균형충전을 위한 HR3P 금형 구조에서의 공정의 최적화 (Optimization of Processing on Filling Balance of the HR3P Mold Structure)

  • Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner system for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to accomplish filling balance between cavity to cavity during processing. However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalance has been observed. Filling imbalance could be decreased by modifying processing conditions such as injections rate, mold temperature, injection pressure, melt temperature that are related to shear, viscosity. In this study, a series of experiment was conducted to investigate filling imbalance variation when modifying runner layout and polymer and to determine which processing condition influences as the primary cause of filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner system. The filling imbalance was decreased up to result range of $3{\leq}DFI{\leq}8(%)$ by using a new runner system for balanced filling.

  • For mass production, usually injection mold has multi-cavity which is filled through geometrical balanced runner system. Despite geometrical balanced runner system, filling imbalances between cavity to cavity have always been observed. These filling imbalances are one of the most significant factors to affect quality of plastic parts. Filling imbalances are results from non-symmetrical shear rate distribution within melt when it flows through tile runner system. It has been possible to decrease filling imbalance by optimizing processing conditions, but it has not completely eliminated this phenomenon during injection molding processing. This paper presents a solution for these filling imbalances by using Runner Core pin (RC pin). The Runner Core pin which is developed in this study creates a symmetrical shear distribution within runner. As a result of using Runner Core pin, a remarkable improvement in reducing filling imbalances was confirmed.

Numerical analysis of injection molding for filling efficiency on ultrasonic process

  • In this study, we focus on the improvement of the filling efficiency in injection molding by application of ultrasonic vibration. While studies about the filling efficiency of typical filling processes in the injection molding have been widely performed, there have been only few studies about the filling efficiency of an ultrasonic process. The effect of the ultrasonic vibration is an important process condition, which influences the flow characteristics of polymer melt. This new condition even affects well-known injection conditions such as cavity pressure, injection temperature and mold temperature. For this study, we carried out a numerical analysis by appropriate modeling and analysis of the ultrasonic process in the filling process. To verify this numerical analysis, we compared the numerical results with the experimental data. Also, we analyzed the filling process in a thin cavity using this numerical analysis. To understand the flow characteristics of polymer melt in the ultrasonic process, we substituted real and complex vibration conditions with simplified and classified conditions according to the position of vibrating cavity surfaces and the phase difference between two opposing cavity surfaces. We also introduced MFR (melt flow ratio) as a new index to estimate the filling efficiency in the ultrasonic process.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the pulpal responses to acid etching of dentine. Total 72 class V cavaties' were prepared on the healthy permanent teeth from 6 dogs, and were divided into 4 groups. These were filled with filling materials after acid etching with each etchant for 1 min. Control group ; ZOE filling without acid etching. Group 1: Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling. Group 2: Drying with hot air and Zinc oxide-Eugenol cement filling. Group 3: Scotchbond application and silux filling. Group 4: Silux filling. The dogs were sacrificed after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks and 6 weeks following operation. The specimens were routinely prepared and stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin. Followings were the results obtained through microscopic examination. 1. There was mostly severe pulpal responses in case of Silux filling after acid etching of dentine. 2. The pulpal responses of Silux filling after acid etching and application of Scotch bond group were more severe compared to Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group, but less severe compared to Silux filling group after acid etching of dentine. 3. The pulpal responses of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group were similar to those of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling after drying with hot air group. 4. There was slight pulpal responses in early stage in case of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group, but recovered to normal state soon after.

  • Recently, the study for filling imbalance in thermoplastic polymer has gradually been increased. However, it is hard to find the researches for filling imbalance of thermoplastic elastomer(TPE). The experiment of filling imbalance was conducted for the three kinds of thermoplastic vulcanizes(TPVs) and PP polymer in the mold with geometrically balanced runner system(Unary Branch Type Runner System). In this experiment, the effects of the melt temperature, injection pressure and injection speed on the filling imbalance were investigated. There was also the imbalance in TPV injection molding process as well as in conventional injection molding with plastics. The tendency of filling imbalance in TPV injection molding specially decreased by taking place the hesitation of TPV melt.

Varietal Characteristics of Kernel Growth of Rice influenced by Different Temperature Regimes During Grain Filling

  • This experiment was conducted to know the characteristics of kernel growth as affected by various temperature regimes during grain filling using the varieties Hwaseongbyeo, Ilpumbyeo and Chucheongbyeo. The rice plants tested were grown in the natural condition at 1/5000a Wagner pots until flowering. After flowering, the rice plants were moved to controlled temperature conditions in a phytotron. The minimum/maximum daily temperature in the phytotron was controlled by 12/18, 15/21, 18/24, 21/27, and 24/$30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The grain weights were measured every three days after treatment. The mean daily kernel growth rate during active grain filling period showed different responses among varieties under various temperature regimes. The kernel growth rate of Chucheongbyeo was seriously reduced as temperature regimes were decreased. However, that of Ilpumbyeo was not influenced so critically. Ilpumbyeo showed some advantages in grain filling under low temperature regimes compared to Chucheongbyeo. The lag phase in grain filling of Chucheongbyeo was the longest among tested varieties, followed by Hwaseongbyeo under daily mean temperature regime of $15^{\circ}C$. Kernel weight of Ilpumbyeo increased fast in early grain filling phase under low temperature. This characteristic may be favorable for grain filling in temperate zone where the daily mean temperature is drastically dropped during grain filling period. Regression analysis with kernel growth rate and temperature showed the estimated critical low temperature for grain filling among varieties were $9^{\circ}C$, $12^{\circ}C$, $13^{\circ}C$ in Ilpumbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo and Chucheongbyeo, respectively. Under moderate temperature the duration of grain filling of Ilpumbyeo was longer than that of Chucheongbyeo. However, Under low temperature that of Ilpumbyeo was more favorable than Chucheongbyeo.

  • Injection molding is the one of the most important processes for mass production of plastic parts. Usually injection molds for mass production are constituted to multi-cavity runner system to manufacture the more parts at a time. Multi-cavity molds are designed to geometrically balanced runner system to uniformly fill to each cavity. But, when injection molding is performed using a mold with balanced runner system filling imbalances are occurred between the cavity to cavity. The previous studies by Beaumont at. all reported that filling imbalance occurred by thermal unbalance on the mold and viscosity variation of resins and so on. In this study, we conducted experiments in order to know the causes of filling imbalance for 3 plate type mold with 8 cavities. And we exhibited a new so called 4BF mold (4 plate type Balanced Filling Mold) to be possible filling balance. We conducted a experimental injection molding to verify the efficiency of the 4BF mold. In the results of the experiment, we could confirmed the balanced filling possibility of the 4BF mold.

In this study, we made an experiment and surveyed that are filling balanced variation according to molding condition with thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV).   • Filling of the tool die directly influences dimensional tolerances and density variation. To minimize the variations in filling, both within different sections of the cavity and from part to part, are of great importance for produce high quality P/M parts. Filling of the tool die is also one of the limiting factors in the productivity in powder pressing. By using aeration filling in combination with bonded powder mixes, both weight scatter and productivity can be improved. In this presentation results are presented showing the benefit of using aeration filling for different types of powders
