Characteristics of Run-up Height over Sandy Beach with Submerged Breakwaters ; PART II - Effect of Shape of Submerged Breakwaters (잠제 설치 연안의 처오름 높이 특성 ; PART II - 잠제의 제원에 의한 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of run-up height over sandy beach due to the shape of submerged breakwater. For the discussion on it in detail, 3-Dimensional numerical model with Large Eddy Simulation, which is able to simulate directly interaction of Wave Structure Sandy beach (hereafter, LES-WASS-3D; Hur and Lee, 2007) has been used to simulate run-up height over sandy beach as well as wave field around submerged breakwaters. Using the results obtained from numerical simulation, the effects of the shape of submerged breakwaters (crown height, crown width, crown length and submerged breakwater's slope gradient) on run-up height over sandy beach have been discussed related to the wave height distribution and characteristics of up-layer flow around ones.

The Characteristics of Sediment and a Design Method for Preventing Sediment in the beginning Lateral Sewer (단말 오수관거 에서의 퇴적특성과 퇴적방지를 위한 설계법 고찰)

  • The flow in the beginning lateral sewer can be characterized as intermittent and unsteady, and a moment maximum flow energy is required to transport fecal solids in the sewer. It is thus difficult to design to satisfy a minimum velocity criteria (0.6m/s), because of the substantially lower discharge in the beginning lateral sewer. This study is the result of a field survey, and aims to determine a design criteria for the minimum slope to prevent sediment in a lateral sewer. The survey performed on the two flat small catchments in Goyang-si consisting of D400mm hume-pipe, aimed to understand the manner in which the scope of a sewer slope has an effect on sediment in the beginning lateral sewer. The survey showed that the sewer slope below 3‰ had sedimentation of 88.7%, while the sewer slope of 3~6‰ had sedimentation of 47.8%. In addition, the minimum design slope was estimated to refer to the result of hydraulic experiments from Public Works Research Institute in Japan. Analysis showed that the D400mm hume pipe should be installed with a slope of 6.5‰ to prevent sediment in the beginning lateral sewer. For future installations, the study results showed that a D300mm plastic pipe requires a minimum slope of 3.5‰, and a D250mm plastic pipe requires a minimum slope of 3.3‰ in the beginning lateral sewer.

Flight Dynamics Analyses of a Propeller-Driven Airplane (II): Building a High-Fidelity Mathematical Model and Applications

  • This paper is the second in a series and aims to build a high-fidelity mathematical model for a propeller-driven airplane using the propeller's aerodynamics and inertial models, as developed in the first paper. It focuses on aerodynamic models for the fuselage, the main wing, and the stabilizers under the influence of the wake trailed from the propeller. For this, application of the vortex lattice method is proposed to reflect the propeller's wake effect on those aerodynamic surfaces. By considering the maneuvering flight states and the flow field generated by the propeller wake, the induced velocity at any point on the aerodynamic surfaces can be computed for general flight conditions. Thus, strip theory is well suited to predict the distribution of air loads over wing components and the viscous flow effect can be duly considered using the 2D aerodynamic coefficients for the airfoils used in each wing. These approaches are implemented in building a high-fidelity mathematical model for a propeller-driven airplane. Flight dynamic analysis modules for the trim, linearization, and simulation analyses were developed using the proposed techniques. The flight test results for a series of maneuvering flights with a scaled model were used for comparison with those obtained using the flight dynamics analysis modules to validate the usefulness of the present approaches. The resulting good correlations between the two data sets demonstrate that the flight characteristics of the propeller-driven airplane can be analyzed effectively through the integrated framework with the propeller and airframe aerodynamic models proposed in this study.

Variability of Calibration Factors for Open-Path CO2/H2O Infrared Gas Analyzer and Its Effect on Long-Term Flux Measurement (개회로 CO2/H2O 적외선 기체 분석기 보정 인자의 변동성과 장기 플럭스 관측에 미치는 영향)

  • Calibration experiments were executed to document pertinent calibration methods for open-path infrared gas analyzer (OP-2) in field operations and to quantify their performance characteristics in continuous long-term flux measurements. Based on our results, we concluded: (1) flow rate of 2.0 L min$^{-1}$ can be used for calibration instead of the recommended 0.5 L min$^{-1}$ . Such faster flow rate brings the sampled air in the calibration hood at equilibrium within 5 min for $CO_2$ and 10 min for $H_2O$; (2) after reaching equilibrium, two-minute average sampling for related variables per each concentration may be sufficient; (3) use of four concentration is needed to derive the nonlinear calibration equation for water vapor with 1% uncertainty of flux measurement; and (4) the resultant calibration interval for OP-2 for both $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ is approximately one month.

  • The interaction between a shock wave and a boundary layer causes boundary layer separation, shock train, and in some cases, strong unsteadiness in the flow field. Such a situation is also observed in a shock tube, where the reflected shock wave interacts with the unsteady boundary layer. However, only a few studies have been conducted to investigate the shock train phenomenon in a shock tube. In the present study, numerical studies were conducted using the two-dimensional axisymmetric domain of a shock tube, and compressible Navier-Stokes equations were solved to clarify the flow characteristics of shock train phenomenon inside a shock tube. A detailed wave diagram was developed based on the present computational results, which were validated with existing experimental data.

  • 우리의 언어생활을 비추어 볼 때 한자어 정보처리는 많은 연구가 이루어야 함에도 불구하고 고유어 언구에 비해 소흘해 다루어져 왔다. 본 연구는 단일 한자어를 구성하는 각 음절이 단어의 재인에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 점화과제를 통하여 알아보았다. 본 실험은 기존의 한자어 연구에 빈도특성과 고유어와 외래어의 글자특성까지 고려하여 종합적으로 살펴보았다. 먼저 실험1의 어휘판단관제에서는 고유어와 한자어의 양상이 비슷하며 외래어는 다른 처리를 하는 것으로 드러났다. 고유어와 한자어는 빈도에 따라 영향을 받지만 외래어는 빈도의 영향에 변함없이 일정하게 나타났다. 이런 결과는 한국인은 고유어와 한자어를 동일한 양상으로 처리하며 이런 이유는 외래어의 한국어와는 다른 음운규칙이나 음절규칙의 영향으로 해석할 수 있겠다. 실험 2에서는 한자어 형태소와 의미적으로 유사한 조건(강도-강력)과 철자적 유사 조건(강도-강변), 고유어 유사 조건(강도-강정)조건을 점화과제를 이용하여 어휘판단을 하게 하였다. 실험 결과 모든 조건이 통제조건에 비하여 빠르게 나왔다. 그리고 의미적 유사 조건이 촉진적 점화효과를 일으키고, 철자적 유사조건은 억제 효과를 일으켰으며 고유어는 특이하게도 판단시간이 빠르게 나와 한자어와는 다른 처리과정이 있음을 보여주고 있다. 이런 결과는 지연조건에서도 동일하게 일어나고 있다. 이런 결과는 한자어는 어휘접근 이후에도 실험의 과제 특성상 한자어 형태소는 단어 수준 아래 위치하기는 힘든 반면, 고유어는 단어 수준 아래에 존재한다고 할 수 있다. 결국 한자어와 고유어는 기본적으로 외래어와 다른 처리를 보이면 한자어와 고유어 내에서도 한자어는 단어접근 전에 의미접근의 단계를 거쳐야 하지만 고유어는 각 음절이 형태소가 아니기 때문에 바로 어휘에 접근하는 것이라고 할 수 있겠다.ulic geometry and sediment transport has been applied to: (1) gravel-bed transport measurements in a cobble-bed stream at Little Granite Creek, Wyoming; (2) sand and gravel transport by size fraction in the sharp meander bends of Fall River, Colorado; (3) changes in sand dune geometry and resistance to flow during major floods of the Rhine River in the Netherlands; (4) changes in hydraulic geometry of the Rio Grande downstream of Cochiti Dam, New Mexico; and (5) analysis of the influence of water temperature and the Coriolis force on flow velocity and sediment transport of the Lower Mississippi River in Louisiana.   • The measurement of abnormal change of temperature(temperature anomaly) will help determine the safety of various engineering constructions, as the measurement in body often used to diagnose one's health. Temperature anomaly can be occurred in leakage or seepage of water flow in rocks, and in ground water table etc. Grouting materials injected in fractured rocks generate heat during hardening process. The degree of temperature change is associated directly with heat flow characteristics, that is, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity. density of the surrounding rocks and can afford to assess the grouting efficiency. However, in practice, the use of traditional temperature measuring technique composed of only one single thermal sensor has been fundamentally limited to acquire thermal data sufficient to use for that, partly due to the time-consuming measuring work, partly due to the non-consecutive quality of data. Thus, in this paper, a new concept of temperature measuring technique, what we call, thermal line sensor technique is introduced. In this, the sensors with an accuracy of $0.02^{\circ}$ are inserted at regular intervals in one line cable and addressed by a control device, which enables to fundamentally enhance the capability of data acquisition in time and space. This new technology has been demonstrated on diverse field model experiments. The results were simply meant to be illustrative of a potential to be used for various kinds of temperature measurements encountered in grouting and leakage problems.

A study on the transient cooling process of a vertical-high temperature tube in an annular flow channel (환상유로에 있어서 수직고온관의 과도적 냉각과정에 관한 연구)

  • In the case of boiling on high temperature wall, vapor film covers fully or parcially the surface. This phenomenon, film boiling or transition boiling, is very important in the surface heat treatment of metal, design of cryogenic heat exchanger and emergency cooling of nuclear reactor. Mainly supposed hydraulic-thermal accidents in nuclear reactor are LCCA (Loss of Coolant Accident) and PCM (Power-Cooling Mismatch). Recently, world-wide studies on reflooding of high temperature rod bundles after the occurrence of the above accidents focus attention on wall temperature history and required time in transient cooling process, wall superheat at rewet point, heat flux-wall superheat relationship beyond the transition boiling region, and two-phase flow state near the surface. It is considered that the further systematical study in this field will be in need in spite of the previous results in ref. (2), (3), (4). The paper is the study about the fast transient cooling process following the wall temperature excursion under the CHF (Critical Heat Flux) condition in a forced convective subcooled boiling system. The test section is a vertically arranged concentric annulus of 800 mm long and 10 mm hydraulic diameter. The inner tube, SUS 304 of 400 mm long, 8 mm I.D, and 7 mm O.D., is heated uniformly by the low voltage AC power. The wall temperature measurements were performed at the axial distance from the inlet of the heating tube, z=390 mm. 6 chromel- alumel thermocouples of 76 .mu.m were press fitted to the inner surface of the heating tube periphery. To investigate the heat transfer characteristics during the fast transient cooling process, the outer surface (fluid side) temperature and the surface heat flux are computed from the measured inner surface temperature history by means of a numerical method for inverse problems of transient heat conduction. Present cooling (boiling) curve is sufficiently compared with the previous results.

The development of small water-jet propulsion for 150HP grade inboard type (150마력급 선내형 소형 워터제트 추진시스템 개발)

  • This study is on the development of 150PS inboard type of compact water jet propulsion system. The water jet is composed of intake, impeller, diffuser, reverse bucket and main shaft. Components of water jet have been manufactured through precision processing after sand casting. Development of water jet propelled engine has been finally completed by processes which are design, production and inspection on each component. The water jet performance characteristics show that 0.29 m3/s of maximum flow rate and 37 m/s of flow velocity have been secured in the ground test pool. Field test was performed by 21ft test ship that water jet propulsion equipment developed in this study was installed. As a result, the weight of hull, engine and other parts of the ship has been almost 1.2 ton and 45 km/h of maximum sailing speed has been recorded with 3700 rpm of engine in the domestic coast test.

An Application-embedded method to trace OTT viewing patterns on smartphone (스마트폰에서의 OTT(Over The Top)서비스 시청패턴 추적 어플리케이션 설계 : 티빙(tving)을 중심으로)

  • This study focuses on the fact that a OTT service is vigorously used for smart phones, and suggests a design of method to trace the experiences of watching television contents. For this purpose, we developed logging functions and embedded them into existing OTT service application to record flow and pattern of watching context. This paper suggests a log file format which can accurately and precisely record watching actions of users per-second methodology rather than former per-minute methodology. Moreover, this study shows that the application can trace watching attitude according to occurring events by characteristics and playing modes of realtime broadcasting, VOD, advertisement contents. In addition, based on the result of the study, this paper discusses educational, operational meaning of the method such as methodological application in mobile ethnography field or survey for total screening rate.
