Purpose - The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between firm's non financial performance and its shareholder return by analyzing PCA while focusing on the classifying all the variables into three categories such as financial, characteristics, and non financial factors of the firms. Design/methodology/approach - By exploring the pattern of self tender from the 801 firms in KOSPI while focusing on the objective of stock disposal, this paper analyzes the change of shareholder return of the firm. Findings - First, the higher major ownership, the lower self tender gets, whereby the higher ownership by foreigners, the ratio of self tender is higher. Secondly, cash dividend has not significant impact on the disposal of self stock, and the high ratio of ownership by foreigners leads to the high probability of retirement rather than the general disposal. In contrast, the major ownership has a negative impact on the general disposal as well as retirement. Thirdly, the score of non financial factors such as Environment(E), Social responsibility(S), and Governance(G) shows the high value in case of the firms with self tender. More specifically, the firms with retirement has the highest value of ESG while it has the lowest value in case of the firms with general disposal. Research implications or Originality - The retirement which means the active shareholder return is strongly affected by the non financial factors. Specifically, the probability of retirement increases in case of the firms with retirement, and even such a tendency is found to the case of the firms with general disposal.
With the first agrement in 2004, Korea(ROK) has been one of the most active countries participating in FTA. Companies should meet some requirements to use preferential tariff benefits of FTA. For example, it is required for firms to fulfil the origin criteria and direct transportation principles. This study is designed to provide important factors determining reliability of FTA Origin Certificate. In specific, characteries of firm(trade experience, professional expertise), country (FTA participation, economic development) and product(processing level, value pricing) are investigated as determinants of how trust FTA origin certificate. According to the theoretical foundation and previous studies, this study made 6 hypotheses. SEM(Structural Equation Modeling) was used to test empirically the hypothesized relationships among variables. The empirical findings show that trade experience, professional expertise and FTA participation are important determinants. In other words, firms can trust more FTA Origin Certificate by trading partners with more trading experiences and professional expertises located in countries where participate actively in FTA.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that affect the degree of export intensity of Korean venture businesses, and to analyze the effect of export intensity on corporate performance. We use 1,970 firm data (from Venture Business Survey by Small & Medium Business Administration) and analyze the possible factors of the CEO characteristics, the corporate characteristics, and the environmental factors. Our analysis shows that Korean venture business' CEO characteristics, such as his/her doctoral degree and marketing work experiences, increase their export intensity statistically significantly, while their age does not. In addition, the companies who outsource their products have a higher export intensity, and, as the firm age increases, the export intensity decreases significantly. It is also analyzed that, as the number of export regions or FDI regions increases, their export intensity goes higher. However, firms' higher level of internationalization does not bring higher performance of the venture firms, while it does significantly for the venture firms that are older than 10 years. The result implies that CEO's education or work experiences and strategic approaches are important for corporate globalization, and that it takes time for globalizing venture firms to be able to garner profits from their global investments.
Over the past 20 years new and small firms have been identified as significant components of economic strategies for job and wealth creation. Implicit in these strategies has been the search for policies which will increase the supply of new firms, and will encourage established firms' growth. Yet the majority firms spend the whole of their economic life within the small firm sector. The aim of this paper is to suggest a multidimensional approach to the understanding of the comparative characteristics of the small firm by providing evidence as to the factors which describe firms of different sizes, regions and industries. And I discuss in the context of policy options for regional economic development in Korea. The results from the analyses are summarized as follows. The size of the small firms in the sample measured in terms of both number of employees and sales revenue are characterized by regions, export performance and R&D. There is also some indication that growing firms may develop more complex environment. These results are based upon a multi-dimensional analysis of the strategic profile of a sample of small firms using KIS. From this observation of the firms during the data collection period, this is a conclusion that I find intuitively appealing.
The purpose of this study is to have a main change of korea logistics industry analysis and take in the whole situation and the characteristics about a logistics firms. In korean logistics industry, The rate of a carriage is among the low-level as compared with the increasingly high prices for diesel. besides, a national logistics cost and the sales in the transportation industry has increased steadily. On the other hand, the number of trucks and transfer companies has decreased steadily. This change is attributed to expansion of logistics firm size through the limit on a raise in the number of trucks and introduction of a direct consignment system. But medium and small logistics firm size is dwindling in numbers. In the meantime, 2PL since early 2000s has rapidly rose as powerful players in logistics industry by a strong Support of the parent companies. Government and academia have long noted the limit and problems of 2PL system and emphasize on the necessity of activating the 3PL system. So this study divided broadly into two groups that the primary characteristics of korea logistics industry are 2PL and 3PL. Through the results of this study, the management and financial perspectives mean that there is a considerable difference between 2PL and 3PL.

The purpose of this study is to examine the geographical distribution and the clustering characteristics as an industrial cluster in order to provide alternative fundamental data for the preparation of the policies to facilitate the development of the Green Energy Industry. The main source of the data in this study is the outcome of a survey conducted to the firms and environment specialist from June 21st, 2010 to July 23rd, 2010. The Green Energy related companies in Daegyeong region are clustered around Pohang and Gumi, Gyeongbuk, and Dalseo District of Daegu Metropolitan City. The core element of the sustainability of the Green Energy Industry in the region is the inducement of the large-scale corporate presence in the region as well as the technical and geographical proximity. That is, the fact that there are sister companies established by the large scale corporate Daegyeong region as they have chosen this field for their new drive for growth. The major location factors are proximity, higher quality expectations from the local demands, technical availability, and competition with other companies of the same industry in the region, rather than the availability of the raw material. And the choke points for these companies are the financial support of R&D and the policy support of specialist training. The policy to facilitate the development of the industry in question in Daegyeong region, therefore, should shift from its previous focuses on infrastructure building and taxation benefits to financial supports for the technical research, human resource development in response to the needs of the companies. Also, programs to support the proficiency training for the already-hired work forces and development of new policies for the Green Energy Industry are needed to be introduced for the development of the Green Energy Industry in Daegyeong region.

There are a few difference by types of firm-business, but, on the whole, the princepal location factors of venture firms are accessibility of research institute and university, easy information availability, and use of moderate land. In regard to networks with client firms, the venture firms determine whether to transfer. This paper aims to identify determinants of entrepreneurial intentions among college students of a university in Daejeon. We have used a revised Entrepreneurial Intention Questionnaire including personal traits, demographic characteristics, the three factors of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), motivations to startup and planned startup time, and entrepreneurial intentions. The analysis shows that there are strongly significant and positive relationships between the three TPB factors and entrepreneurial intentions of college students. In addition, students' motivations to create a firm such as independence and self-achievement have a positive and significant effect on their entrepreneurial intentions, while the students who want to start their business right after their graduation have significantly higher entrepreneurial intentions than those who want to create a firm after doing a salaried job. Furthermore, students whose parents have created or operated a firm have no significant difference from others, and parents' startup business type are significantly different from their sons and daughters' interested areas of business.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) endeavor to overcome the adverse resource conditions and secure competitive advantage through technological innovation capability. Prior studies have focused on the overall or specific dimensions of technological innovation capability, and examined their performance impact. However, there has been less scholarly attention on the dynamic characteristics such as the relative importance of technological innovation capability or its performance impact at the different growth stages of a firm. In this vein, this study investigates the relationship between SME innovation capability and innovation performance at each growth stages of a firm. Based on the empirical analysis of manufacturing SMEs in Korea, we found that all dimensions of technological innovation capability had positive effects on innovation performance. However, each dimension of technological innovation capability had different effect on innovation performance by the growth stages. The planning capability can improve innovation performance at the growth and maturity stages. Manufacturing capability can have positive effect on innovation performance at the maturity stage. Both of new product development capability and commercialization capability contribute to innovation performance at all of the growth stages. This study suggests the guidelines for enhancing technological innovation capability at the different growth stages of SMEs. It also provides policy implications for the design and operation of growth-stage specific programs. Finally, the limitations of the research and future research directions are presented.
This paper formulates a monopolistic competition model by incorporating Leontief product function into Dixit and Stigliz model to analyze and compare the effects of two environmental policy instruments-fuel efficiency regulation and environmental tax-on a market which reflects characteristics of international vehicle market. As expected, both policy instruments raise equilibrium market prices. The effect of fuel efficiency regulation on firm output, the number of firms, and industry output, however, depends on three determinants-the increasing rate of the ratio of consumer expenditure to the income, the increasing rate of fixed cost, and the increasing rate of marginal cost. On the other hand, the imposition of the specific environmental tax reduces the firm output, but does not influence the number of firms. If these two instruments are assumed to lead to the same increasing rate of marginal costs, the environmental tax reduces the firm output as well as the industry output more than the fuel efficiency regulation. And it will induce more firms to exit the market than the fuel efficiency regulation if the increasing rate of the ratio of consumer expenditure to the income is larger than the increasing rate of fixed cost.
