  • In recent years, as flood damage caused by heavy rains increased, the great-depth tunnel using urban underground space is emerging as a countermeasure of urban inundation. The great-depth tunnel is used to reduce urban inundation by using the underground space. The drainage efficiency of great-depth tunnel depends on the intake design, which leads to increase discharge into the underground space. The spiral intake and the tangential intake are commonly used for the inlet facility. The spiral intake creates a vortex flow along the drop shaft and reduces an energy of the flow by the wall friction. In the tangential intake, flow simply falls down into the drop shaft, and the design is simple to construct compared to the spiral intake. In the case of the spiral intake, the water level at the drop shaft entrance is risen due to the chocking induced by the flowrate increase. The drainage efficiency of the tangential intake decreases because the flow is not sufficiently accelerated under low flow conditions. Therefore, to compensate disadvantages of the previously suggested intake design, the multi-stage intake was developed which can stably withdraw water even under a low flow rate below the design flow rate. The hydraulic characteristics in the multi-stage intake were analyzed by changing the flow rate to compare the drainage performance according to the intake design. From the measurements, the drainage efficiency was improved in both the low and high flow rate conditions when the multi-stage inlet was employed.

  • Precipitation has a wide range of applications, such as the management and operation of dams and rivers, supply of dranking water for urban and industrial complex, farming and fishing, forest greening, and safety management. In order to prepare for disasters and to obtain economical effects in case of flood damage, it is necessary to measure accurate precipitation. In this study, we carried out the characteristics tests for various types of rainfall gauge using integrated verification system, which can analyze the performance of collective type rainfall gauge. The uncertainty for tipping bucket rain gauge was 0.2887 mm. Therefore, it can be seen that the uncertainty is calculated differently depending on the characteristics of the rainfall gauges. The uncertainty is also influenced greatly by the resolution.

  • Recently, due to the influence of climate change, the occurrence of damage to heavy rain is increasing around the world, and the frequency of heavy rain with a large amount of rain in a short period of time is also increasing. Heavy rains generate a large amount of outflow in a short time, causing flooding in the downstream part of the mountainous area before joining the small and medium-sized rivers. In order to reduce damage to downstream areas caused by flooding, it is very important to calculate the outflow of mountainous areas due to torrential rains. However, the sewage network flooding analysis, which is currently conducting the most analysis in Korea, uses the time and area method using the existing data rather than calculating the rainfall outflow in the mountainous area, which is difficult to determine that the soil characteristics of the region are accurately applied. Therefore, if the rainfall is analyzed for mountainous areas that can cause flooding in the downstream area in a short period of time due to large outflows, the accuracy of the analysis of flooding characteristics that can occur in the downstream area can be improved and used as data for evacuating residents and calculating the extent of damage. In order to calculate the rainfall outflow in the mountainous area, the rainfall outflow in the mountainous area was calculated using MIKE SHE among the MIKE series, and the flooding analysis in the downstream area was conducted through MIKE 21 FM (Flood model). Through this study, it was possible to confirm the amount of outflow and the time to reach downstream in the event of rainfall in the mountainous area, and the results of this analysis can be used to protect human and material resources through pre-evacuation in the downstream area in the future.

  • After 1960s, in accordance with getting bigger in changing range of annual rain precipitation, those dams were built in order to prevent any drought and flood through the regulation of flux. In case of such dam, when it reaches to some definite pondage, for its regulation of water volume, numerous volume of water in the reservoir should be discharged by opening the floodgate, at this time a severe damage can be occurred to those lives and properties of the residents and tourists at the river or riverside. Accordingly, despite the sounding alarm broadcasting for prevention and notice such damage could be clearly travelled to those people without influence by the discharging noise or other neighboring environmental factor, since it was only empirically installed without any peculiar research until now, the alarm broadcasting could not effectively travel, and the travelling distance also could not known correctly. On such point of view, this Study has ever grasped the characteristics by frequencies and its sound pressure level about the discharge noise and the alarm broadcasting of Daechung Dam, one of multipurpose dams through the measurement and analysis by distances, and based on this, also has ever presupposed the proper location of additional alarm broadcasting spot using a simulation program named Cadna-A.

  • Recently, global climate change causes abnormal weather and disaster countermeasures do not provide sufficient defense and mitigation because they were established according to the historical climate condition. Repeated torrential rains, in particular, are causing damage even in the robust urban flood defense system. Therefore, in this study, the change of runoff considering the spatial distribution of rainfall and urban characteristics was analyzed. For rainfall concentrated in small catchment, rainfall in the watershed must be accurately measured. This study is based on the rainfall data observed with Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) and Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) provided by the Seoul Meteorological Administration. Effluent from the pumping station was estimated using the EPA-SWMM model and compared and analyzed. Catchments with rainwater pumping station are small with large portion of impermeable areas. Thus, when the ASOS data where is located from from the chatchment, runoff is often calculated using rainfall data that is different from rainfall in the catchment. In this study, the difference between rainfall data observed in the AWS near the catchment and ASOS away from the catchment was calculated. It was found that accurate rainfall should be used to operate rainwater pumping stations or forecast urban flooding floods. In addition, the results of this study may be helpful for estimating design rainfall and runoff calculation.

  • A localized torrential rainfall and flash floods which are more frequently occurred by extraordinary atmospheric phenomena and rising sea surface temperature require more hydrological data collecting and analysis for small watershed. Urban watershed hydrological data monitoring system is needed because of big flood potential damage and lack of urban watershed hydrological data. Therefore, Urban Flood Disaster Management Research Center operates small experimental catchments(Sinnae1, Gunja, and Children's Park) observing and analyzing hydrological data(rainfall, stage, and discharge). In this study, the discharge of combined sewage for Gunja experimental drainage is analyzed with weekly data and day of the week data. Through several analyses in analyzing the urban runoff characteristics and managing the urban sewage system, direct runoff is calibrated and verified by the estimated values of rainfall-runoff model(SWMM).

  • The rainfall characteristics such as heavy rains are changing differently from the past, and uncertainties are also greatly increasing due to climate change. In addition, urban development and population concentration are aggravating flood damage. Since the causes of urban inundation are generally complex, it is very important to establish an appropriate flood prevention plan. Thus, the government in Korea is establishing standards for disaster prevention performance for each local government. Since the concept of the disaster prevention performance target was first presented in 2010, the setting standards have changed several times, but the overall technology, methodology, and procedures have been maintained. Therefore, in this study, studies and technologies related to urban disaster prevention performance were reviewed using the scientometric analysis method to review them. This analysis is a method of identifying trends in the field and deriving new knowledge and information based on data such as papers and literature. In this study, papers related to the disaster prevention performance of the Web of Science for the last 30 years from 1990 to 2021 were collected. Citespace, scientometric software, was used to identify authors, research institutes, countries, and research trends, including citation analysis. As a result of the analysis, consideration factors such as the the concept of asset evaluation were identified when making decisions related to urban disaster prevention performance. In the future, it is expected that prevention performance standards and procedures can be upgraded if the keywords are specified and the review of each technology is conducted.

  • This study present an efficient way of operating drainage pump station as part of nonstructural measures for reducing urban flood damage. The water level in the drainage pump station was forecast using Neuro-Fuzzy and then operation rule of the drainage pump station was determined applying the genetic algorithm method based on the predicted inner water level. In order to reflect the topographical characteristics of the drainage area when constructing the Neuro-Fuzzy model, the model considering spatial parameters was developed. Also, the model was applied a penalty type of genetic algorithm so as to prevent repeated stops and operations while lowering my highest water level. The applicability of the development model for the five drainage pump stations in the Mapo drainage area was verified. It is considered to be able to effectively manage urban drainage facilities in the development of these operating rules.
