  • The primary objective of this work is to develop methodologies for virtual model basin and to demonstrate the capabilities for generic multi-hull ship geometry. A computational fluid dynamics approach is used to simulate various model basin tests for steady resistance, maneuvering and seakeeping. For a catamaran hull configuration, the methodologies are used for solving these problems and the results are discussed. Computational results are compared with the results of a benchmarked potential flow theory method for calm water resistance.

  • This study evaluated the effects of frankfurter fat content on Listeria monocytogenes resistance to heat stress and gastric fluid, and the Caco-2 cell invasion efficiency of the pathogen. A 10-strain mixture of L. monocytogenes was inoculated on frankfurters formulated with 10%, 20%, and 30% fat content (10%: F10, 20%: F20, 30%: F30) and stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 30 d. The samples were analyzed for L. monocytogenes resistance to heat stress and a simulated gastric fluid challenge. The total bacteria and L. monocytogenes survival rates were measured on tryptic soy agar plus 0.6% yeast extract and Palcam agar, respectively. L. monocytogenes colonies inoculated on F10, F20, and F30 samples were used for a Caco-2 cell invasion assay. In general, no obvious differences were observed between the survival rates of total bacteria and L. monocytogenes grown on different fat contents under heat stress and gastric fluid challenge. However, L. monocytogenes obtained from the F30 samples had a significantly higher Caco-2 cell invasion efficiency than those in the F10 and F20 samples (p<0.05). These results indicate that although high fat content in food may not be related to L. monocytogenes resistance to heat stress and gastric fluid, it may increase the Caco-2 cell invasion efficiency of the pathogen.

  • Buckwheat is known as a health food but is one of the major food allergens triggering potentially fatal anaphylaxis in Asia, especially in Japan and Korea. This study was conducted to investigate the characteristic of enzymatic resistance of buckwheat protein and allergenic potential. Enzymatic resistance of buckwheat protein was performed with in vitro digestibility test in simulated gastric fluid (SGF), pH 1.2, using pepsin and simulated intestinal fluid (SIF) using chymotrypsin. Reactivity of buckwheat proteins to human IgE was performed using six allergic patients sensitized to buckwheat. Buckwheat's IgE levels were measured using the Phadia UniCAP-system. Buckwheat protein, 16 kDa, still remained after 30 min treatment of pepsin on SDS-PAGE. Even though 16 kDa almost disappeared after 60 min treatment, two out of the six buckwheat patients' sera showed reactivity to hydrolysate after 60 min treatment, indicating that allergenicity still remained. In simulated intestinal fluid (SIF) using chymotrypsin, buckwheat protein, 24 kDa, showed resistance to hydrolysis with chymotrypsin on SDS-PAGE, and still had allergenicity based on the result of ELISA. Our results suggest that buckwheat proteins have strong resistance to enzyme degradation. This may be attributed in part to the allergenic potential of buckwheat. Further study should be continued regarding buckwheat allergy.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to examine the fluid flow resistance in the rectangular channel with two inclined wire screen baffles. Two different types of wire screens; dutch weave and plain weave, were used as baffle devices in this experiment. Three kinds of baffles with different mesh specifications were made up of dutch type and four different kinds of baffles were made up of plain weave type. The stainless steel wire screen baffles were mounted on the bottom wall with varied angle inclination. Reynolds numbers were varied from 23,000 to 57,000. Results show that the mesh number of baffles plays an important role on friction factor behaviour. It is found that the baffle with the most number of meshes (type SA) has the highest fluid flow resistance.

  • Numerical and laboratory studies have been conducted to test the ability of Electrical Resistance Tomography-a technique used to map the electrical resistivity of the subsurface-to delineate contaminant plumes. Two-dimensional numerical models were created to investigate survey design and resolution. Optimal survey design consisted of both downhole and surface electrode sites. Resolution models revealed that while the bulk fluid flow could be outlined, small-scale fingering effects could not be delineated. Laboratory experiments were conducted in a narrow glass tank to validate theoretical models. A visual comparison of fluid flow with ERT images also showed that, while the bulk fluid flow could be seen in most instances, fine-scale effects were indeterminate.

  • In this study, we conducted resistance and propulsion performance test of ship composed of the Resistance Test, Propeller Open Water Test and Self Propulsion Test using the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics). We used commercial RANS(Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes equation) solver, as a calculating tool. The unstructured grids were used in a bow and stern of ship, having complex shape, for a convenience of generating grids, and the structured grids were adopted in a central hull and rest of hull having a relatively simple shape which is called hybrid grid method. In addition, The sliding mesh method was adopted to rotate a propeller directly in the Propeller Open Water and Self Propulsion Test. The Resistance Test and Self Propulsion Test were calculated using Volume of Fluid (VOF) model and considering a free surface. And all The three cases were applied realizable k-epsilon model as the turbulence model. The results of calculations were verified for the suitability of calculations by comparing MOERI's EFD results.

  • The present study aims to review the wave pattern resistance analysis method suggested by the International Towing Tank Conference. From the experimental database of a container carrier ship model, the wave pattern measurement and resistance test results are utilized. The wave pattern resistance at the design Froude number is obtained to be compared with the wave making resistance of experiments. Wave pattern resistance is lower than wave making resistance by 1978 ITTC and uniform regardless of transverse location of wave cut. The method is also applied to the wave height field by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses with Froude number variation. Although numerical damping suppressed waves in downstream, waves around the hull and wave pattern resistance are properly predicted.

  • Split magnetic fluid sealing is a combination of magnetic fluid rotary and plane sealing. Using the theory of equivalent magnetic circuit design as basis, the author theorized the pressure resistance performance of magnetic fluid plane sealing. To determine the pressure resistance of magnetic fluid plane sealing, the author adopted the method of finite element analysis to calculate the magnetic field intensity in the gap between plane sealing structures. The author also analyzed the effect of different sealing gaps, as well as different ratios between the sealing gap and tooth and solt width, on the sealing performance of split magnetic fluid. Results showed that the wider the sealing gap, the lower the sealing performance. Tooth width strongly affects sealing performance; the sealing performance is best when the ratio between tooth width and sealing gap is 2, whereas the sealing performance is poor when the ratio is over 8. The sealing performance is best when the ratio between the solt width and sealing gap is 4, indicating a slight effect on sealing performance when the ratio between the solt width and sealing gap is higher. Theoretical analysis and simulation results provide reference for the performance evaluation of different sealing equipment and estimation of critical pressure at interface failure.

  • This research proposed a dashpot type mount design using MR fluids, and investigated experimentally the influence of the design parameters of the dashpot MR fluid mount, which affect the damping forces of the dashpot MR fluid mount. In order to observe the influence, the dashpot MR fluid mount which have the different effective length and the core structure is manufactured. The variations of the resistance forces according to different effective lengths of the magnetic pole of MR fluid mount, along which magnetic field is defined, was investigated. It was founded that the resistance forces from the MR mount decreased with increased input frequencies, while increased with increased applied electric current intensities. Nevertheless, there is no appreciable change in the resistance forces with respect to the effective length variations of the magnetic pole of MR fluid mount.

  • Chemical sensors are used in various industrial facilities such high-risk and prevent the leakage of substances, important in life and environmental protection and the safe use of industry, used for management. In particular, high-temperature environments such as power generation equipment of the rotating part due to leakage generated by the various oil, power plants Shut Down, fire, work environment (exposure to various chemical solution and gas leak) and various water, air and soil pollution causes. Thus, over the long term through various channels such as crops and groundwater contamination caused by the slow, serious adverse effect on the ecosystem. In this paper, synthetic lube oil and high pressure hydraulic fluid leakage and immediately detect a new Printed Electronic implementation of technology-based film-type sensors, and its performance test. Thus, industrial accidents and environmental pollution and for early detection of problems, large accidents can be prevented. Experimental results of the synthetic lube oil and high pressure hydraulic fluid solution after the contact time depending on the experiment and the oil solution of the sensor material of the conductive porous PE resistance value by a chemical reaction could be confirmed that rapid increase. Also implemented in the film-type oil sensor electrical resistance change over time of the reaction rate and the synthetic lube oil is about 2 minutes or less, the high pressure hydraulic fluid is less than about 1 minute was. Therefore, more high-pressure hydraulic fluid such as a low volatility synthetic lube oils are the resistance change and the reaction rate was confirmed to be the slowest.
