This paper presents an improved single-stage ac-dc LED-drive flyback converter using the transformer-coupled lossless (TCL) snubber. The proposed converter is derived from the integration of a full-bridge diode rectifier and a conventional flyback converter with a simple TCL snubber. The TCL snubber circuit is composed of only two diodes, a capacitor, and a transformer-coupled auxiliary winding. The TCL snubber limits the surge voltage of the switch and regenerates the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer. Also, the switch of the proposed converter is turned on at a minimum voltage using a formed resonant circuit. Thus, the proposed converter achieves high efficiency. The proposed converter utilizes only one general power factor correction (PFC) control IC as its controller and performs both PFC and output power regulation, simultaneously. Therefore, the proposed converter provides a simple structure and an economic implementation and achieves a high power factor without the need for any separate PFC circuit. In this paper, the operational principle of the proposed converter is explained in detail and the design guideline of the proposed converter is briefly shown. Experimental results for a 40-W prototype are shown to validate the performance of the proposed converter.
This paper aims to develop an SMPS topology for handling a high range of input voltages based on a DC-DC flyback converter circuit. For this purpose, 2 capacitors of the same specifications were serially connected on the input terminal side, with a flyback converter of the same circuit configuration serially connected to each of them, so as to achieve high input voltage and an effect of dividing input voltage. The serially connected flyback converters have the transformer turn ratio of 1:1, so that each coil is used for the winding of a single transformer, which is a characteristic of doubly-fed configuration and enables the correction of input capacitor voltage imbalance. In addition, a pulse transformer was designed and fabricated in a way that can achieve the isolation and noise robustness of the PWM output signal of the PWM controller that applies gate voltage to individual flyback converter switches. PSIM simulation was carried out to verify such a structure and confirm its feasibility, and a 100W class stack was fabricated and used to verify the feasibility of the proposed high voltage SMPS topology.
In this paper, design and control of the novel SEPIC-Flyback converter(SF converter) is developed as a possible converter for fuel cell system. This output characteristic of SF converter is similar to Buck-Boost converter in that it can step-up or step-down the voltage. With the small signal equivalent circuit modeling of SF converter, control-to-output transfer function is obtained. SF converter couples up the inductive type converter to capacitive type converter with one transformer, which has less ripple current than its respective one does. To verify the validity of the proposed converter, 500W, 100kHz converter is designed and tested. ZVS switching and active clamping are also tested in practice.
Nowadays, more than ever before, many researchers are paying attention to raising the efficiency of a Power converter. In Flyback converter, the resistor of RCD snubber consumes the stored energy in leakage inductor. It play a role in degrading the overall system efficiency Thus, In this paper, a novel energy recovery circuit of Flyback converter is proposed to improve the efficiency. The operational principle of the proposed circuit is explained in detail. And, it is verified through the simulation results.
DC-DC converter which composed of LLC resonant converter, operated by fixed switching frequency with fixed duty cycle (50%), and flyback converter to provide constant output voltage($400V_{DC}$) with variation of input voltage($30-60V_{DC}$) is proposed in this paper. To obtain constant output voltage($400V_{DC}$), flyback converter is not operated in case of above the maximum input voltage($60V_{DC}$) and operated as the input voltage decreases to below 60VDC. Therefore, flyback converter can be designed to the 50% power rating of the maximum power in the proposed DC-DC converter. Operation modes and voltage gain characteristics were analyzed and a 360W prototype converter was tested to verify the proposed converter.
This paper presents a cell balancing method for a single switch flyback converter with a multi-winding transformer. The conventional method using a flyback converter with a multi-winding transformer is simple and easy to control, but the voltage of each secondary winding coil might be non-uniform because of the unequal effective turn-ratio. In particular, it is difficult to control the non-uniform effect using turn-ratios because secondary coil has a limited number of turns. The non-uniform secondary voltages disturb the cell balancing procedure and induce an unbalance in cell voltages. Individual cell control by adding a switch for each cell can reduce the undesirable effect. However, the circuit becomes bulky, resulting in additional loss. The proposed method here uses the conventional flyback converter with an adjustment made to the output filters of the cells, instead of the additional switch. The magnitude of voltage applied to a particular cell can be reduced or increased according to the adjusted filter and the selected switching frequency. An analysis of the conventional converter configuration and the filter design method reveals the possibility of adequate cell balancing control without any additional switch on the secondary side.
In the lighting industry, a Lighting Emitting Diode (LED) is increasingly used because of many advantages and a eco-friendly product comparing with the conventional lighting. However, the LED lighting has to include various AC/DC converters because the direct current is used for the LED lighting. Among a lot of power converters, the flyback converter is widely used for the LED lighting and includes some electrolytic capacitors for the voltage regulation. But the electrolytic capacitor has shorter lifetime than the LED element. It makes the expected life-time of the converter having the electrolytic capacitor shorter than the LED element. This paper proposes the single-stage PFC flyback converter without electrolytic capacitors. To verify the performance of the proposed converter, simulated and experimental works were carried out.

This paper analyzed PFC of active clamp ZVS flyback converter by adding two methods PFC (power Factor Correction) circuit - two-stage and single-stage. The addition of active clamp circuit also provides a mechanism for achieving ZVS of both the primary and auxiliary switches. ZVS also limits the turn off di/dt of the output rectifier, reducing rectifier-switching loss and switching noise, due to diode reverse recovery. As a result, the proposed converters have characteristics of the reduced switching noise and high efficiency in comparison to conventional flyback converter. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed converter improve the input PF of 300W ZVS flyback converter by adding single-stage, two-stage PFC circuit.
