  • Binary sequences of period $2^n-1$ are widely used in many areas of engineering and sciences. Some well-known applications include coding theory, code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communications, and stream cipher systems. In this paper we analyze different solutions to $x^5+bx^3+b^{2^m}x^2+1=0$ over $GF(2^n)$. The number of different solutions determines frequencies of cross-correlations of nonlinear binary sequences generated by $d=3{\cdot}2^m-2$, n=2m, m=4k($k{\geq}2$). Also we give an algorithm for determination of number of different solutions to the equation.

  • The use of high-strength aluminum alloys for ship and offshore structure generally has many benefits compared to the structural steels. These materials are used widely in a variety of fields, especially in the hull and deck of high speed craft, box-girder of bridges, deck and side plates of offshore structure. The structural weight can be reduced using these aluminum structure, which can enable high speed The characteristics of stress-strain relationship of aluminum structure are fairly different from the steel one, because of the influence of Heat Affected Zone(HAZ) by the welding processing. The HAZ of aluminum is much wider than that of steel with its high heat conductivity. In this paper, the ultimate strength characteristics of aluminum stiffened panel subjected to axial loading, such as the relationship between extent of HAZ and the behavior of buckling/ultimate strength, are investigated through the Finite Element Analysis with varying its range.

  • Large linear span makes difficult to predict, so this study is important to the security and code system. It has been studied about the non-linear binary sequences having low correlation values and large linear span. In this paper we analyze the linear span of $S^r_a(t)=Tr^m_1\{[Tr^n_m(a{\alpha}^t+{\alpha}^{dt})]^r\}$ ($a{\in}GF(2^m)$, $0{\leq}t{\leq}2^m-2$) where n=2m and $d=2^{m-2}(2^m+3)$.

  • The magneto-rheological fluid expresses different cohesiveness according to the strength of the external electric current. The magneto-rheological fluid damper, which uses such characteristics of the fluid, generates shear force due to the fluid's cohesiveness. The core can be said to determine the magneto-rheological fluid damper's performance. This study uses the finite element analysis to compare the performance of different electromagnetic forces, which are affected by the shapes of the coil, and thus to find the optimum design for the core. In addition, as a step to construct a high-efficient damper, we suggest a type of damper that can control multiple coils and compares the performance of this damper and that of the standard damper by comparing the performance of their electro-magnetic fields.

  • Because of power consumption increase, global warming, and limitation of installation, not only high reliability and interruption capability but also compact and light power apparatuses are needed. In this paper, E field calculation and experiment were processed to identify the influence of the shape of end shield and gap distance. It is expected that the results of FEM simulation and experiments could be the basic data to develop VI. the results of FEM simulation and experiments are as following. Firstly, maximum E fields were compared by means of finite element method as a function of the shape of end shield. 3 types of models were used to analyze maximum E field of each model and the influence of shape of shield could be identified. As a result, proposed L type shield could reduce the maximum E field by 20%. Secondly, the influence of the gap distance between end shields on E field was analyzed. As the gap distance become short the gap distance between inner walls of ceramic also become short. And the maximum E field concentrated on inner wall of ceramic finally increased. Thirdly, the experiment was conducted by fabricating each prototype. As a result, no creepage occurred in shieldless model. In other words, creepage occurred in the shield-installed models. And creepage inception voltages were different from each other because of the difference of maximum E field. Fourthly, The equation that shows relation between calculated E field and measured creepage inception voltage was proposed as a result of FEM analysis and experiment. It is concluded that when designing VI this equation could be important data to reduce time and cost by identifying indirectly the optimal gap distance and the shape of shield required to prevent creepage.

  • The design of PN(Pseudo Noise) sequences with good cross-correlation properties is important for many research areas in communication systems. Also analyses of cross-correlation frequency between designed sequences have been researched. In this paper we analyze of cross-correlation distribution and properties of non-linear binary sequences family $S^r=\{Tr^m_1\{[Tr^n_m(a{\alpha}^t+{\alpha}^{dt}]^r\}{\mid}a{\in}GF(2^m),0{\leq}t < 2^n-1\}$, where $gcd(r,2^m-1)=1$ with 5-valued cross-correlation.

  • Cross-correlation functions of maximal period sequences have been studied for decades. In this paper, we find the cross-correlation values of non-linear sequences $S_a^r(t)=Tr_1^m\{[Tr_m^n(a{\alpha}^t+{\alpha}^{dt})]^r\}$ having the maximal period $2^n-1$ for Niho type decimation $d=2^{m-2}(2^m+3)$, where n=2m. In particular, we call d Niho type decimation in case $d{\equiv}1(mod\;2^m-1)$. And we analyze the cross-correlation distributions of $S_a^r(t)$ when the phase shift ${\tau}=(2^m+1)k(0{\leq}k{\leq}2^m-2)$ and provide experiment results.

  • A numerical technique is developed for the solution of fully developed turbulent recirculating flow in the passage of variable area using the non-orthogonal coordinate transformation. In the numerical analysis, primitive pressure-velocity finite difference equations were solved by SIMPLER algorithm with 2-equation turbulence model and algebraic stress model (ASM). QUICK scheme on the differencing of convective terms which is free from the inaccuracies of numerical diffusion has been applied to the variable grids and the results compared with those from HYBRID scheme. In order to test the effect of streamline curvatures on turbulent diffusion Lee and Choi streamline curvature correction model which has been obtained by modifying the Leschziner and Rodi's model is testes. The ASM was also employed and the results are compared to those from another turbulence model. The results show that difference of convective differencing schemes and turbulence models give significant differences in the prediction of velocity fields in the expansion region and outlet region of the combustor, however show little differences in the parallel flow region.

  • The concrete gravity dam is one of the most important parts of the nation's infrastructure. Besides the benefits, the dam also has some potentially catastrophic disasters related to the life of citizens directly. During the lifetime of service, some degradations in a dam may occur as consequences of operating conditions, environmental aspects and deterioration in materials from natural causes, especially from dynamic loads. Cumulative Absolute Velocity (CAV) plays a key role to assess the operational condition of a structure under seismic hazard. In previous researches, CAV is normally used in Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) fields, but there are no particular criteria or studies that have been made on dam structure. This paper presents a method to calculate the limitation of CAV for the Bohyeonsan Dam in Korea, where the critical Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) is estimated from twelve sets of selected earthquakes based on High Confidence of Low Probability of Failure (HCLPF). HCLPF point denotes 5% damage probability with 95% confidence level in the fragility curve, and the corresponding PGA expresses the crucial acceleration of this dam. For determining the status of the dam, a 2D finite element model is simulated by ABAQUS. At first, the dam's parameters are optimized by the Minitab tool using the method of Central Composite Design (CCD) for increasing model reliability. Then the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is used for updating the model and the optimization is implemented from the selected model parameters. Finally, the recorded response of the concrete gravity dam is compared against the results obtained from solving the numerical model for identifying the physical condition of the structure.

  • The IR Signature and radiative base heating from an aircraft plume have been important factors for aircraft survivability in modern battle fields. In order to enhance the aircraft survivability and reduce the base heating, infrared signatures emitted from an aircraft exhaust plume should be determined. In this work, therefore, IR signatures and radiative base heating characteristics are examined in the plume exhausted from the aircraft with operating at altitude of 5km in M=0.9 and 1.6, respectively. As a result, it is found that the particular wavelength IR signature has high spectral characteristics because of $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ gases in the plume, and the radiative heat flux coming into the base plane increases with higher Mach number and shorter distance.
