Background: Fire service workers often implement multiple duties in the emergency conditions, with such duties being mostly conducted in various ambient temperatures. Methods: The aim of the current study was to assess the firefighters' physiological responses, information processing, and working memory prior to and following simulated firefighting activities in three different hot environments. Seventeen healthy male firefighters performed simulated firefighting tasks in three separate conditions, namely (1) low heat (LH; $29-31^{\circ}C$, 55-60% relative humidity), (2) moderate heat (MH; $32-34^{\circ}C$, 55-60% relative humidity), and (3) severe heat (SH; $35-37^{\circ}C$, 55-60% relative humidity). It took about 45-50 minutes for each firefighter to finish all defined firefighting activities and the paced auditory serial addition test (PASAT). Results: At the end of all the three experimental conditions, heart rate (HR) and tympanic temperature (TT) increased, while PASAT scores as a measure of information processing performance decreased relative to baseline. HR and TT were significantly higher at the end of the experiment in the SH ($159.41{\pm}4.25beats/min$; $38.22{\pm}0.10^{\circ}C$) compared with the MH ($156.59{\pm}3.77beats/min$; $38.20{\pm}0.10^{\circ}C$) and LH ($154.24{\pm}4.67beats/min$; $38.17{\pm}0.10^{\circ}C$) conditions (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in PASAT scores between LH and MH (p > 0.05). Nonetheless, there was a measurable difference in PASAT scores between LH and SH (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These consequences demonstrate that ambient temperature is effective in raising the physiological responses following firefighting activities. It is therefore argued that further increase of ambient temperature can impact firefighters' information processing and working memory during firefighting activity.
The work breakdown structure and the precedence relations by work activity are very important because they are the basic data for estimating the construction duration in the construction work. However, there is no standard to accurately estimate the construction duration since the size of the school facilities construction is smaller than the general construction work. Therefore, some schools are unable to open in March or September and the delay of the construction duration can cause damage to the students. To solve this problem, this study developed a work breakdown structure of school facilities construction work and analyzed the precedence relations by work activities. The work breakdown structure of the school facilities construction is composed of three steps. The operations corresponding to level 1 and level 2 are as follows. (1) 2 preparatory work categories; preparation period and temporary construction. (2) 17 architectural work categories; temporary construction, foundation & pile work, reinforced concrete work, steel roof work, brick work, plaster work, tile work, stone work, waterproof construction, wood work, interior construction, floor work, metal work, roof work, windows construction, glazing work and paint construction. (3) 7 mechanic and fire work categories; outside trunk line work, plumbing work, air-conditioning equipment work, machine room work, city gas plumbing work, sanitation facilities and inspection & test working. (4) 4 civil work categories; wastewater work, drainage work, pavement work and other work. (5) 1 landscaping work categories; planting work. The work breakdown structure was derived from interviews with experts based on the milestones and detailed statements of existing school facilities. The analysis of precedence relations by school facilities work activity utilized PDM(Precedence Diagramming Method)which does not need a dummy and the relations were applied using FS(Finish to Start), FF(Finish to Finish), SS(Start to Start), SF(Start to Finish). The analysis of this study shows that if one work activity is delayed, the entire construction duration may be delayed because the majority of the works are FS relations. Therefore, it is necessary to use the Lag at the appropriate time to estimate the standard construction duration of the school facility construction. Lag is a term used only in the PDM method and it is used to define the relationship between the predecessor and the successor in creating the network milestone. And it means the delay time applied to the two work activities. The results of this study can reasonably estimate the standard construction duration of school facilities and it will contribute to the quality of the school facilities construction.

Water pipes are important facilities and consist of pipes of various specifications and materials. The annual average number of earthquakes in Korea is steadily increasing. Therefore, in case of the water pipe, it is estimated necessary to prepare for earthquakes. Damages to the water pipe by the earthquake can cause problems such as water supply and fire suppression, and cause damage to life and property. In Korea, however, it is difficult to find examples of seismic performance evaluation of water pipes based on experimental study. Damage to the water pipes by the earthquake is caused by the displacement-controlled behavior of the ground which is the liquifaction and fault lines. Especially, The damage to the water pipes by the earthquake is concentrated on the joint of the pipe. In particular, piping less than 200mm in diameter was found to be dangerous. Thus, in this study, the seismic and settlement performance of iPVC buried water pipes with fixed joints with a clamp of 150mm was evaluated with a test approach.

Dispite the fact that our military has outwardly made notable accomplishments such as the development of weapon systems like tanks, self-propelled artillery, and missiles, there has been a lack of attention to producing weapon effectiveness data that suggests a standard as to what effects the developed weapons will demonstrate on the battlefield. For such reasons, most of the weapon effectiveness data utilizes JMEM data introduced by the United States and as for the rest of the data that cannot be acquired, respective branches create and utilize their own data through research. This research aims to develop a reliable methodology that can meet the requirements of the requesting branches in a short span of time and at a low cost by studying the existing weapon effectiveness data production methodologies such as that of JMEM. As a result I have developed a method that calculates the vulnerable area and the probability of kill of the weapon system that one wants to calculate by applying statistical technique and simulation technique based on weapon effectiveness data of similar weapon systems in JMEM and live test data.
This study was performed to analyze the physicochemical and sensory properties of Acanthopanacis cortex and Aralia elata according to their blanching conditions and thawing methods. In terms of their Hunter colors, the A. cortex and A. elata that were blanched without adding salt to them for 7 min and 4 min, respectively, had the highest L values. The chlorophyll content (148.7 mg%) of A. cortex that was blanched with 1% salt for 4 min was higher than those of the other samples, and the chlorophyll content of A. elata was 32.4 mg% when it was blanched for 4 min without salt addition. The sensory test results showed the highest overall preference for the sample that was blanched without salt for 4 min among all the samples. The Hunter color of A. cortex did not significantly differ with different thawing methods, but the value of A. elata that was thawed in a microwave oven was higher than those of the other samples. The chlorophyll contents of A. cortex and A. elata that were thawed in a microwave oven were the highest among all the samples. As for the overall preference for the samples according to the thawing method, A. cortex and A. elata scored highest in the case of thawing at $25^{\circ}C$ and in a microwave oven, respectively.
In structural engineering practice, understanding the performance of composite columns under extreme loading conditions such as high-rise bulding, long span and heavy loads is essential to accuratly predicting of material responses under severe loads such as fires or earthquakes. Hitherto, the combined effect of partial axial loads and subsequent elevated temperatures on the performance of hollow steel column filled fly ash concrete have not been widely investigated. Comprehensive test was carried out to investigate the effect of elevated temperatures on partial axially loaded square hollow steel column filled fly ash concrete as reported in this paper. Four batches of hollow steel column filled fly ash concrete ( 30 percent replacement of fly ash), (HySC) and normal concrete (CFHS) were subjected to four different load levels, nf of 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% based on ultimate column strength. Subsequently, all batches of the partially damage composite columns were exposed to transient elevated temperature up to 250℃, 450℃ and 650℃ for one hour. The overall stress - strain relationship for both types of composited columns with different concrete fillers were presented for each different partial load levels and elevated temperature exposure. Results show that CFHS column has better performance than HySC at ambient temperature with 1.03 relative difference. However, the residual ultimate compressive strength of HySC subjected to partial axial load and elevated temperature exposure present an improvement compared to CFHS column with percentage difference in range 1.9% to 18.3%. Most of HySC and CFHS column specimens failed due to local buckling at the top and middle section of the column caused by concrete crushing. The columns failed due to global buckling after prolong compression load. After the compression load was lengthened, the columns were found to fail due to global buckling except for HySC02.

This study examines the bending behavior of lap-spliced ultra-high-strength fiber-reinforced concrete members and evaluates the safety of the design codes for ultra-high-strength fiber-reinforced concrete structures. An experiment on a total of six beams was performed. The main variables were the fiber-inclusion and the lap-spliced length at the center of the beams. The steel fibers in a volume fraction of 2% were used, and the lap-splice lengths were determined to be 8db and 16db. As a result of the test, the specimens not reinforced with fiber lost abrupt load-bearing capacity at the lap region and did not experience yielding of the reinforcing bar. In the case of fiber-reinforced concrete, if a lap-splice length of 16db is secured, the yielding of the main reinforcing bar can be experienced, and appropriate flexural strength can be expressed. Based on the experimental results of this study, as a result of reviewing the lap-splice length calculation formulas of the current design standards and the ultra-high-strength concrete structural design recommendations, it was found that all of them were evaluated conservatively.

To study how illuminance affects cognitive ability of the elderly, the elderly's EEG, concentration, HRV and vibra image were measured in a test room with temperature $25[^{\circ}C]$, relative humidity 50[RH%] and air flow speed 0.02[m/sec] by varying illuminance to 100[lux], 300[lux], 600[lux], 1000[lux] and 1500[lux]. Ten active elderly males were selected as subjects. Experiment condition was fixed as 1met of activity amount where the subject is seated and relaxed with cloth amount of 0.7clo. As a result, 1000[lux] was found out to be the most pleasant illuminance for the elderly, because $M{\beta}$ increased by 66.35%, and $S{\alpha}$ increased by 31.57% when the elderly was under 1000[lux] of illuminance. Also, concentration under 1000[lux] increased by 8.83% compared to 100[lux], and the pattern of concentration maintained uniformly. SDNN increased by 74.94% under 1000[lux] compared to 100[lux]. Nervousness decreased by 97.23% under 1000[lux] compared to 100[lux]. Moreover, HRT notably increased and aggression remarkably decreased under illuminance of 1000[lux]. Thus, based on the fact that comfort, concentration and heart stability of the elderly reach the highest under 1000[lux], it is determined that the illuminance has to be considered foremost in designing the elderly's welfare facilities to raise their safety and level of independence.

The study conducted an experiment in which residual aggregate and polypropylene fibers are mixed in concrete, and an experiment in which granite and polypropylene fibers are mixed. Two types of experiments, in particular, changed the amount of polypropylene fibers, and examined the mechanical properties of slump, compressive strength, tensile strength and the like. To establish a light and easy-to-use material for landscape construction and packaging material development by comparing two kinds of experimental results, comparing and analyzing residual aggregate as experimental materials and materials using granite soil to prevent partial destruction due to cracks in drying shrinkage. The more the amount of the PP fibers increases in concrete, the more the volume of the PP fibers increases, the less the slump is determined. As a result of the compressive strength, the cast-down earth concrete is measured to be about 59% to 71% of the concrete strength. As the amount of PP fibers mixed in increased, the compression strength showed a relative decrease. As a result of tensile strength, it is found that the granite concrete is about 68-67% of concrete tensile strength. It was found that the compression strength decreased as the amount of PP fibers mixed in concrete or fire-gant concrete was increased. Then, when polypropylene fibers are mixed in the concrete and the concrete, it is found that tensile strength is increased. By analyzing these results, a fixed amount of PP fiber is mixed in the concrete mixed with the granite soil and utilized for various structures in the field of landscape construction or materials related to packaging, the prevention and improvement effect of the structure is determined.

Owing to the increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs), appropriate management of their waste batteries is required urgently for scrapped vehicles or for addressing battery aging. With respect to technological developments, data-driven diagnosis of waste EV batteries and management technologies have drawn increasing attention. Moreover, robot-based automatic dismantling technologies, which are seemingly interesting, require industrial verifications and linkages with future battery-related database systems. Among these, it is critical to develop and disseminate various advanced battery diagnosis and assessment techniques to improve the efficiency and safety/environment of the recirculation of waste batteries. Incorporation of lithium-related chemical substances in the public pollutant release and transfer register (PRTR) database as well as in-depth risk assessment of gas emissions in waste EV battery combustion and their relevant fire safety are some of the necessary steps. Further research and development thus are needed for optimizing the lifecycle management of waste batteries from various aspects related to data-based diagnosis/classification/disassembly processes as well as reuse/recycling and final disposal. The idea here is that the data should contribute to clean design and manufacturing to reduce the environmental burden and facilitate reuse/recycling in future production of EV batteries. Such optimization should also consider the future technological and market trends.
