Microbeam is a new avenue of radiation research especially in radiation biology and radiation protection. Selective irradiation of an ionizing particle to a targeted cell organelle may disclose such mechanisms as signal transaction among cell organelles and cell-to-cell communication in the processes toward an endpoint observed. Bystander effect, existence of which is clearly evidenced by application of the particle microbeam to biological experiments, suggests potential underestimation in the conventional risk estimation at low particle fluence rates, such as environment of space radiations in ISS (International Space Station). To promote these studies we started the construction of our microbeam facility (named as SPICE) to our HVEE Tandem accelerator (3.4 MeV proton and 5.1 MeV $^4$He$\^$2+/). For our primary goal, "irradiation of single particle to cell organelle within a position resolution of 2 micrometer in a reasonable irradiation time", special features are considered. Usage of a triplet Q magnet for focussing the beam to submicron of size is an outstanding feature compared to facilities of other institutes. Followings are other features: precise position control of cell dish holder, design of the cell dish, data acquisition of microscopic image of a cell organelle (cell nucleus) and data processing, a reliable particle detection, soft and hard wares to integrate all these related data, to control and irradiate exactly determined number of particles to a targeted spot.
In proton therapy, the Bragg peak is spread out by modulating or degrading the energy of the particles to cover a well-defined target volume at a given depth. Proton transfer plays a key role in a variety of biological, the origin of the elements, tests of the standard model along with applications in medicine, industry and chemical phenomena such as water autoionization, fast proton diffusion, acid-base neutralization. We have studied the radiolysis of various natural resources and have evaluated the antioxidant activity of radiolysis products by proton beam. The most of antioxidant activities of natural resources were decreased with increasing proton fluence. Proton beam induced antioxidant activities both in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) assay and 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzot hialozinesulfonic acid) cation radical $(ABTS^{.+})$ assay by a dose dependent fashion.

In this investigation, we prepared a 1 and 3-parallel serpentine single PEMFC, which has an active area of $100\;cm^2$ and a flow channel cross section of $1{\times}1mm$. Distribution and transport of water in a non-operating PEMFC were observed by varying flow types and the flow rates (250, 400, and 850 cc/min). This investigation was performed at the neutron imaging facility at the CO1d Neutron RAdiography facility (CONRAD), HMI, Germany of which the collimation ratio and neutron fluence rate are 250, $1{\times}10^{6}n/s/cm^2$, respectively. The neutron image was continuously recorded by a scintillator and lens-CCD coupled detector system every 10 seconds. It has been observed that although the distilled water was supplied into the cathode channel only, the neutron image showed a water movement from the cathode to the anode channel. The water at the cathode channel was completely discharged as soon as the pressurized air was supplied. But the water at the anode channel was not easily removed by the pressurized air except for the 3-parallel serpentine type with 850cc/min of air flow rate. Moreover, the water at the MEA wasn't removed for any of the cases.
AgInCd alloy is widely used as neutron absorber in nuclear reactors. However, the AgInCd control rods may fail during service due to the irradiation swelling. In the present study, a calculational method is proposed to calculate the composition change of the AgInCd absorber. Calculated results show that neutron fluence has significant impact on the chemical compositions. Ag and In contents gradually decrease while Cd and Sn conversely increases from the center to the rim of AgInCd absorber due to the depression of neutron flux. The composition change at the surface is higher almost two times than that at the center. Based on the calculated compositions, six simulated AgInCdSn alloys were prepared and examined. With the increase of Cd and Sn, the simulated AgInCdSn alloys transform from a single fcc phase into the mixed fcc and hcp phases, and finally into the single hcp phase. The atomic volume of the hcp phase is obviously larger than the fcc phase. The fcc-hcp transformation results in considerable volume swelling of the AgInCd absorber. Moreover, the lattice parameters of the fcc and hcp phases gradually increase with Cd and Sn contents, which also can induce small volume swelling.
Bragg gratings were fabricated in Ge-doped silica planar lightwave circuits (PLC) for different writing conditions to study the growth characteristics. The refractive index modulation of the gratings grew in the PLC with total fluence F according to the power law $\Delta$n=A $F^{B}$. The characteristics of the PLC gratings formed for external cavity lasers match closely to those predicted by the power law. The oscillation spectra of the FP-LD with a Bragg grating grown in the PLC waveguide were also presented.d.

Epitaxial $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ (BSTO) thin films have been grown on TiN buffered Si (001) substrates by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) method and the effects of substrate temperature and oxygen partial pressure during the deposition on their dielectric properties and crystallinity were investigated. The crystal orientation, epitaxy nature, and microstructure of oxide thin films were investigated using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Thin films were prepared with laser fluence of $4.2\;J/cm^2\;and\;3\;J/cm^2$, repetition rate of 8 Hz and 10 Hz, substrate temperatures of $700^{\circ}C$ and ranging from $350^{\circ}C\;to\;700^{\circ}C$ for TiN and oxide respectively. BSTO thin-films were grown on TiN-buffered Si substrates at various oxygen partial pressure ranging from $1{\times}10^{-4}$ torr to $1{\times}10^{-5}$ torr. The TiN buffer layer and BSTO thin films were grown with cube-on-cube epitaxial orientation relationship of $[110](001)_{BSTO}{\parallel}[110](001)_{TiN}{\parallel}[110](001)_{Si}$. The crystallinity of BSTO thin films was improved with increasing substrate temperature. C-axis lattice parameters of BSTO thin films, calculated from XRD ${\theta}-2{\theta}$ scans, decreased from 0.408 m to 0.404 nm and the dielectric constants of BSTO epitaxial thin films increased from 440 to 938 with increasing processing oxygen partial pressure.

InP(100) crystal surface was irradiated by ion beams with low energy $(180\~225\;eV)$ and high flux $(\~10^{15}/cm^2/s)$, Self-organization process induced by ion beam was investigated by examining nano structures formed during ion beam sputtering. As an ion source, an electrostatic closed electron Hall drift thruster with a broad beam size was used. While the incident angle $(\theta)$, ion flux (J), and ion fluence $(\phi)$ were changed and InP crystal was rotated, cone-like, ripple, and anistropic nanostrucuture formed on the surface were analyzed by an atomic force microscope. The wavelength of the ripple is about 40 nm smaller than ever reported values and depends on the ion flux as $\lambda{\propto}J^{-1/2}$, which is coincident with the B-H model. As the incident angle is varied, the root mean square of the surface roughness slightly increases up to the critical angle but suddenly decreases due to the decrease of sputtering yield. By the rotation of the sample, the formation of nano dots with the size of $95\~260\;nm$ is clearly observed.
Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) surface was irradiated and became superhydrophilic by low energy (180 eV) and high flux $(\~10^{15}/cm{\cdot}s)$ ion beam. As an ion source, a closed electron Hall drift thruster of $\phi=70mm$ outer channel size without grid was adopted. Ar, $O_2$ and $N_2O$ were used for source gases. When $N_2O^+$ and $O_2^+$ reactive gas ion beam were irradiated with the ion fluence of $5\times10^{15}/cm^2$, the wetting angle for deionized water was drastically dropped from $61^{\circ}\;to\;4^{\circ}\;and\;2^{\circ}$, respectively. Surface energy was also increased up to from 44 mN/m to 81 mN/m. Change of chemical component in PVDF surface was analyzed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Such a great increase of the surface energy was intimately related with the increase of hydrophilic group component in reactive ion irradiated PVDF surfaces. By using an atomic force microscopy, the root-mean-square of surface roughness of ion irradiated PVDF was not much altered compared to that of pristine PVDF.
Recently, high energy photon radiotherapy is a growing trend for increasing therapy results. Commonly, if you use high energy photons above 6~8 MeV nominal accelerator voltage, It lead the photo-nuclear reaction and the generation of photo-neutron are accompanied and these problematic factors are issued in the view of radiation protection. Therefore, in this study analyzed for dose distribution of photo-neutron in radiotherapy room based on MCNPX. As a result, absorbed dose is increased sharply from 10 MV to 12 MV. It was founded that the rapid increasement of photoneutron fluence was related to the absorbed dose at above 10 MV. Also, in case of the recommendation of ICRP 103, the outcome of an exchanged equivalent dose which based on calculated an absorbed dose, showed lower equivalent dose than ICRP 60 by reflecting the contribution of secondary photon for absorbed dose of human body in the low energy band.

To investigate the degradation of mechanical properties induced mainly by neutron irradiation, the tensile tests were conducted from room temperature to 300\\`c using the irradiated and the unirradiated Zr-2.5Nb pressure tube materials. The irradiated longitudinal and transverse specimens were collected from the coolant inlet, middle, and outlet parts of M-11 tube which had been operated in Wolsung CANDU Unit-1 and exposed to different operating temperatures and irradiation fluences. The different tensile behavior was characterized not by the fluences of irradiation but by the tensile loading direction. The transverse specimen showed the higher strength and lower elongation than those of the longitudinal one. It was believed that these phenomena resulted from the microstructure anisotropy caused by the extrusion process. The increased strength hardening and decreased elongation embrittlement of the irradiated material were compard to those of the unirradiated one. While the tensile strength of the inlet was higher than that of the outlet, the elongation of the inlet was lower than that of outlet. Considering the operation condition, it was proposed that the operating temperature could be a more effective parameter than the irradiation fluence for long-time life. Through the TEM observation, it was found that while the a-type dislocation density was increased, the c-type dislocation was not changed in the irradiated. The fact that the higher dislocation density was sequentially distributed over the inlet, the middle, and the outlet parts was consistent with the distribution of the tensile strength.
