Target State Estimator Design Using FIR filter and Smoother

  • The measured rate of the tracking sensor becomes biased under some operational situation. For a highly maneuverable aircraft in 3D space, the target dynamics changes from time to time, and the Kalman filter using position measurement only can not be used effectively to reject the rate measurement bias error. To cope with this problem, we present a new algorithm which incorporate FIR-type filter and FIR-type fixed-lag smoother, and demonstrate that it has the optimal performance in terms of both estimation accuracy and response time through an application example to the anti-aircraft gun fire control system(AAGFCS).

The Bias Error due to Windows for the Wigner-Ville Distribution Estimation (위그너-빌 분포함수의 계산시 창문함수의 적용에 의한 바이어스 오차)

  • Too see the effects of finite record on the estimation of WVD in practice, a window which has time varying length is examined. Its length increases linearly with time in the first half of the record, and decreases from the center of the record. The bias error due to this window decreases inversely proportionally to the window length as time increases in the first half. In the second half, the bias error increases and the resolution decreases as time increases. The bias error due to the smoothing of WVD, which is obtained by two-dimensional convolution of the true WVD and the smoothing window, which has fixed lengths along time and frequency axes, is derived for arbitrary smoothing window function. In the case of using a Gaussian window as a smoothing window, the bias error is found to be expressed as an infinite summation of differential operators. It is demonstrated that the derived formula is well applicable to the continuous WVD, but when WVD has some discontinuities, it shows the trend of the error. This is a consequence of the assumption of the derivation, that is the continuity of WVD. For windows other than Gaussian window, the derived equation is shown to be well applicable for the prediction of the bias error.

Design of Low-error Fixed-width Modified Booth Multiplier Using Booth Encoder Outputs (Booth 인코더 출력을 이용한 저오차 고정길이 modified Booth 곱셈기 설계)

  • This paper presents an error compensation method for a fixed-width modified Booth multiplier that receives a W-bit input and produces a W-bit product. To efficiently compensate for the quantization error, Booth encoder outputs (not multiplier coefficients) are used for the generation of error compensation bias. The truncated bits are divided into two groups depending upon their effects on the quantization error. Then, different error compensation methods are applied to each group. By simulations, it is shown that quantization error can be reduced up to 50% by the proposed error compensation method compared with the existing method with approximately the same hardware overhead in the bias generation circuit. It is also shown that the proposed method leads to up to 40% reduction in area and power consumption of a multiplier compared with the ideal multiplier.

  • Double-diffused metal oxide power semiconductor field effect transistors are used extensively in recent years in various circuit applications. The temperature variation of the drain current at a fixed bias shows both positive and negative resistance characteristics depending on the gate threshold voltage and gate-to source bias votage. In this paper, the decision method of the gate crossover voltage by the temperature variation and a new method to determine the gate threshold voltage graphecally are presented.

Wind and Airspeed Error Estimation with GPS and Pitot-static System for Small UAV

  • This paper presents a method to estimate steady wind and airspeed bias error using an aircraft with GPS and airspeed sensor. The estimation uses the vector relation between the inertial, air, and wind velocities through a novel design of an extended Kalman filter. The observability analysis is also presented to show that the aircraft is required to keep changing its flight direction for the desired observability. The feasibility and performance of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through simulations and flight experiments.

Socioeconomic Determinants of Korean Medicine Ambulatory Services: Comparing Panel Fixed Effect Model with Pooled Ordinary Least Square (한방외래의료 이용의 사회경제적 결정요인 연구: 의료패널자료를 이용한 고정효과모형과 합동 Ordinary Least Square 모형의 비교)

  • Background: Korea is considered to have an integrative health system where both western medicine and Korean (traditional) medicine are officially recognized and provided. Although Korean medicine has been covered by National Health Insurance over 20 years, equity in the utilization of Korean medical care has rarely been examined. Methods: We examined medical care utilization and expenditure of outpatient Korean medicine using panel fixed effects model to remove selection bias. Then we compared it with pooled ordinary least square (OLS) model. This study used Korea Health Panel data, which provides accurate information on out-of-pocket health care payment, including non-covered medical services. Results: Principal findings indicate that the frequency of the utilization of Korean medicine is related with unobservable individual choices different from western medicine, so the panel fixed effect model is appropriate. But pooled OLS model is better fitted for the expenditure of Korean medicine, after controlling for western medical care expenditure. After adjusting for the selection bias, socioeconomic status (income, education) was significantly associated with the expenditure of Korean medicine, but not with the frequency of the utilization of Korean medicine. Conclusion: This study shows that expenditure of Korean medicine utilization is inequitable across socioeconomic groups, which implies that health insurance coverage of Korean medicine is not sufficient.

Assisted GNSS Positioning for Urban Navigation Based on Receiver Clock Bias Estimation and Prediction Using Improved ARMA Model

  • Among the various error sources in positioning and navigation, the paper focuses on the modeling and prediction of receiver clock bias and then tries to achieve positioning based on simulated and predicted clock bias. With the SA off, it is possible to model receiver clock bias more accurately. We selected several types of GNSS receivers for test using ARMA model. To facilitate prediction with short and limited sample pseudorange observations, AR and ARMA are compared, and the improved AR model is presented to model and predict receiver clock bias based on previous solutions. Our work extends to clock bias prediction and positioning based on predicted clock bias using only 3 satellites that is usually the case under urban canyon situation. In contrast to previous experiences, we find that a receiver clock bias can be well modeled using adopted ARMA model. Test has been done on various types of GNSS receivers to show the validation of developed model. To further develop this work, we compare solution conditions in terms of DOP values when point positioning is conducted using 3 satellites to simulate urban positioning environment. When condition allows, height component is derived from other ways and can be set as known values. Given this condition, location is possible using less than 2 GNSS satellites with fixed height. Solution condition is also discussed for this background using mode of constrained positioning. We finally suggest an effective predictive time span based on our test exploration under varied conditions.

Effect of Bias for Snapshots Using Minimum Variance Processor in MFP (최소분산 프로세서를 사용한 정합장 처리에서 신호단편 수에 따른 바이어스의 영향)

  • When using a sample covariance matrix data in paucity of snapshots, adaptive matched field processing will have problem in inverting covariance matrix due to the rank deficiency. The general solutions are diagonal loading and eigenanalysis methods, but there is a significant bias in the power output. This paper presents a quantitative study of bias of power output and the performance of source localization through the simulation and the measured data analysis in fixed source case using the diagonal loading method for the minimum variance processor. Results show that the bias in power output is reduced and the performance of source localization is improved when the number of snapshots is greater than the number of array sensors.

Improvement of Sensing Performance on Nasicon Amperometric NO2 Sensors (나시콘 전류검출형 NO2 센서의 성능개선)

  • Many electrochemical power devices such as solid state batteries and solid oxide fuel cell have been studied and developed for solving energy and environmental problems. An amperometric gas sensor usually generates sensing signal of electric current along the proportion of the concentration of target gas under the condition of limiting current. For narrow variations of gas concentration, the amperometric gas sensor can show higher precision than a potentiometric gas sensor does. In additional, cross sensitivities to interfering gases can possibly be mitigated by choosing applied voltage and electrode materials properly. In order to improve the sensitivity to $NO_2$, the device was attached with Au reference electrode to form the amperometric gas sensor device with three electrodes. With the fixed bias voltage being applied between the sensing and counter electrodes, the current between the sensing and reference electrodes was measured as a sensing signal. The response to $NO_2$ gas was obviously enhanced and suppressed with a positive bias, respectively, while the reverse current occurred with a negative bias. The way to enhance the sensitivity of $NO_2$ gas sensor was thus realized. It was shown that the response to $NO_2$ gas could be enhanced sensitivity by changing the bias voltage.

  • In this paper, I propose a general hypothesis that after the enactment of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOA) financial statements convey more accurate and reliable corporate information to investors who in turn reflect such improvements in stock prices and test four practical hypotheses that simultaneously feature the degree of information asymmetry, forecast bias, and investor reaction to biased earnings information. The empirical results unanimously suggest that the post-SOA investors take advantage of the improvement in informational efficiency and accuracy and actively adjust for analyst forecast bias in earnings forecasts. The SOA indeed appears to achieve its primary goal of investor protection.
