An understanding of temporal trends of stream flows can help in the river management and the water resources planning for natural circumstances and human communities. Changes in temperature, precipitation, flow, and land use (agriculture, flood prevention activities, reservoir operation, interbasin diversion, etc.) are all eventually reflected in the flow pattern of the river. An assumption that the stationarity of the hydrologic series implying time-invariant characteristics of the time series accepted in water structure designs can no longer be valid if the flow changes as a result of the climate change or the stream flow use. Therefore, the identification and description of the characteristics of changes in hydrologic time series is a very important task in the river basin management. In this study, the statistical tests on the flow change forced by excess water diversions in the Sumjin River basin were performed by ways of single variable and time series variable comparisons. The tests showed that currently the Sumjin River basin statistically keeps its homogeneity in annual streamflow series, but the changed situation has been appeared in dry season streamflow series.
This work comes within the framework of the "Benchmark on the Aerodynamics of a Rectangular Cylinder" that investigates a rectangular cylinder of length-to-depth ratio equal to 5. The present study reports and discusses velocity fields acquired using planar Particle Image Velocitmetry for several angles of attack and Reynolds numbers. In particular, for a cylinder depth-based Reynolds number of 2 × 104 and zero incidence angle, the flow features along the lateral (parallel to the freestream) upper and lower surfaces of the cylinder are reported. Using first and second order statistics of the velocity field, the main flow features are discussed, especially the size and location of the time-averaged flow structures and the distribution of the Reynolds stresses. The variation of the flow features with the incidence is also studied considering angles of attack up to 6°. It is shown that the time-averaged flow is fully detached for incidence higher than 2°. For an angle of attack of 0°, the effects of the Reynolds number varying between 5 × 103 and 2 × 104 are investigated looking at flow statistics. It is shown that the time-averaged location of the reattachment point and the shape and position of the time-averaged main vortex are mostly constant with the Reynolds number. However, the size of the inner region located below the time-averaged shear layer and just downstream the leading edge corner appears to be strongly dependent on the Reynolds number.

This paper developed 3 flow-shop sequencing heuristic methods: modified RA method, modified RACS method and modified RAES method. These methods modified RA method, RACS method and RAES method developed by D. G. Dannenbring. These methods can easily determine desirable sequence of orders and can improve nx3 flow-shop's productivity and efficiency. The maximum flow-time criterion is selected as the evaluation criterion of flow-shop's efficiency, We evaluated these 6 heuristic methods’ performance. By the evaluation of the result, we can see that the modified methods produce a shorter maximum flow-time than the original methods.
Liquid molding processes, such as resin transfer molding, involve resin flow through a porous medium inside a mold cavity. Numerical analysis of resin flow and mold filling is a very useful means for optimization of the manufacturing process. However, the numerical analysis is quite time consuming and requires a great deal of effort, since a separate numerical calculation is needed for every set of material properties, part size and injection conditions. The efforts can be appreciably reduced if similarity solutions are used instead of repeated numerical calculations. In this study, the similarity relations for pressure, resin velocity and flow front propagation are proposed to correlate another desired case from the already obtained numerical result. In other words, the model gives a correlation of flow induced variables between two different cases. The model was verified by comparing results obtained by the similarity relation and by independent numerical simulation.
Background: Foodborne disease outbreaks from various food sources are a major health concern worldwide. Current methods for detection of foodborne pathogens are both expensive and time-consuming. Purpose: This review aims to present the current information available on the use of lateral flow test strips to detect pathogens in food products to enhance food safety. Results: Frequent foodborne disease outbreaks from various food sources have increased the need for rapid and easy methods for routine analysis of foodborne pathogens. Present detection methods for foodborne pathogens require expensive instruments, experts, and long time for sample analysis. Lateral flow test strips have drawn attention in recent years because of their ability to detect analytes quickly and easily. This review focuses on the principle of the lateral flow test, the various formats of lateral flow test strips, recognition elements, labeling tags, and reading instruments. In addition, this review also discusses the future prospects for the lateral flow test strips.
Unlike existent field flow fractionation, new method, osmotic sink field flow fractionation is introduced and used ultrafiltration hollow fiber membranes as separation channel. This hollow fiber osmotic sink field flow fractionation is called HF-OSFFF. A theory that describes the retention, relaxation, resolution, plate number for the system, has been developed and experimentally verified by separation model of po1ystyrene latex beads. At external field, it is measured that radial flow rates change according to various concentrations of PEG solutions. Concentration of PEG solution vs. radial flow rate is a linear relation. For diameter distribution of unknown polymer sample, HF-OSFFF compared with the commercial capillary hydrodynamic flow fractionation (CHDF).

The nonlinear signals from an impedance meter for the area average void fraction in two-phase flow have been analyzed to construct a phase space trajectory. The pseudo phase space was constructed with the time delay and proper dimensions. The time delay and the embedding dimension were chosen by the average mutual information and by the false nearest neighborhood, respectively. The attractor-density-map of projected states was used to produce the two dimensional probability distribution functions (2D-PDF). Since the developed 2D-PDF showed clear distinction of the flow patterns, the flow regime identification was made with three rules and with the 2D-PDF. Also, the transition criteria of Mishima-Ishii agree well with the present results.
This paper presents an analysis of door design for the Ui LRT based on experiments to predict doorway flow-time and their analyses results. A similar railway vehicle (from Gimhae LRT) and operational conditions are utilized to assess the doorway flow-time through repetitive experiments. Design of the experiments consists of four scenarios, and the experiments are repeated 39 times in total. We use the results of the experiments to verify the design of doors of Ui LRT (e.g. the required number of doors and their width). Various statistical analyses are carried out for the flow-time with respect to the number of boarding/alighting passengers. We make three category levels of boarding/alighting passengers, and analyze the mean and variance for each category, and then carry out One-Way ANOVA to analyze how the number of boarding/alighting and onboard passengers impact flow-time. The results of this paper can be used for making decisions about doors of the LRT vehicle.
QoS monitoring is a kind of real-time systems which allows each level of the system to track the ongoing QoS levels achieved by the lower network layers. For these systems, real-time communications between corresponding transport protocol objects is essential for their correct behavior. When two or more entities are employed to perform a certain task as in the case of communication protocols, the capability to do so is called interoperability and considered as the essential aspect of correctness of communication systems. This paper describes a formal approach on modeling and interoperability test case generation of a real-time QoS monitoring protocol. For this, we specify the behavior of flow monitoring of transport layer QoS protocol, i.e., METS protocol, which is proposed to address QoS from an end-to-end's point of view, based on QoS architecture model which includes ATM net work in lower layers. We use a real-time Input/Output finite State Machine to model the behavior of real-time flow monitoring over time. From the modeled real-time I/OFSM, we generate interoperability test cases to check the correctness of METS protocol's flow monitoring behaviors for two end systems. A new approach to efficient interoperability testing is described and the method of interoperability test cases generation is shown with the example of METS protocol's flow monitoring. The current TTCN is not appropriate for testing real-time and multimedia systems. Because test events in TTCN are for message-based system and not for stream-based systems, the real-time in TTCN can only be approximated. This paper also proposes the notation of real-time Abstract Test Suite by means of real-time extension of TTCN. This approach gives the advantages that only a few syntactical changes are necessary, and TTCN and real-time TTCN are compatible. This formal approach on interoperability testing can be applied to the real-time protocols related to IMT-2000, B-ISDN and real-time systems.

The response time represents how fast a system responds to a given disturbance at the system boundary. Flow restricting devices for controlling transients can result in a decrease in the peakm pressure, but may change response time. Response lag in a hydraulic system leads to inefficient working cycle and operator discomfort. The experiments were conducted in order to get information on the parameters which exert appreciable influence on the response time. The experimental apparatu including a hydraulic actuator, orifice and a hydraulic pump was an idealization of a bucket hydraulic shifting system. Experimental results show that the response time depends on operating pressure and flow rate. The effects of orifice type and size on the response time are quantified.
