  • Apartment housing in the Korean domestic construction industry has had various and high-quality finishing work since the enforcement of price deregulation in 1998. Before the enforcement of price deregulation, feasibility studies of housing projects have not had particular difficulties as uniform description of finishing work items were reflected and finishing work cost also was equalized. However, the recent distinction of finishing work based on the same floor plan brings about project cost variation, along with many effects on construction management due to project cost increment. Accordingly, this paper suggests the improved plan of cost management to control the feasibility study result consistently during the life cycle of a project through an analysis based on cost management phase due to cost blackout, appearing at the commencement of a project, cost gradation caused by high-quality finishing work item, and cost reduction due to the degradation of finishing work after analysis of current apartment construction process focused on finishing work using the IDEF process analysis technique.

  • The goals of healthcare design based on the human rights to manage physically, psychologically, and emotionally healthy life. The healthcare designs, however, have been criticized not to reflect their primary users, patients' and families' needs, under the management strategy centered by the functional efficiency. The study focused on the patients' room design on the users' perspective. The design criteria for the patients' room in Japan, Germany, Australia, U.S. and Korea were examined and compared. The subjects of analysis are the floor plans of general hospital recently planned and built in Korea and Japan and the standard floor plan models proposed by prior studies in Korea and AusHFG in Australia. Results and conclusions are as follows: (1) the patients' room has developed as a place where the users manage their living during inpatient period and has become a private room. (2) The guidelines for patients' room size in Korea and Japan are not enough considering the users' diverse activities compare to those in U.S. and Australia. (3) The guidelines of Korea should be reconsidered for the users' comfortable lives. It must include the specific criteria of the enough space between beds, the storages, and other assistant tools and facilities. (4) The desirable types of patients' rooms by the numbers of users in Korea are proposed as a one-bed room type and a four-bed room type.

  • Currently, the multi-residential apartments used in Korea are mostly bearing wall apartments which don't satisfy consumers for the lack of architectural plan flexibility. And due to remodelling-incompatible, bearing wall apartments have to be reconstructed. It is, thus, necessary to develop multi-residential apartments utilizing composite beam that can replace the conventional bearing wall-type apartment buildings. Composite beams proposed in this paper ensure modification of space and quality control, while the floor heights are maintained at the same floor height as in bearing wall structures. This study analyzes the experimental behavior of composite beams with proper combination of structural steel, reinforced concrete, and precast concrete. By comparing with the theoretical analysis and experimental results, the accuracy of flexural moment capacity and neutral axis was evaluated. The experiments were performed by two simply-supported specimens using loading and unloading. When the analysis results were compared with the experimental results, the flexural moment capacity of the composite beam was shown with an error of approximately -0.5 to 0.1% at the maximum load limit state.

  • In this paper, an automatic system of locating the indoor area with weak or no mobile signal was proposed and demonstrated experimentally by using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Nowadays, the technicians of mobile services providers need to go along with numerous heavy equipment to measure and record the mobile signal strength at outside environment. Recently, there are systems proposed to do such measurement at outdoor area by using the IoT technology automatically. However, these works could not be applied in the indoor area since there are difficulties to do the indoor mapping and positioning. In this work, the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) was used to tackle these two difficulties. After a proper placement of BLE in the testing site, while the technician walk around with a handheld analyzer, the data can be obtained accordingly for further analysis in the proposed system which includes the construction of floor plan, detection of mobile signal strength and suggestion of indoor base stations. The gift wrapping and centroid algorithms were used during the analysis. The experimental results showed that the proposed system successfully demonstrated the indoor mapping, positioning of weak mobile signal area and suggestion of indoor base stations for the normal rectangular rooms with an area of 100 m2 on single floor.

  • The ventilation system for the efficient operation of the building services systems in the ventilation plan of super high-rise buildings is used to combine smoke control systems. This study evaluated models of super high-rise buildings with four basement levels and 59 stories and investigated the pressure distribution of each floor by the smoke driving forces by numerical analysis. The smoke driving forces on the building of analytical model was analyzed to determine the effects of the ventilation plan and smoke control plane. In addition, when a combination with ventilation and smoke control of the kitchen ventilation damper in the ventilation plan of analysis model building was designed based on the these results, the relationship between the opening and closing force of the damper and smoke driving combined forces to act on the design pressure of the damper by a motion analysis simulation. The driving units of the damper were selected from the analytical results.

  • A study on Composing Unit Spaces of Apartment Houses according to the Differentiation in Lifestyle by survey on preferences. The purpose of this study is to propose composition models of unit spaces for 85m2 net area apartment houses by lifestyle types. This study set up a hypothesis that there is a critical divergence of preferences in composition types of unit spaces according to lifestyle. To prove the hypothesis, investigation on variable floor plans of apartments to extract spatial composition types of units and questionnaire survey on lifestyleand preferences for composition types were implemented. To extract several factors regarding, characteristics of lifestyle, factor analysis, was implemented for each variable. Cluster analysis was conducted to cluster interviewees by similarity of lifestyle. To identify and define how each factor reacts, ANOVA and cross tabulation analysis between factors and clusters were used. The type of spatial composition was analyzed by plane characteristic, spatial relation and spatial usability on the basis of apartment plate type. As a result, lifestyle was divided into three types: reasonable lifestyle, trend-seeking lifestyle and conservative lifestyle. As, the result of investigating characteristics for the type of spatial composition according to the type of lifestyle, preferred types and main districts were different. Therefore, the hypothesis was proved.

  • Korea and China have had close relations not only geographically but also ideally and culturally throughout history. Regarding their lifestyles on housing patterns, however, Koreans had a sedentary way of life, usually sitting on the floor while Chinese had a standing lifestyle, sitting on a chair. This paper tries to have a comparative analysis on similarities and distinctions of two countries' traditional furniture that had complied with each lifestyle. This paper also aims to explore the similarities and distinctions of the form and function of the traditional furniture of the two countries and then to put results of this paper in design and plan of modern furniture and housing in our times. The study can be summarized as follows. Even if, cultural and historical relationships of two countries, there is a different of traditional furniture's forms and types. The major differences are as following : Korean furniture is predominantly on the floor level with storing furniture while Chinese one is intermixed with seat-level and floor level styles. These characters seem to be derived from their own housing and life style. In Ming and Qing period China, Their developed in which intermediate people and building. But, in Korea their housing style had floating floor against wet earth, which finished woods, Ondol. Because of these finishing, the Korean traditional furniture was developed into a good form and a suitable dimension for moving. These differences in furnishing style seemed to well reflect building and housing style of each country. And Image map and positioning map can show the differences in a whole aspect.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the organization of ithe internal space of Usonian houses that were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright between the 1930s and the 1950s. The Space Syntax Program was used to analyze spatial structure of these Usonian houses. The research range has been done on 9 case studies of Usonian house floor plans, which were designed from the 1930s to the 1950s. The shape of unit floor plans of Usonian house are usually in various L types, - types and transformed types etc.. The research results are as follows : 1) The service space(Kitchen etc.)is located at the center of house and it plays a role in separating the private space(bedroom etc.) and public space(living room etc.). 2) All of the bedrooms of Usonian houses have common characteristic : they are connected by a galley(corridor). 3) The organization of the inside space of most of these houses showed a tendency segregation space. 4) The galley inside space of Usonian house is the most integrated space in the house 5) The living room of the 1930s houses was analyzed as segregation space but it of 1940s and 1950s houses was analyzed as integration space 6) Although bedrooms are connected by galley, which is the highest integrated space of the inside space, this space is analyzed as a segregated space.

  • Purpose: There are no clear criteria for slip performance in the BF certification process, so the evaluator relies on subjective judgments depending on the field situation. Physical criteria for determining the slip performance of various floor finishes are not clear. C.S.R., the only criterion currently being used to check slip performance, may raise questions about its coverage, feasibility and reliability. Method: For an analysis of domestic standards and status, KS L 1001, KS M 3510, and KS F 2375. External standards are analyzed for ADA Standard, ANSI Standard, and BS EN Standard. Analyze the test methods and evaluation criteria of O-Y-PSM, BPT, and the dynamic slip resistance test used in these criteria. It also presents an improvement plan for the rational presentation of standards. Results: To date, various kinds of test methods and measuring devices of the slip resistance coefficient have been developed, but there are not many ways to trust useful results related to user safety. Reliability and thoroughly verified test methods and criteria should be used to assess the slip performance of the floor. In order to improve the standard for the evaluation of slip performance in Korea, the existing standard should first be raised to the same level as the overseas standard, and the application of the discriminatory standard should be applied considering the characteristics and usage patterns of each space. Implication: Currently, Korean standards propose various test methods, but the proper use of test methods, scope and assessment criteria are not established, so improvement of the comprehensive standard is necessary.

  • The new design concept for the middle school is developed as the seventh curriculum is published. However, the credible data for a plan study and spatial organization, and the type of rooms, and using area are hardly found. On this background, the purpose of this study is to provide fundamental resources for the design of middle schools and to recognize national status of plan organizations of middle schools with analizing the space and the type of rooms of collecting 150 schools' architectural plan drafted by city, province education office for 4 years(from 1997 to 2000) As a result, we know that although the class size of school is same, the area for school buildings is very diverse. Then, in order to increasing the area and to develop school buildings' quility, the meaning of standard level should be changed urgently minimum size to optimun size.
