  • An experiment on the expression and dewatering of chinese cabbage was conducted in order to investigate its dewatering behavior. Chopped cabbage was packed into cylinder and pressed by piston upto the predetermined pressure on Instron-1000. The rates of dewatering were affected domintantly by the applied pressure, but not significantly by the packed amount of cabbage in the cylinder. The pressure effect was increased very abruptly at first, but the increase rate was very low at high pressure greater than 20 MPa, showing great deviation from linear dependence of flow rate on pressure in Darcy's Law. Therefore, water expression from cabbage was not Newtonian flow of water through cell wall. In fact, the squeezed water contained a lot of solid particles, about 3% of solid cabbage particles, showing destruction of cell wall. It appeared that compression and dewatering of vegetable wastes in the low pressure. under 20 MPa, is more desirable for later treatment of the dewater. More researches are needed in order to develop a treatment method for the solid particles in the expressed water before an expeller treatment system can be applied to vegetable wastes.

  • Low Rayleigh number thermal convection in a fluid layer confined between two-infinite horizontal walls kept at spatially sinusoidal temperature distributions, T_L=T_m+\Delta T\sin \kappax,\;T_U=T_m+\Delta T\sin(\kappax-\beta)$, is theoretically investigated by a regular perturbation expansion method. For small wave numbers, an upright cell is formed between the two walls at $\beta$=0. The cell is tilted, as the phase difference increases, and a flow with tow counter-rotating eddies occurs at $\beta=\pi$. when the wave number is large, isolated eddies are formed near the lower and upper walls, for all the phase differences. There exists a wave number at which maximum heat transfer rate at the walls occurs, at each of the phase differences. And the wave number increases with increase of the phase difference. for a fixed wave number, the heat transfer rate decrease with increase of the phase difference.

  • The recently developed Harmonic Polynomial Cell (HPC) method has been proved to be a promising choice for solving potential-flow Boundary Value Problem (BVP). In this paper, a flux method is proposed to consistently deal with the Neumann boundary condition of the original HPC method and enhance the accuracy. Moreover, fixed mesh algorithm with free surface immersed is developed to improve the computational efficiency. Finally, a two dimensional (2D) multi-block strategy coupling boundary-fitted mesh and fixed mesh is proposed. It limits the computational costs and preserves the accuracy. A fully nonlinear 2D numerical wave tank is developed using the improved HPC method as a verification.

  • This paper presents the computational results for the two-dimensional compressible non-reacted flow in a converging-diverging micro thrust nozzle of which the ratio of exit to throat width (0.541 in.) is 1.8. The RNG model is applied to calculate the turbulence by loading the standard coefficients. The results agreed very well with the experiments in the view of the shock structure and the pressure distribution at the various pressure ratios between the stagnation and the environmental states. The plume structures are also discussed on the view of the shock-cell structure.

  • Temperature characteristics in a stack of molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) have been investigated with simulation based on the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes and experimental way. The MCFC has generally two stack structures when the natural gas is used as fuel; one is the external reforming type and the other is internal reforming type. Computer simulation at the external reforming stack suggests that the maximum temperature in the stack depends on the gas flow length. The 2 kW MCFC stack with 25 cm gas flow length showed about $675^\circ{C}$ of maximum temperature.

  • With the semiconductor industry evolving into the deep sub-micron (DSM) era, the crosstalk effects on interconnect lines of a chip have increasingly caused a major bottleneck for design closure. In this paper, we propose an effective design guide line to reduce cell area overhead without crosstalk noise violations by using crosstalk prevention flow with clock shielding.

  • We have been aware fer some time. that it is becoming harder to develop ASIC only, using the vendor wire model for the current top-down/bottom-up process. Because VDSM has a much bigger wired delay than cell delay, it is also difficult to reduce development time, as well as time-to-market, while developing several million gate ASIC's. The same is true for high frequency ASIC's with VDSM (which have larger wire delay versus cell delay). Therefore, a solution called “RTS-GDS”, using physical constraints fur SOC with timing met, is being actively discussed. This paper suggests a methodology for SOC development by utilizing a top down flow via CWLM along with discussing potential problems. This paper also provides a design flow, including physical synthesis, DFT, floor plan and CWLM, all of which are relevant to proper SOC development.

  • The present paper deals with the continuous work of extending multi-dimensional limiting process (MLP), which has been quite successfully proposed on two- and three-dimensional structured grids, onto the unstructured grids. The basic idea of the present limiting strategy is to control the distribution of both cell-centered and cell-vertex physical properties to mimic a multi-dimensional nature of flow physics, which can be formulated as so called the MLP condition. The MLP condition can guarantee a high-order spatial accuracy without yielding spurious oscillations. Recently, MLP slope limiter was proposed based on the MUSCL-type reconstruction in two-dimensional case and it can be readily extended to three-dimensional case. Through various numerical analyses and extensive computations, it is observed that the proposed limiters are quite effective in controlling numerical oscillations and very accurate in capturing both discontinuous and continuous multi-dimensional flow features on 3-D tetrahedral grids.

  • Thermo-chromic Liquid Crystal(TLC) particles were used as temperature sensor for thermal fluid flow. $1K\times1K$ CCD color camera and Xenon Lamp(500W) were used for the visualization of a Hele-Shaw cell. The characteristic between the reflected colors from the TLC and their corresponding temperature shows strong non-linearity. A neural network known as having strong mapping capability for non-linearity is adopted to quantify the temperature field using the image of the flow. Improvements of color-to-temperature mapping was attained by using the local color luminance (Y) and hue (H) information as the inputs for the constructed neural network.
