Financial Management Patterns and Financial Knowledge of College Students (대학생의 재무관리행동 유형별 특성 및 재무지식 수준)

  • This study identified financial management patterns of college students, and compared socioeconomic characteristics among different groups of financial management patterns. Also, the study examined the level of financial knowledge of college students, and compared it among the groups of financial management patterns. Data fur this study were from a questionnaire completed by 4-year college students (n=364), and were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, chi-square test, and ANOVA. The findings of this study were as follows: First, the financial management patterns were categorized by four groups: rational management group, future-oriented group, active management group, and present-oriented group. Secondly, younger students were more likely to be in the present-oriented group, while older students were likely to be in the future-oriented or active management group. Male students were likely to be the active managers, but female were likely to be the rational managers. Students' income was higher for future-oriented or active management groups, and their part-time jobs and their experiences of financial education were also significant variables. Thirdly, the average score of college students' financial knowledge was 49.9 on a 100 point basis. The part of financial assets and investment had only 47 points. The group of rational managers and active managers received higher points than the other groups.

  • This study was performed to analyze a path model that investigated the relations among financial statements financial management and financial satisfaction of urban households. For this purpose conceptual framework based on the system theory was suggested. Empirical test's results showed some evidence has been provided that supported that conceptual frame-work. The level of living and gap between the level and standard of living measure were vital in the model investigating financial management and financial satisfaction, There were statistically significant direct effects of them on financial management however there were many indirect effects that mediate through them as well Also The financial management was accepted in the model investigating financial satisfaction. There was statistically significant direct effect on it and indirect effect that mediated through the financial management.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the financial education needs of college students and how financial education affected their perceived financial management problems. The results indicated that the need for personal financial management of the students was relatively high and that students were interested in various topics withinpersonal financial management. Formal financial education was found to have a positive impact on students' financial management behavior by reducing the probability of having problems with managing financial affairs. In addition, students' use of credit cards played a significant role in predicting problems with managing financial affairs. Several implications based on the findings were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate bases on the employed wives’family financial management types according to family financial management types according to family financial management project and performance. And it’s related variables will provide the basic information for the program which aids in the improvement of the employed wives’family financial management skills and family financial counseling. The major findings were as follows: 1) The total mean score of respondent’s family financial management was 3.54 out of 5. And the mean score of project and performance was respectively 3.42 and 3.62. 2) Among family financial management types, effective type, project-centered type, performance-centered type, ineffective type were respectively 38.7%, 16.4%, 13.2%, 31.7%. 3) The family financial management type of the employed wives was affected by information utilization the degree of communication, type of occupation, and job attitudes.

  • This study attempts to explore the effects of personal, household, and environmental factors on household financial management in financial dimensions. Financial management behaviors are constructed with 5 dimensions : income, expenditure, debt, investment and risk management. The specific objectives of this study are : 1) to examine the level of the financial management behavior to the sub-dimensions. 2) to investigate the factors which influence on the level of financial management behavior to the dimensions. The sample consisted of 792 married women living in Seoul. The statistical methods used for analysis included Reliability, Frequencies, Percent, Mean, Standard Deviation, Multiple Regression Analysis. The major results can be summarized as following 1) Among the sub-dimensions, the score of risk management is the most high, 39.00. 2) There are statistically significant differences in the levels and factors which influence on the financial management behavior to the 5 dimensions.(Korean J of Human Ecology 2(l) : 12-24, 1999)

Development and Evaluation of Financial Management Education Program for College Students (대학생을 위한 재무관리교육 프로그램 개발 및 평가)

  • The purpose of this study were to develop a financial management educational program for college students and to evaluate the effect of this program. In order to achieve this aims, a fundamental work to select the educational contents was preceded with a survey of learners' needs, preceding studies. After choice of educational contents, learners' demands on how to manage the educational program was executed in advance. The participants in this study were 500 students, resulting in 460 with usable data. Second, reflection the above mentioned educational contents, a concrete financial management educational program was built. This program consists of 9 domains: financial planning, careers and income, consumer spending, credit use and Credit cards, Managing Taxes, investment planning, risk management and insurance, retirement and estate planning, contribution. The participants for this program implementation were 68 students. Third, to evaluate the effects of the financial management educational program, paired t-test was conducted in using the SPSS package. The result suggested that financial management educational program has a positive effect on financial knowledge, financial attitude and financial management behavior. Several implications based on the findings were suggested.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine levels of financial knowledge, to identify the financial education needs of college students, and to show how financial knowledge and education needs correlate. The results of this study indicated that the level of understanding of economy was the highest among the seven categories, whereas the overall level of financial knowledge was less than 50%. The need for financial education was relatively high in various topics of financial management, especially financial planning and savings. There was no significant relationship between knowledge level and educational needs except between financial planning and investment. Students who understand financial planning better want more financial education. College students in this study were not financially independent from their parents, receiving allowance and assistance in tuition payment, so their financial experiences were limited. Students who understood financial management showed greater need of financial education and had more financial experience. The findings in this study suggested that college should provide formal financial education as an elective course, which should include content related to financial planning and various financial products.

The Subjective Financial Well-Being Among Urban Households Based on a System's Approach (체계론적 관점에서 본 가정의 주관적 재정복지에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate causal relations of resources and demands, family financial management and subjective financial wee-being among urban households by applying a system's approach. The data were collected through the questionnaire whose respondent were 455 housewives in Seoul. The data were analyzed by various statistical methods such as Frequency. Percentile, ANOVA , F-test, T-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis. Path Analysis. The results of this research were as follows. 1) The level of subjective financial wee-being among urban households exceeded the middle level. It had significant differences according to resource variables such as age of housewife. education level of housewife, housewife's occupation, househead's occupation. per capita income, debt/net asset ratio, and according to demand variables such as aspiration, expectancy, perception of financial progress, relative deprivation. 2) The level of subjective financial well-being among urban households according to level of family financial management capability has significant differences. Therefore, the higher family financial management capability, the higher level of subjective financial well-being. 3) Among all variables affecting the subjective financial well-being among urban households. aspiration had the highest relative influence on the subjective financial well-being and per capita income, occupation of househead and family financial management variables were in this order. 4) Among all variables affecting the subjective financial well-being among urban households aspiration, occupation of househead, per capita income and finacial management variables had direct effect on subjective financial well-being . Besides housewife's education level, aspiration and per capita income had indirect effect on it through family financial management.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest implications that the level of sound financial management ability of university students could be raised, starting with the awareness that not only college students but also all financial consumers need high levels of financial management ability, such as knowledge and attitudes toward financial management, as economic conditions are in trouble in the aftermath of the ongoing Corona19. A survey was conducted on college students to achieve the purpose of the study. In relation to the research model set in this study based on the survey, financial management ability and financial self-efficacy as the independent variable, and financial management behavior as the dependent variable were selected to analyze the structural relationship according to the study model. The analysis shows that financial management ability had an effect on financial self-efficacy and financial management behavior. Based on these results, theoretical and policy implications were presented. Finally, the limitations of this study and future research directions were suggested.

  • The importance of cooperative financial management is expected to be able to encourage the needs of the community especially towards the supervision of cooperatives and human resources. The study was conducted aiming to determine the effect of human resources, financial attitudes, and coordination on cooperative financial management. Research with quantitative methods. The study was conducted with multiple regression methods, while the sampling technique was based on a random sample of samples with the data collection method using a survey method in the form of a questionnaire that was measured with a Likert scale. The method of determining the research sample is done by calculating the Slovin formula, determining the research sample of 166 cooperatives in Buleleng Regency, Bali Province. The results of the research prove that partial human resources have a significant positive effect on cooperative financial management, financial attitude variables have a significant positive effect on cooperative financial management and coordination variables have a significant positive effect on cooperative financial management. The results of this study can be stated that the better the financial management of cooperatives, better will be the impact on cooperative growth so that the need for more competent resources in cooperative management.
