  • The seal plays a role in preventing oil leakage when the lip and the rotating shaft come into contact with the fluid and air pressure. Recently, micro dimples or micro pockets are processed and used on the lubrication surfaces of thrust bearings, mechanical bearings, and piston rings. Compared to a smooth surface, micro dimples reduce friction and increase the life of parts. This paper analyzed various kinds of micro dimple shapes on the sealing surface, i.e. circle, rectangle, triangle, and trapezoid. For this purpose, Introduced the design of experiments to work out a micro dimple configuration, unlikely to be damaged from cracks and low in contact stress. As a result, the triangular dimple showed the best results. Optimal factors were dimple size 0.15 mm, dimple depth 0.0383 mm, dimple density 40%, and the maximum equivalent stress was 9.1455 MPa, and the maximum contact pressure was 9.6612 MPa. This paper analyzed the optimal shape of dimples by finite element analysis. As a research project, experiments and comparative analysis of micro dimple shapes are needed.

  • A valued field (K, ν) is called defectless if each of its finite extensions is defectless. In [1], Aghigh and Khanduja posed a question on defectless extensions of henselian valued fields: "if every simple algebraic extension of a henselian valued field (K, ν) is defectless, then is it true that (K, ν) is defectless?" They gave an example to show that the answer is "no" in general. This paper explores when the answer to the mentioned question is affirmative. More precisely, for a henselian valued field (K, ν) such that each of its simple algebraic extensions is defectless, we investigate additional conditions under which (K, ν) is defectless.

  • In this paper we obtain a new structure of a k-annihilating ideal hypergraph of a reduced ring R, by determine the order and size of a hypergraph 𝒜𝒢k(R). Also we describe and count the degree of every nontrivial ideal of a ring R containing in vertex set 𝒜(R, k) of a hypergraph 𝒜𝒢k(R). Furthermore, we prove the diameter of 𝒜𝒢k(R) must be less than or equal to 2. Finally, we determine the minimal dominating set of a k-annihilating ideal hypergraph of a ring R.

  • The motivation for this study comes from a question posed by I.N. Herstein in the Israel Journal of Mathematics in 1978. Specifically, let D be a division ring with center F. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that every quasinormal subgroup of the multiplicative group of D, which is radical over some proper division subring, is central if one of the following conditions holds: (i) D is weakly locally finite; (ii) F is uncountable; or (iii) D is the Mal'cev-Neumann division ring.

  • A powerlock is used to transmit torque between two shafts, to protect important equipment from overloads, and to compensate for the misalignment of assembled shafts. In this study, the effect of the shapes of the inner rings, bolt-fastening force, and friction on power transmission performance of powerlocks is investigated. Finite element analysis and experiments were conducted for two cases, and the analysis results were validated. Analyses were carried out for inner rings of various shapes and for various values of bolt-fastening force and friction coefficient. The main factors that affect the torque transmission performance were investigated based on the analysis results.

  • Current climate conditions along with advances in technology make further design and verification methods for structural strength and reliability of wind turbine towers imperative. Along with the growing interest for "green" energy, the wind energy sector has been developed tremendously the past decades. To this end, the improvement of wind turbine towers in terms of structural detailing and performance result in more efficient, durable and robust structures that facilitate their wider application, thus leading to energy harvesting increase. The wind tower industry is set to expand to greater heights than before and tapered steel towers with a circular cross-section are widely used as more capable of carrying heavier loads. The present study focuses on the improvement of the structural response of steel wind turbine towers, by means of internal stiffening. A thorough investigation of the contribution of stiffening rings to the overall structural behavior of the tower is being carried out. These stiffening rings are placed along the tower height to reduce local buckling phenomena, thus increasing the buckling strength of steel wind energy towers and leading the structure to a behavior closer to the one provided by the beam theory. Additionally to ring stiffeners, vertical stiffening schemes are studied to eliminate the presence of short wavelength buckles due to bending. For the purposes of this research, finite element analysis is applied in order to describe and predict in an accurate way the structural response of a model tower stiffened by internal stiffeners. Moreover, a parametric study is being performed in order to investigate the effect of the stiffeners' number to the functionality of the aforementioned stiffening systems and the improved structural behavior of the overall wind converter.

  • For a finite or an infinite set X, let $2^X$ be the power set of X. A class of simple graph, called strong Boolean graph, is defined on the vertex set $2^X{\setminus}\{X,{\emptyset}\}$, with M adjacent to N if $M{\cap}N={\emptyset}$. In this paper, we characterize the annihilating-ideal graphs $\mathbb{AG}(R)$ that are blow-ups of strong Boolean graphs, complemented graphs and preatomic graphs respectively. In particular, for a commutative ring R such that AG(R) has a maximum clique S with $3{\leq}{\mid}V(S){\mid}{\leq}{\infty}$, we prove that $\mathbb{AG}(R)$ is a blow-up of a strong Boolean graph if and only if it is a complemented graph, if and only if R is a reduced ring. If assume further that R is decomposable, then we prove that $\mathbb{AG}(R)$ is a blow-up of a strong Boolean graph if and only if it is a blow-up of a pre-atomic graph. We also study the clique number and chromatic number of the graph $\mathbb{AG}(R)$.

  • Elastomeric O-rings have been the most common seals due to their excellent sealing capacity, and availability in costs and sizes. One of the critical applications of O-ring seals is solid rocket motor joint seal where the operating hot gas must be sealed during the combustion. This has long been a design issue to avoid the system failure. For laterally constrained, squeezed and pressurized condition, deformed shape of O-ring was measured by computed tomography method and CCD laser sensor, compared with numerical calculations. As clearance gap changes, sealing performance had been evaluated on peak contact stresses at top, bottom and side contact surfaces. As clearance gap increases, peak contact stresses and contact widths in top and side contact surfaces increase, and the asymmetry of stress distributions is promoted due to pressure increase. It is suggested that peak stress of bottom contact surface can be approximated by simple superposition of peak ones due to squeeze and pressure. Under pressurized condition, sealing performance is dependent on not peak stresses of bottom and side contact surfaces but that of top.

  • This paper presents design safety analysis of pressure vessels. The gas pressure and thermal loads are applied to the pressure vessel simultaneously. In this study, ASME Sec. VIII Div. 2 code was accepted for the safety design of high-pressure vessel. And this result was analyzed using a coupled thermal-mechanical FEM analysis technique. The FEM computed result shows that ASME design code may not guarantee for combined loads of high gas pressure and thermal loads. And solid pressure vessel may be safe compared to other pressure vessels with supporting rings round the cylinder body.

  • The aim of this paper is to study the class of ${\Lambda}$-constacyclic codes of length $2p^s$ over the finite commutative chain ring ${\mathcal{R}}_a=\frac{{\mathbb{F}_{p^m}}[u]}{{\langle}u^a{\rangle}}={\mathbb{F}}_{p^m}+u{\mathbb{F}}_{p^m}+{\cdots}+u^{a-1}{\mathbb{F}}_{p^m}$, for all units ${\Lambda}$ of ${\mathcal{R}}_a$ that have the form ${\Lambda}={\Lambda}_0+u{\Lambda}_1+{\cdots}+u^{a-1}{\Lambda}_{a-1}$, where ${\Lambda}_0,{\Lambda}_1,{\cdots},{\Lambda}_{a-1}{\in}{\mathbb{F}}_{p^m}$, ${\Lambda}_0{\neq}0$, ${\Lambda}_1{\neq}0$. The algebraic structure of all ${\Lambda}$-constacyclic codes of length $2p^s$ over ${\mathcal{R}}_a$ and their duals are established. As an application, this structure is used to determine the Rosenbloom-Tsfasman (RT) distance and weight distributions of all such codes. Among such constacyclic codes, the unique MDS code with respect to the RT distance is obtained.
