 601 responses from multi-functional and multiple respondents in Korean manufacturing firms. Multi-group SEM analyses were conducted to explore the degree to which the hypothesized model was equivalent for different levels of environmental uncertainty. Results: Interdepartmental cooperation between R&D and production is positively associated with NPD performance under both higher and lower environmental uncertainties, while one between R&D and marketing is positively associated under only higher environmental uncertainty. Conclusion: This paper determined that NPD performance is positively correlated with R&D-production cooperation in a focal firm, and the relationship between R&D-marketing cooperation and NPD performance is positively moderated by level of environmental uncertainty. Consequently, this study suggests that it is always important for firms to put much effort on R&D-production cooperation for a better NPD performance, while R&D-marketing cooperation should be enhanced especially under higher environmental uncertainty than lower.

The aim of this study was to suggest an improvement plan for the post-certification family friendly consulting service based on consulting reports from 2015-2016 and focus group interviews analysis. Focus group interviews were conducted with consultants with the Family Friendly Support Center and managers with family friendly certification companies. The results of this study were as follows. First, objective outcome indicators for the measurement of consulting performance should be created. Second, a checklist managers can use to choose the consulting type based on self-assessments should be developed. Third, a follow-up consulting system should be in place to complement the ABC module. Fourth, a consulting case database should be built to facilitate customized consulting by industry and size.
