  • The purpose of this study is to develop functional and sensible brassiere for middle-aged women. As a methodology, engineering design process, especially, QFD(Quality Function Deployment) was adopted to translate consumer's needs into product design parameters. Wearing tests of commercial brassiere were performed for the development o subjective measurement scale. The environmental condition was controlled at 28$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 65$\pm$3%RH. As results, subjective measurement scale and dimension for the evaluation of sensible brassiere were extracted from factor analysis. Four factors were fitting, aesthetic property, pressure sensation, displacement of brassiere due to movement. Regression equations with the subjective evaluation descriptors were developed for the prediction of wearing comfort of brassiere. (R2=.82) The most critical design parameter was wire-related property and second one was stretchability of main material of brassiere. Also, wearing comfort of brassiere was affected by the interaction of initial stretchability of wing and support of strap.

  • In recent fire protection system, the pipings should be light weighted, seismic proof and wrought with non-welding method. The light weighted stainless steel pipes and fittings, satisfying these requirements, are already used as a fire protection system in Germany, Netherland, Taiwan, Australia, United States and Japan. Accordingly, performance evaluation tests were carried out to determine whether or not the fittings can be used in the pipings. As the performance evaluation tests, we conducted vibration test, water hammering test, bending test and fire test. With the results of the tests, we concluded that the fittings can be used in the fire protection system, and that the life expectancy of the fittings exceeds that of buildings.

  • Several models for the evaluation of Gross Heat Release from the internel combustion engine (ICE) are often used in literature. One of these is the First Law - Single Zone Model (FL-SZM), derived from the First Law of Thermodynamic. This model present a twice advantage: first it describes with accuracy the physic of the phenomenon (charge heat release during the combustion stroke and heat exchange between gas and cylinder wall); second it hat a great simplicity in the mathematical formulation. The evaluation of Heat Release with the FL-SZM is based on pressure experimental measurements inside the cylinder, and ell the assumption of several parameters as the specific heat ratio, wall temperature, polytropic exponent for the motored cycle evaluation, and many others. In this paper the influence of gases thermodynamic properties on Cross Heat Release has been esteemed. In particular the influence of an appropriate equation for k=k(T) (specific heat ratio vs. temperature) which describes the variations of gases thermodynamic properties with the mean temperature inside the cylinder has been evaluated. This equation has been calculated by new V order Logarithmic Polynomials (VoLP), fitting experimental gases properties through the least square methods.

  • The objective of this study is to propose a method by which movement fitness can be evaluated using a three-dimensional virtual garment simulation program. To this end, five types of jean pants for men were evaluated on the program by setting the avatars to make particular movements to examine the level of pressure on each body part. To verify whether the clothing pressure measurement produces valid and reliable results, virtual garment simulation program was utilized. The results indicated that there were significant differences in the levels of pressure on body parts depending on the type of test garment and motion. In addition, the clothing pressure measurement results were in line with the appearance evaluation results suggested by a previous study. Based on this set of results, the nomological validity of the clothing pressure measurement program used in this study was verified. Moreover, we employed an appearance evaluation along with the clothing pressure measurement to verify the reliability of the program; there was a high correlation between clothing pressure measurements and appearance evaluation measurements, indicating that measuring clothing pressures may well compensate for the limitations of appearance evaluation. We expect the results of this study to make valuable contributions in facilitating the digitalization of the fashion industry. Furthermore, this study also is significant in that it has suggested 3D virtual fitting programs as a solution to the long-criticized problem related to the evaluation of movement fitness in existing virtual garment simulation programs.

  • Purpose: This study is to conduct usability evaluations from the perspective of developing comfort-shoes for the middle-aged and elderly to identify key factors and derive implications for optimal comfort-shoes production. Research design, data, and methodology: A total of 10 middle-aged and elderly women in their 50s and 60s were selected as eligible for the rescue. For data collection, the study was conducted in a Gang Survey, where pre-explanations, shoes test, and interviews were conducted. The collected data were analyzed in a total of four stages. In step 1, the contents obtained through interviews with the subjects were recorded in text, organized and analyzed systematically, and in step 2, unnecessary vocabulary, sentences, and overlapping opinions were eliminated. In step 3, we classified areas around key functions and carried out categorization tasks. Finally, in Step 4, the results and implications of the study were derived by classifying each usability evaluation shoe as positive and negative text around categorized data. Results: There are a total of seven factors for comfort-shoes usability evaluation, which are categorized as cushion, fitting, stability, flexibility, lightweight, comfort, and pressure. Positive/negative factors for the derived usability evaluation factors were shown in the form of a positive-centered, negative-centered, and positive-mixed mix for each of the four products. Positive-focused products are VA products, which are seven times more positive than negative factors. Negative-centered products are CL and SA products, which are five times more negative than positive factors. Positive mixing was a CA product with a ratio of 1:1. Text-based usability evaluations allow us to proceed with analysis based on more scientific data rather than simply listening to opinions and judging by comments. Conclusions: The study discussed implications of developing comfort-shoes for middle-aged consumers and future directions were discussed.

  • As mobile device usage time increases thanks to the development of information and communication alongside the increase in the spread of smartphones, mobile shopping has become a common trend. While mobile shopping has the advantage of saving both time and money, it may also result in dissatisfaction with product differences after purchase. For online clothing shopping malls, in particular, if the size does not match after purchase, it is difficult for customers to return or exchange the goods. To address this problem, some mobile apparel shipping malls offer a virtual fitting service and a size comparison function; however, the number of such malls remains low. In this paper, a usability evaluation was performed on a mobile apparel shopping mall that provides a size comparison function. The three apps selected for evaluation have different size input methods, and a slightly different method of providing results after comparing the user's dimensions with the dimensions of the clothes to be purchased. In this paper, the evaluators were asked to select clothes at the shopping mall and perform the task of deciding the size of the clothes to be purchased through their own measurements and comparison while also evaluating the effectiveness, meaning, and satisfaction of the apps. Based on the analysis of the results, this paper aims to produce an improvement plan and help design the size comparison UI (User Interface) in the future.

  • In this paper, various structures of the healthcare smart clothing for real-time measurement of vital sign were suggested. The wearing efficiency was evaluated to find out the best ergonomic clothing in the suggested design. The supplementary effects of the clothing components (princess line, double fabric, cushion) on the stable and tight positioning of sensors to the body were evaluated with wear test. Five experimental clothing for male subject were made with closely-fitted shape and they included two representative structure: one was the integrated type of inner and outer garments and the other was the separated type with two garments. Eight subjects in their twenties were participated in the wear test to evaluate the wearing efficiency of experimental clothing. As results, the clothing structure of the separated garments with the inner and the outer shells were evaluated as more efficient and comfortable. However, the effects of clothing components on the light positioning of the sensors to the body surface were not differentiated each other in the subjective evaluation.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the pattern of safety clothes used at flat or mountainous areas and to identify the pattern of safety clothes by conducting experimental evaluation of virtual wear. Three subjects were selected, based on fire fighters' physical constitution. A prototype design for safety clothing was determined after in-depth interviewing of professionals and surveying of Forest service staff and related agency. Wearing test should be carried out in the order of pattern making, virtual and real wearing evaluation. For data analysis, technical statistical values should be obtained by using body measurements of subject, frequency analysis and T-test. The jacket is designed to have a front extension and the entire length of clothing enough for wearer to put on it over ordinary shirts or sweater. The collar of jacket is of round type. Cyber reality enables to identify the movement and activity of virtual fitting model and to find out errors or problems in safety clothing prior to on-the-spot wear test, thus raising the precision level of pattern. There was significant difference between real and virtual fit preference. The results show that the virtual try-on system need the development of a specific style.
