  • In this study, the features of canine lymphoma on fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) were evaluated in three small breed dogs. In case 1, ultrasonography and CT indicated neoplastic involvement of the sternal, right axillary, submandibular, lower cervical, tracheobronchial, mesenteric, and sublumbar lymph nodes; spleen; and liver. However, intense FDG uptake on PET/CT images was detected only for the lymph nodes and spleen. No FDG uptake by the liver was detected for case 1 despite the confirmation of lymphoma by cytology. In case 2, ultrasonography and CT indicated neoplastic involvement of the axillary, mesenteric, and sublumbar lymph nodes and the spleen, while intense FDG uptake on PET/CT images was detected for the axillary and a few mesenteric lymph nodes, and the spleen. FDG uptake was additionally observed from popliteal lymph nodes, however there was no uptake by the sublumbar lymph nodes and some mesenteric lymph nodes. In case 3, neoplastic changes in the splenic, mesenteric, and sublumbar lymph nodes and spleen were suspected on ultrasonography, and lower cervical and popliteal lymph node involvements were additionally detected on PET/CT. Compared to ultrasonography, repeated PET/CT showed increased FDG uptake by the lymph nodes at an earlier stage after chemotherapy in case 3. This study illustrated the features of PET/CT in canine lymphomas and compared those to ultrasonography and CT findings. FDG uptakes were not detected from some lesions which were suspected to be neoplastic involvement in case 1 and 2. We could not clearly explain the reason of this result in the present study because cytological or histological examination was not performed for lesions that showed different results on ultrasonography, CT, and PET/CT. Further studies on the subclassification of canine lymphoma and the sensitivity and specificity of PET/CT for the detection of canine lymphoma are required. PET/CT data can provide useful information for predicting the therapeutic response at an early stage after treatment.

  • A series of samples having different $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio were prepared by treating hydrogen mordenites with boiling hydrochloric acid and with hydrofluoric acid. The acidities of these samples were measured by TPD of $NH_3$ and by pyridine adsorption using IR, and the catalytic activities and selectivities of isomerization were measured for the reaction of ortho-xylene. For the samples treated by boiling hydrochloric acid, the acidities decreased with the increasing $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio caused by the extraction of framework aluminum. The sample having the $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio or 22 showed better activity than the others. For the samples treated by hydrofluoric acid, the content of chemically binding fluorine increased with the increasing contact time of hydrofluoric acid solution. The catalytic activities decreased with the hydrofluoric acid treatment due to the decreased acid sites resulted from the extraction of aluminum and silicon as well as the hydroxyl group replacement by the fluoride ion. The slightly increasing catalytic activities, however, came from the newly created acid sites, due to the removal of surface silicon, having enhanced by the inductive effect of binding fluorin with further acid treatment.

  • In order to give hydrophobic surface properties on carbon steel, the fluorinated amorphous carbon films were prepared by using linear 2.45GHz microwave PECVD device. Two different process approaches have been tested. One is direct deposition of a-C:H:F films using admixture of $Ar/CH_4/CF_4$ working gases and the other is surface treatment using $CF_4$ plasma after deposition of a-C:H film with $Ar/CH_4$ binary gas system. $Ar/CF_4$ plasma treated surface with high $CF_4$ gas ratio shows best hydrophobicity and durability of hydrophobicity. Nanometer scale surface roughness seems one of the most important factors for hydrophobicity within our experimental conditions. The properties of a-C:H:F films and $CF_4$ plasma treated a-C:H films were investigated in terms of surface roughness, hardness, microstructure, chemical bonding, atomic bonding structure between carbon and fluorine, adhesion and water contact angle by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), nano-indentation, Raman analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

  • Ethyl methacrylate (EMA) monomer coupling onto the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film surface was attempted to enhance the interfacial adhesive force between PVDF-polyvinyl chloride (PVC) bilayer films via dielectric barrier corona discharge. The interfacial forces were quite enhanced when PVDF films were treated by corona discharge in an EMA 1% atmosphere. The contact angle of PVDF films decreased due to corona treatment. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed that the carbon and oxygen content of the PVDF film surface increased with corona discharge while the fluoride content decreased. The curve fitting of XPS $C_{1s}$ peaks revealed that the non-polar C-C bonded carbon and oxygen-bonded carbon increased gradually with corona treatment, while the fluorine-bonded carbon decreased.

  • The fluorine doped silicon oxide (SiOF) intermetal dielectric (IMD) films have been of interest due to their lower dielectric constant and compatibility with existing process tools. However instability issues related to bond and increasing dielectric constant to water absorption when the SiOF films was exposured to atmospheric ambient. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to study the effect of post oxygen plasma treatment on the resistance of moisture absorption and reliability of SiOF film. Improvement of moisture absorption resistance of SiOF film is due to the forming of thin SiO₂layer at the SiOF film surface. It is thought that the main effect of the improvement of moisture absorption resistance was densification of the top layer and reduction in the number of Si-F bonds that tend to associate with OH bonds. However, the dielectric constant was increased when plasma treatment time is above 5 min. In this study, therefore, it is thought that the proper plasma treatment time is 3 min when plasma treatment condition is 700 W of microwave power, 3 mTorr of process pressure and 300℃ of substrate temperature.

  • Purpose: Accurate assessment of the lesion after treatment of patients with bone lymphoma is difficult. In this patient who demonstrated complete remission after chemotherapy, the regions of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose $(^{18}FFDG)PET$ uptake diminished more rapidly fellowing therapy, indicating a complete response at much earlier stage than did Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or CT based findings. With the conventional methods, such as MRI and CT, It was difficult to assess whether the residual tumor tissue was viable or not. Decision to complete response is very important in patients with lymphoma to plan the further treatment. We experienced a patient with primary lymphoma of bone who revealed complete response to chemotherapy on $^{18}FFDGPET$ while CT showed persistent destructive bone lesion. Thus, $^{18}FFDGPET$ study after therapy may be superior to CT in the evaluation of response to treatment in primary lymphoma of bone.

  • The phosphogypsum (PG) is a byproduct of the phosphate fertilizers manufacture. The world production estimated to 200 million tons per year induces environmental threats and storage problems, which requires strict policies to limit pollution and encourage its valorization. This paper presents a purification process of the crude PG including treatment with a diluted sulfuric acid, floatation, filtration and washing. The purified PG is used to produce plaster. The process optimization was conducted using a full factorial design. The significant factors considered in the experimental study are temperature ($X_1$), volume of sulfuric acid solution ($X_2$) and PG quantity ($X_3$). The main effects and interaction effects of these factors on the responses of the % $P_2O_5$, % F, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) ($mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$) and pH were analyzed. The optimum conditions for $X_1$, $X_2$ and $X_3$ were found to be $60^{\circ}C$, 3 L and 1 kg, respectively and the optimized pH values was found to be 6.2. Under these conditions, 60% of $P_2O_5$, 95% of Fluorine and 98% of TOC were removed from PG. The predicted values were found approximately the same as the experimental ones. The plaster produced with purified PG was found to have similar properties to that produced from natural gypsum.

  • The surface of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was modified by fluorination and applied to conductive materials to improve the energy efficiency of a capacitive desalination (CDI) electrode. CNTs were fluorinated at room temperature with a mixed gas of fluorine and nitrogen, and activated carbon based CDI electrodes were then prepared by adding 0-0.5 wt% of untreated CNTs or fluorinated CNTs with respect to the activated carbon. Fluorinated CNTs showed improved dispersibility in the electrode and also slurry as compared to untreated CNTs, which was confirmed by the zeta potential and scanning electron microscopy. Fluorinated CNTs added electrodes showed higher desalination efficiency but lower energy consumption than those of using untreated CNTs added electrodes. This was attributed to the decrease in the resistance of CDI electrodes due to the improved dispersibility of CNTs by fluorination.

  • Thermal behavior of residue and damaged layer formed by reactive ion etching (RIE) in $CHF_3/C_2F_6$ were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and secondary ion mass spec-trometry(SIMS) techniques. Decomposition of polymer residue film begins at $200^{\circ}C$ and above $400^{\circ}C$ carbon compound as graphite mainly forms by in-situ resistive heating. It reveals that thermal decomposition of residue can be completed by rapid thermal anneal treatment above $800^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen atmosphere and out-diffusion of carbon and fluorine of damaged layer is observed.

  • A synthesis and the screening of new 2-iminothiazolines (IV) of which structures are modified based on a lead compound, thiazoline for development of new agrochemical fungicide were described. Bromination of acetoacetanilides (I) which were prepared by the reaction of diketene with anilines gave the corresponding ${\gamma}-bromoacetoactanilide\;(II)$. Treatment of II with N-phenyl-N'-methyl thiourea (III) afforded IV, structure of which was confirmed by various spectroscopic methods. Antifungal activity of the new IV was tested against six kinds of typical plant diseases (in vivo). The IV with aromatic substituents showed remarkable activity against the Pyricuraria oryzae at 250 ppm in primary screening. The candidates with control value over 90% in primary screening were selected and further tested for second screening at lower concentrations. The IV which has an electron-withdrawing substituent such as halogen, especially fluorine in aryl group showed a higher activity as compared to those with electron-donating group and meta substituent was for optimal position.
