We aimed to assess the behavior characteristics of fish on an artificial reef using hydroacoustic techniques. The acoustical survey was conducted with a 200 kHz dual beam transducer while fishing on the stone combination reef of Uljin. A school of fish were detected on the artificial reef before sunset and floated on the artificial reef at 30 minutes after sunset. The density (Nautical Area Scattering Coefficient, NASC) of fish that floated on the artificial reef after sunset was about $600m^2/nmi^2$; similar observations (about $50m^2/nmi^2$ or less) were noted after 19:00 hours. Fish caught by fishing on the artificial reef were Sebastes schlegeli, Hexagrammos otakii, Sebastes thompsoni, and Conger myriaster. Resultantly, we demonstrated that hydroacoustic techniques are useful for detecting behavior characteristics of fish in the artificial reef. Such results can be used for basic data to estimate the install effect of the artificial reefs.

In order to estimate the effect of ceramic artificial reefs on the fisheries resources enhancement, we have studied the variation of catch and species, which were caught by trammel net on the three fishing grounds of ceramic artificial reef, natural reef, and control(non-reef)in the coast of Geomun-do, Korea from 2001 to 2003. Catch per unit effort (CPUE ; g/panel) of fishing ground with the ceramic artificial reef area was 1,621.9g, it was about 67.9% higher than the natural reef area 333.3% higher than the control area. The catch of fish with the ceramic artificial and the natural reef area was not significantly different based on statistical analysis of Tukey test, whereas the relationship between the ceramic artificial reef and the control area was significantly different (p<0.05). Monthly mean number of species caught by the artificial reef area, the natural reef area and the control area was no difference by ANOVA test. The catch of fish was highest in November and lowest in May, whish was associated with the natural reef and the control area. The dominant species were demersal fishes living around rock such as Pagrus majir, Thamnaconus modestus, Stephanolepis sirrhifer, Pleuronichthys curntus, and Ostracion cubicus in the artificial reef area, but demersal of migratory fishes in the natural reef and the control area.

This study describes the postinstallation maintenance technology of artificial reefs and their improvement. The maintenance technology of artificial reefs consists of four steps; the investigation of volumes of installed reefs, the removal of fishing gears entangled in reefs, the estimation of reef functions, and the establishment of surveyed results in the data base. The proper understandings of their steps is the key to improve the maintenance technology of artificial reefs.
In order to establish effective fishing ground environment equipment and artificial reef in coastal area, the methodology to select the most suitable area for artificial reef should be applied after analyzing the correlation between fishing ground environment and ocean environment. In this paper, thematic maps were prepared by using satellite remote sensing and GIS for the sea surface temperature, chlorophyll, transparency, the depth of sea water and the condition of submarine geologic which are considered as the most elements when selecting suitable area for artificial reef in Tong-Yong bay. Then, the most suitable area for artificial reef was selected by giving weight score depending on the suitable condition of this area and analyzing spatial data. The results showed it makes possible for this methodology, which selects the suitable area for artificial reef using satellite remote sensing and GIS, to manage the institution of artificial reef more entirely and efficiently through analyzing and visualizing.

As part of the government's fishery resource creation policy, fishing ground creation projects have been undertaken in Korea's major seashore fishing spots since the 1970s, where artificial reefs constructed using new materials that make up for the weakness of concrete reefs have been used. In this study, the stability of these artificial reefs when acted upon by external forces, their ability to attract and gather fish, and their economic feasibility were examined. For this purpose, an experimental artificial steel reef was constructed and was installed in an area of the sea. Then the corrosion of the experimental material attached to it was investigated. The efficiency of the artificial steel reef was then verified by examining its functionality, removal, and burying, as well as the speed of insertion of living things into its structure and its ability to attract and gather fish.

Underwater CCTV camera systems are increasingly replaced the traditional net approach of assessing the species, numbers and aggregation patterns of marine animals distributing around the artificial reefs installed in the inshore fishing grounds, in particular, in relation to the biological investigation of behavior and distribution patterns of target fishes. In relation to these needs, we developed a multi-directional underwater CCTV camera system to use in detecting and tracking marine animals in the artificial reef ground. The marine targets to be investigated were independently tracked by using a camera module toward the bottom and four camera modules installed in the interval of $90^{\circ}$ in horizontal plane and inclination of $45^{\circ}$ in vertical plane of the CCTV system without the overlap of video frames by each camera module. From the results of several field tests at sea, we believe that the developed multi-directional underwater CCTV camera system will contribute to a better understanding in evaluating the effect of artificial reefs installed in the inshore fishing grounds.

This paper an application example of PIV system for analyzing the flow of submerged structure. In this paper, we introduce an analysis method to predict the characteristics of flow around the neighboring fields of tetrapod and fishing reef in order to develop a high performance model. Flowing phenomenon according to velocity distribution and flow separation around the submersed body were obtained by PIV system. Flow visualization has conducted in a circulating water channel by a high speed camera and etc.
This study is to estimate the factor weights for a successful sea-ranching project using the Analytical Hierarchy Process. Furthermore, it investigates the policy implications revealed by the differences in group opinions throughout fishermen, government officials, researchers and the scholars when the weights are assessed. The hierarchy is constructed for the 3 levels of factors which must be evaluated for a successful sea-ranching project. The top level of factors is divided by the ecological factors and the socioeconomic factors. As the middle level of factors, there are 3 factors such as the choice of fish, the habitat environment and the production technology under the ecological factors and another 3 factors such as the stability of fishery society, economic factors, and the law & system under the socio-economic factors. And then, at the bottom level of the hierarchy, the economic factors have two different sub-factors such as the fishing revenue and cost. The law & system has also 3 sub-factors such as the accessibility to sea-ranching area, fishing method, and surveillance. The fishermen and government officials show us quite opposite tendencies in assessments of the weights while both the researchers and scholars reveal almost the same opinions positioned at somewhere between first two groups. The study also reports the evaluations of efficiency measures for resource recovery methods among the sea-ranching project, artificial reef, release of fish seeds, and marine protection area. Both the sea-ranching project and marine protection area have the same efficiency in terms of resource recovery while the artificial reef and release of fish seeds are revealed as somewhat less efficient methods comparing to the former two methods.

To have a better understanding of the impact of the PETRONAS oil and gas platform on commercial fisheries activities, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) examined two approaches which are data collection from satellite and data collection from fishermen and anglers. By profiling the anglers who utilize reefed oil and gas structures for fishing, it can determine if the design and location of the reef platforms will benefit or negatively impacts those anglers and fisherman. Furthermore, this assessment will be contributing to the knowledge regarding the value of offshore oil and gas platforms as fisheries resources. Collectively, the apparent fishing activity data included, combined with the findings in the reefing viability index will help to inform PETRONAS's future decommissioning decisions and may help determine if the design and proposed locations for future rigs-to-reefs candidates would benefit commercial fishing groups, further qualifying them as appropriate artificial reef candidates. The method applied in this study is approaching by using a data satellite known as Google's Global Fishing Watch technology, which is one of the applications to measure commercial fishing efforts around the globe. The apparent commercial fishing effort around the selected twelve PETRONAS platforms was analyzed from January 2012 to December 2018. Using the data collection from fishermen which is the total estimation of commercial fish value cost (in Malaysia ringgit, MYR [RM]) in Peninsular Malaysia Asset, Sabah Asset, and Sarawak Operation region. The data were extracted every month from 2016 to 2018 from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration database. Most of the selected platforms that show a high frequency of vessels around the year are platform KP-A, platform BG-A and platform PL-B. The estimated values of commercial fishes varied between platforms, with ranged from RM 10,209.92 to RM 89,023.78. Thus, platforms with high commercial fish value are selected for reefing in-situ and will serve multi-purposes and benefit the locals as well as the country. The current study has successfully assessed the potential reefing area of the Malaysian offshore environment with greater representativeness and this paper focused on its potential as a new fishing ground.
Recently those who visit a fishing village is increasing. So the government's policymaker is interested in a tourism of fishing village. There are a lot of local governments that they turn it to good account to activate the fishing community. So they plan for the tourism facility in the fishing village and invest in it. The fishery facility can playa role in it. Nonetheless it is not playing a role in tourism facility. Though the breakwaters projecting far into the sea are good waterfront, most of them are not reflecting the function of it. And fishery facility producing seed is a good resource of eco-tourism, but it is yet a tourist potential. Although the artificial reef is going far toward promoting a fishery resource, it is seldom used as a tourism resource. The multiple functions of fishery facilities have to be improved to raise the investment effect of them. Especially the tourism function has to be added on their basic function. The multiple functions of fishery facilities is necessary to satisfy tourist's needs. In results, not only their value but also value of fishing village will be raised.
