The sorption characteristics of dried garlic flakes stored at various relative humidity and storage temperature were studied. At low relative humidity below RH 51%, the sorption equilibrium was easily attained, whereas at higher relative humidity above RH 67%, the flakes were browned by higher equilibrium moisture content. The flakes were browned at relative humidity above 67% at $20^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$, above 84% at $5^{\circ}C$, respectively. The moisture contents of monolayer value for the flakes were ranging from 5.80% to 6.20% (DB) with varying temperatures. And the necessity of moisture-proof packaging material suggested for the long term storage of the flakes because the lower moisture content and storage temperature, the higher driving force of wetting. Regression equation for browning rate prediction with relative humidity and storage temperature of the flakes was determined.

The objective of this study was to determine whether sea cucumber flakes could be used in Gochujang. When the concentration of sea cucumber flakes added to Gochujang was increased from 0 to 3% or 5%, moisture content of sea cucumber flakes Gochujang was decreased from 44.13% to 5.52 or 5.58, respectively, although the difference in pH value between the 3% and 5% group was not statistically significant. Titratable acidity did not change with the addition of sea cucumber flakes. When the concentration of sea cucumber flakes added to Gochujang was increased from 0 to 3% or 5%, salinity of sea cucumber Gochujang was decreased from 8.83% to 7.92% or 7.42%, respectively. Amino-type nitrogen content was increased with the addition of sea cucumber flakes. However, the increase was not statistically significant. With increasing concentration of sea cucumber flakes added to Gochujang, color value a* was decreased from 13.82 to 12.25 and 11.14, respectively. Sensory results showed that color, flavor, test, and overall acceptance of Gochujang were all improved after the addition of sea cucumber flakes. There was no significance in color, flavor, test, or overall acceptance between the 3% and the 5% concentration groups of sea cucumber Gochujang.
This study examined the effects of a decrease in thickness of magnetic alloy flakes on the electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics of nanocrystalline $Fe_{73.5}Cu_1Nb_3Si_{15.5}B_7$ (at.%) alloy flakes/polymer composite sheets available for a quasi-microwave band. The thickness of FeCuNbSiB alloy flakes decreased to 1-2 $\mu$m with increasing milling time up to 24 h, and the composite sheet including alloy flakes milled for 24 h exhibited considerably enhanced power loss properties in the GHz range compared to the sheets having non-milled alloy powders. Although a considerable increase in loss factor upon milling was observed in the narrow frequency range of 4-6 GHz, there was no correlation between the complex permeability and flake thickness. However, the complex permittivity increased with increasing milling time, and there was good agreement between the milling time and the frequency dependences of the complex permittivity and power loss.

Fabrication of a nano-laminar ceramic composite by sintering thin ceramic plates was examined. Silver-coated glass flakes with a thickness of less than $1{\mu}m$ were consolidated by pulsed current sintering or hotpressing to obtain model composites. The samples sintered at the optimum conditions were fairly dense, and the flakes were aligned by uniaxial press. The metal coating remained on the flakes through the sintering process, and became an interface layer between the flakes. No crack propagation through the transverse direction of the lamellar was observed in the indentation test. The possibilities of high resistance against crack propagation was suggested.
The effects of annealing temperature on electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in $Fe_{73.5}Cu_1Nb_3Si_{15.5}B_7$ (at%) alloy flakes/polymer composite sheets available for quasi-microwave band have been investigated. The composite sheet including the magnetic flakes annealed at $425{\sim}475^{\circ}C$ for 1 h exhibited highest power loss in the GHz frequency range as compared with the sheets composed of the alloy flakes annealed at higher temperature than $475^{\circ}C$ or in as-milled state. Moreover the imaginary part of complex permeability had largest value in the GHz frequency range for the sheets including the flakes annealed at $425{\sim}475^{\circ}C$. The large value of power loss of the sheets including the magnetic flakes annealed at $425{\sim}475^{\circ}C$ was attributed to the high imaginary part of the complex permeability. However, because of its large transmission parameter $S_{21}$, the composite sheet having the magnetic flakes annealed at $525^{\circ}C$ showed low power loss.

In the preparation of Ag-coated Cu flakes using L-ascorbic acid as a reductant for the electroless Ag plating, the effects of pretreatment methods and the reductant concentration on the uniformity of Ag coating layer and the anti-oxidation property of Ag-coated Cu flakes during the heating in air were evaluated. It was found that the removal degree of surface oxide layer during the pretreatment has great influence on the uniformity of Ag coating layer and the formation degree of hole defects in the flakes has slight effect on the anti-oxidation property of Ag-coated Cu flakes. It was also verified that the reductant concentration has great influence on the coverage uniformity and thickness of Ag coating, thus it was could be considered a main process parameter. When the reductant concentration was 0.04 M, high-quality Ag-coated Cu flakes was obtained. When the concentration increased to 0.06 M, however, the anti-oxidation property of Ag-coated Cu flakes became remarkably worse owing to remnant of Cu surface non-coated with Ag by the formation of pure Ag fine particles.

This experiment was carried out to investigate occurrence ecology and control of soil-flakes in flood-direct seeded rice field. The occurrence of soil-flakes were inhibited in blue light of 450nm wave length and promoted in red light of 660nm wave length. The diatoms of Pinnularia spp. largely occurred in low fertilizer level and which much more increased when nitrogen was mixed with thinly soil depth. The diatoms of Pinnularia spp. were effectively controlled by carbamate and triazine herbicides when treated in pre-emergence of soil-flakes. Beside, triazine herbicides, simetryne, dimethametryn, prometryne 5g ai/10a showed high control effect in pre and post-emergence of soil-flakes. Expecially, In water-direct seeded rice pyrazosulfuron-methyl molinate simetryne 5.37% GR and dimepiperate bensulfuron dimethametryn 7.643% GR showed high control effect on the soil-flakes when treated at 10 days after seeding and didn't showed rice injury.
Job's-tears(Coix lachryma-jobi L. var. Ma-yuen Stapf) seeds were processed to flakes by soaking, heat treatment, intermediate-moisture drying, flaking, drying, and cooking. Some functional properties of job's-tears flakes subjected to varing degree of heating were characterized by specific volume, texture, water absorption index(WAI), water solubility index(WSI), and viscosity. As degree of gelitinization increased within the intermediate range of $60{\sim}70%$, steam-cooked Job's-tears demonstrated appropriate rheological properties for further processes, resulting in increased specific volume and decreased breaking strength. However, excessive heat treatment rendered Job's-tears undesirably sticky for flaking, which caused adverse effects on the functional properties of flakes such as specific volume and breaking strength. Increasing steaming time$(5{\sim}30\;min)$ caused an increase in WAI and WSI values. Apparent viscosity of powdered flakes was increased with the extent of gelitinization as a function of heat processing. Viscosity of powdered flakes determined using the amylograph increased with the degree of heating applied to Job's-tears at low pasting temperatures, accompanied by a decrease in maximum viscosity as the pasting temperature increased.
To elucidate the effects of a pretreatment process on the uniformity of Ag electroless plating on Cu flakes, pretreatment time was mainly considered with a mixed solution of 0.15 M ammonium hydroxide and 0.0375 M ammonium sulphate. Optical inspection of Ag-coated Cu flakes determined that the optimal pretreatment time is 120 s. Repetition of the sequence in which Ag plating was done immediately after the pretreatment of 120 s clearly enhanced the plating uniformity. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that holes were formed irregularly on some Cu flakes during the period from the asdropping of an Ag precursor solution to 5 min. The hole formation was judged to be due to continuous removal of Cu on the local surfaces by the repetitive formation and elimination of $Cu_2O$ or $Cu(OH)_2$ layers. However, the increase of the amount of Ag coating suppressed the hole creation and increasingly enhanced the antioxidant property.
To study the effects of graphite shape and the composite fabricating method on the mechanical properties of graphite/copper (Gr/Cu) composites, a copper composite using graphite flakes or graphite granules as reinforcing phases is fabricated using mechanical mixing or electroless plating method. The mechanical properties of the Gr/Cu composites are evaluated by compression tests, and the compressive strength and elongation of the Gr/Cu composites using graphite granules as a reinforcing phase are compared with those of Cu composites with graphite flakes as a reinforcing phase. The compressive yield strength or maximum strength of the Gr/Cu composites with graphite granules as a reinforcing phase is higher than that of the composites using graphite flakes as a reinforcing phase regardless of the alignment of graphite. The strength of the composite produced by the electroless plating method is higher than that of the composite material produced by the conventional mechanical mixing method regardless of the shape of the graphite. Using graphite granules as a reinforcing phase instead of graphite flakes improves the strength and elongation of the Gr/Cu composites in all directions, and reduces the difference in strength or elongation according to the direction.
