  • Recently intelligent characters in computer games have been an important element more and more because they continually stimulate gamers' interests. As a typical method for implementing such intelligent characters, neural networks have been used for training action patterns of opponent's characters and game rules. However, some of the game rules can be abruptly changed and action properties of garners in on-line game environments are quite different according to gamers. In this paper, we address how a neural network adapts to those environmental changes. Our adaptation solution includes two components: an individual adaptation mechanism and a group adaptation mechanism. With the individual adaptation algorithm, an intelligent character steadily checks its game score, assesses the environmental change with taking into consideration of the lastly earned scores, and initiates a new learning process when a change is detected. In multi-user games, including massively multiple on-line games, intelligent characters confront diverse opponents that have various action patterns and strategies depending on the gamers controlling the opponents. The group adaptation algorithm controls the birth of intelligent characters to conserve an equilibrium state of a game world by using a genetic algorithm. To show the performance of the proposed schemes, we implement a simple fighting action game and experiment on it with changing game rules and opponent characters' action patterns. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithms are able to make intelligent characters adapt themselves to the change.

  • This paper proposes a method to provide intelligence for characters in fighting action games by using a neural network. Each action takes several time units in general fighting action games. Thus the results of a character's action are not exposed immediately but some time units later. To design a suitable neural network for such characters, it is very important to decide when the neural network is taught and which values are used to teach the neural network. The fitness of a character's action is determined according to the scores. For learning, the decision causing the score is identified, and then the neural network is taught by using the score change, the previous input and output values which were applied when the decision was fixed. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, many experiments are executed on a simple action game (but very similar to the actual fighting action games) environment. The results show that the intelligent character trained by the proposed algorithm outperforms random characters by 3.6 times at most. Thus we can conclude that the intelligent character properly reacts against the action of the opponent. The proposed method can be applied to various games in which characters confront each other, e.g. massively multiple online games.

  • War-games using C4I systems have been used to improve the command ability of commanders and the fighting power of combat forces. During a war-game simulation, a commander makes a plan for the movement of a combat force and issues orders to the combat force according to the plan. If it is possible to minimize damages from the artillery of enemy forces and take the advantage position where is effective for attack/defense, we can hold a dominant position of the battlefield. Therefore, this papers proposes a genetic algorithm-based optimal path searching method. The proposed method creates an optimal path of a combat force by taking into consideration dangerous conditions of the battlefield in which the combat force is. This paper also shows the process of creating an optimal path by using a discrete event specification modeling and simulation method.

  • Some of the wargame simulators currently used in the Korean Army were developed by other countries, and do not adequately reflect the Korean Peninsula terrain and weapon systems. This implies that these war game simulators need to be calibrated with respect to the input parameters for properly assessing the effectiveness of the Korean weapon systems. In this paper, AWAM, a wargame simulator, is calibrated in terms of the time-based fighting power(FP). The FP data obtained from the Korea Combat Training Center(KCTC) are used as a reference, and the differences between the AWAM and KCTC FP data are calculated at certain points in time. Then, the Taguchi robust design method is adopted using the probabilities of hitting for the K-2 rifle as controllable input parameters. Two performance characteristics are used. One is the difference between the AWAM and KCTC FP data and the other is the score derived by grouping the difference data. For each case, optimal settings of the probabilities of hitting are determined such that the mean of each characteristic is close to 0 with its dispersion being as small as possible.

I would to access about it centering around directing viewpoint. of Christoper Nolan is evaluate as 'upgraded excellent action thriller'that have remarkable theme and excellent visual. Analysis of directing'll classify both contents and form. See about contents... theme of existential dilemma about the good and the evel, characters who is grew more powerful, and deeper than Batman series in old times. the fifth plot, especially dramatic plot by Joker's game, and various irony and motif. About form... efficient use of IMAX camera, prominence of action directing about car chase and fighting... better editing and music and art than former super hero series. The most important merit of is it's a philosophical theme. It is dipicted very seriously and successfully. First of all, the film has more advanced technique power and new directing style.

  • This paper proposes a method to learn action patterns of opponent characters for intelligent characters. For learning action patterns, intelligent characters learn the past actions as well as the current actions of opponent characters. Therefore, intelligent characters react more properly than ones without the knowledge on action patterns. In addition, this paper proposes a method to learn moving actions whose fitness is hard to evaluate. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we experiment with four repeated action patterns in a game similar to real games. The results show that intelligent characters learn the optimal actions for action patterns and react properly against to random action opponent characters. The proposed method can be applied to various games in which characters confront each other, e.g. massively multiple of line games.

  • This study is aimed to examine what school sports club activities mean to middle school students. To attain this objective, this study first investigated what kinds of peer culture school sports club activities form, and second, what kind of time school sports club is for the students. For the research method, a qualitative research method was employed combining in-depth interview and participatory observation. The results showed that first, the students were creating the peer culture of games, communication, and relaxation through school sports club activities. Though fighting sometimes, the boy students were really enjoying sports games with their friends according to their own rules. On the other hand, girls were enjoying the relationship with friends, more focusing on communication and relaxation than on playing sports game itself. Second, the students thought of school sports club activities as an exit. Those students who lacked leisure time regarded school sports club activity as a time to play with friends, to escape from the pressure of good grades, and different from physical education.
