  • The globalization of the world, fueled by the Internet, made possible for individuals to access the cultures around the world, other than their own, easier than ever before. But among those rapidly sought out sub-cultures, the video gaming industry, once a niche market mostly for nerds and geeks, now has become one of the biggest entertainment businesses in the world. In a video game, one of the critical elements that could determine its success or failure is the characters featured in the game. And as the countless number of animated characters from many different video games from the past few years have become incredibly popular among the audiences around the world, the expectations from the fans also grow higher every time a new game comes out. Ultimately this has forced the video game developers to come up with more unique and interesting characters for their video games. And at this point, where a video game character is more than just fictional fantasy but a brand to be recognized, it is worth paying proper attention to the video game characters that represent Korea. Hence in this study, we will take a look at Han Ju-Ri, a Korean character featured in Super Street Fighter IV, a competitive fighting game developed by Capcom, one of the world's most recognized video game companies that started its life as an arcade video game, developer but eventually ventured its business into the online world. The study will propose a complete overhaul of the character by incorporating Korea's own traditional looks.

A Study on the Design and Validation of Automatic Pitch Rocker for the Aircraft Deep Stall Recovery (항공기의 실속 회복을 위한 자동 회복 장치 설계 및 검증에 관한 연구)

  • Modem version of supersonic jet fighter aircraft must have been guaranteed appropriate controllability and stability in HAoA(High Angle of Attack). Limit value of aircraft entering into the departure in HAoA is related to aircraft configuration design. But, the control law such as AoA and yaw-rate limiter is implemented in digital Fly-By-Wire flight control system of supersonic jet fighter to guarantee the aircraft's safety in HAoA. The HAoA flight control law have two parts, one is control law of departure prevention and the other is control law of departure recovery support. The control laws of departure prevention for advanced jet trainer consist AoA limiter, roll command limiter and rudder fader. The control laws of departure recovery support are consist yaw-rate limiter and MPO(Manual Pitch Override) mode. The guideline of pitch rocking using MPO mode is simple, but operating skill of pitch rocking is very difficult by the pilot with inexperience of departure situation. This paper addresses the design and validation of APR(Automatic Pitch Rocker) control law instead of MPO in order to automatic recovery without manual pitch rocking by the pilot. And, recovery characteristic with APR verifies by the nonlinear analysis and pilot evaluation.

  • After 2001, the world aircraft industry grows consistently with world's economic recovery. The environmental changes after 9.11, including the market decent and revival, rise in oil price, and the environmental problems, make the aircraft industry change gradually. The increasing demand of point-to-point flight needs over 200 seat class large jets and changes the main model of regional jet over 100 seat class. And the needs of various flight schedule raises the demand of business jet and VLJ. The competition between airliners including the main streams, the regionals and the low prices goes harder and it needs more efficient airplanes which reduce the cost. In the military side, still the development of 5th generation fighter is proceeding and it diffuses to the more countries. Before its popularization, the 4th generation fighter is chosen for good alternatives of it. And there are some changes in the military demand after the war against terrorism. The army needs more unmanned reconnaissance and they want new aircraft which gives more accessibility.

  • Recently, active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, electro-optical and infrared (EO-IR) and infra-red search and track (IRST) sensors are under development in the Korean fighter experimental(KF-X) project, and AESA radar is currently undergoing preliminary research for flight testing. This paper focuses on the flying test bed (FTB) aircraft operation cases of developed countries in accordance with AESA radar development. As a result, we review domestic laws and regulations related to the airworthiness for FTB aircraft to operate in domestic environment and look for ways to operate FTB aircraft. Therefore, we propose how to selecting, airworthiness and operating FTB aircraft suitable for the domestic environment.

Performance Evaluation of Search Robot Prototypes for Special Disaster Areas (특수재난지역 정찰로봇 시제품의 성능평가연구)

  • Recently, three kinds of search robot prototypes were developed to assume the role of fire fighters for search and rescue missions in special disaster areas with high heat, smoke, toxic gases, or radioactivity. To accomplish search missions, these robots should be able to endure heat, overcome various obstacles, suppress fires, and see through dense smoke. This study investigated the heat resistance, practicality, and fire fighting capacity of these robots. The results show that the small and middle-sized robots were resistant to surrounding temperatures of $100{\sim}200^{\circ}C$, and the fire-fighter-riding robot could endure up to $500^{\circ}C$ for half an hour. The fire-fighter-riding robot showed excellent extinguishing performance on an A-10 class fire model, which was extinguished within 3 min. The robots also showed various capacities for overcoming obstacles and are expected to play an active role in various special disaster areas.

Inhibitory Effect of adding Phase Change Material (PCM) to Fire Fighter Protective Clothing on Burn Injuries (Phase Change Material (PCM) 소재 적용 소방보호복의 화상발생 억제효과에 관한 연구)

  • Fire fighters rely on fire fighter protective clothing (FFPC) to provide adequate protection in the various hazardous environments. To enhance its protection performance, the FFPC material must be thick and thus it is difficult to achieve weight reduction. One of the methods of overcoming this problem, the addition of phase change material (PCM) to FFPC, is a new technology. In previous studies, the researches was mostly related to the temperature characteristics of the fibers incorporating PCM, but little information is available about its effect on burn injuries. Thus, in this study, the inhibitory effects of adding PCM to FFPC on second degree burns were investigated through numerical calculations. Thermal analyses of biological tissues and FFPC with embedded PCM exposed to several fire conditions causing severe tissue damage were studied by using a finite difference method based on the Pennes bio-heat equation. FFPC with embedded PCM was found to provide significantly greater protection than conventional fire fighting clothing, because the heat of absorption due to the phase change within the material is used to limit the heat conduction of the material.

  • Weight-bearing building materials are substantially weakened under high temperatures, and this is evident through the collapse of structures once engulfed by fire. Currently, there is no scientific or technological process of evaluating the real-time structural stability of a building whcih is engulfed by flame. There are many building design specifications which aim to reduce the risk of fire, but little consideration given to fire officer safety while operating in a dangerous building. This paper aims to provide direction within building policy in order to ensure the safe evacuation of fire-fighters in case of an impending building collapse. This paper suggests evaluation criteria for buildings which are damaged due to fire, autilizing current information on fire-resistant building design and a fire-resistant capacity.

  • A weapon control algorithm equipped on a fighter is closely related to the mission accomplishment and fighter survivability during the engagement. In the case of a air-to-surface missile, the weapon control algorithm typically provides a pilot the target shoot-down possible region known as launch acceptability region(LAR) in the multi function display(MFD). LAR is produced by the range table(RT) through computation of an engagement range. In this paper, the operation system of AGM-84 and AGM-88 air-to-surface missiles is introduced. And the engagement range computation and LAR algorithm based on the real-time pseudo 6-DOF simulation are proposed. In order to verify the performance of the algorithm, numerical engagement simulations of air-to-surface missiles to produce LAR have been done.

  • A weapon control algorithm equipped on a fighter is closely related to the mission accomplishment and fighter survivability during engagement. The weapon control algorithm typically provides a pilot the dynamic launch zone(DLZ), the target shoot-down range of air-to-air missiles, in the head-up display(HUD). DLZ is produced by an engagement range computation algorithm. In this paper, the components of DLZ for AIM-9 and AIM-120 air-to-air missiles are introduced. The real-time computation algorithm for DLZ based on the pseudo 6-DOF program is then addressed The operational aspects of DLZ algorithm for the air-to-air missiles to various engagement scenarios is investigated vis simulations.

  • Supersonic jet fighter aircraft must have been guaranteed appropriate for controllability and stability in HAoA(High Angle of Attack) region. Limit value of aircraft enter the deep stall at HAoA is related to problem of aircraft configuration design. But, In order to guarantee the aircraft safety in HAoA, control law is designed using digital Fly-By-Wire flight control system in modern versions of supersonic jet fighter aircraft. Also, In order to recovery if aircraft enter the deep stall or spin, anti-spin control law and MPO(Manual Pitch Override) mode is designed. AoA limiter and MPO is designed in longitudinal axis and HAoA departure prevention logic, roll command limiter, rudder fader and anti-spin logic is designed in lateral-directional axis. In this paper, we introduce the T-50 HAoA flight control law and propose that aircraft stability and adequate of these control law from HAoA flight test.
