  • This paper presents the system demonstrator for an optical fiber sensor system developed as a technological evaluator suitable for generic sensric sensing applications. The new type of fiber-optic sensor employed a diaphragm displacement transforms pressure into optical intensity. Form this sensing technique, we can know the variation of source intensity, the loss of a optical fiber, and the reflectivity of the diaphragm surface. Experimental results are applied to the low-pressure transducer suitable for measuring miniature pressure.

  • Nowadays, the general stripping work of form has brought some problems; increase of total constructing cost resulted from the man-dependent form work procedure and environmental issues by wasting the debonded form. In this study, to effectively reduce unnecessary cost and resolve the environmental problems caused by these kinds of reason, a permanent form method using stainless steel fiber was introduced then its material and structural characteristics were evaluated. In the case of material characteristic, the permanent form had a good ductile behavior in the result of flexural test of the permanent form panel and pull-out test of insert bolt which is installed in the permanent form and perfect bonding capacity with a field concrete. In the case of structural characteristic, compressive and tensile behavior of the permanent form was evaluated. It also showed a good structural behavior in the view of load-deflection relationship, crack patterns and additional strengthening effect.

  • This experimental study examines the applicability of polymer mortar permanent forms using a methyl methacrylate (MMA) solution of waste expanded polystyrene (EPS) to develop effective recycling processes for the EPS, referring to the flexural behavior of a polymer-impregnated mortar permanent form with almost the same performance as commercial products. An MMA solution of EPS is prepared by dissolving EPS in MMA, and unreinforced and steel fiber-reinforced polymer mortars are mixed using the EPS-MMA-based solution as a liquid resin or binder. Polymer mortar permanent forms (PMPFs) using the EPS-MMA-based polymer mortars without and with steel fiber and crimped wire cloth reinforcements and steel fiber-reinforced polymer-impregnated mortar permanent form (PIMPF) are prepared on trial, and tested for flexural behavior under four-point (third-point) loading. The EPS-MMAbased PMPFs are more ductile than the PIMPF, and have a high load-bearing capacity. Consequently, they can replace PIMPF in practical applications.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have exceptional mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties compared with those of commercialized high-performance fibers. For use in the form of fabrics that can maintain such properties, individual CNTs should be held together in fibers or made into yarns twisted out of the fibers. Typical methods that are used for such purposes include (a) surfactant-based coagulation spinning, which injects a polymeric binder between CNTs to form fibers; (b) liquid-crystalline spinning, which uses the nature of CNTs to form liquid crystals under certain conditions; (c) direct spinning, which can produce CNT fibers or yarns at the same time as synthesis by introducing a carbon source into a vertical furnace; and (d) forest spinning, which draws and twists CNTs grown vertically on a substrate. However, it is difficult for those CNT fibers to express the excellent properties of individual CNTs as they are. As solutions to this problem, post-treatment processes are under development for improving the production process of CNT fibers or enhancing their properties. This paper discusses the recent methods of fabricating CNT fibers and examines some post-treatment processes for property enhancement and their applications.

  • Let$P{\rightarrow}M$ be an oriented $S^2-fiber$ bundle over a closed manifold M and let Q be its associated SO(3)-bundle, then we investigate the ring structure of the cohomology of the total space P by constructing the coupling form TA induced from an SO(3) connection A. We show that the cohomology ring of total space splits into those of the base space and the fiber space if and only if the Pontrjangin class $p_1(Q)\;{\in}\;H^4(M;\mathbb{Z})$ vanishes. We apply this result to the twistor spaces of 4-manifolds.

  • Activated carbon fiber could be prepared at 973 K by catalytic activation using potassium hydroxide. Phenol resin fiber (Kynol) was impregnated with potassium hydroxide ethanol solution, carbonized and activated at 973 K, resulting in activated carbon fibers with different porosities. The potassium hydroxide accelerated the activation of the fiber catalytically to form narrow micropore preferentially in carbon dioxide atmosphere. The narrow micropore volume of 0.3~0.4 cc/g, total pore volume of 0.3~0.8 cc/g, mean pore width of 0.5~0.7 nm was obtained in the range of 20~50% burnoff.

  • Sodium sulfate is commonly added in reactive dyebath in order to increase substantivity of the reactive dye to cellulose fiber by reducing repulsion between anionic dye and fiber. While sodium sulfate is mostly used in solid form, it is inconvenient to dissolve a large amount of powder sodium sulfate. Furthermore, if there is undissolved salt in dyebath it might cause unlevel dyeing. In this study, sodium sulfate in liquid or solid form was used in dyeing of cellulose fabric with reactive dyes of three primary color and the effect of type or amount of sodium sulfate on dyeing and fastness properties was investigated. When the amount of sodium sulfate rose to 30-50 g/l, K/S value of the dyed fabric markedly increased; further rise in sodium sulfate concentration resulted in slow increase in K/S value. For light color, optimum amount was about 30 g/l in solid form and 50-100 g/l in liquid form while, for medium to deep color, it was 50 g/l and 100-150 g/l in solid and liquid form, respectively. When using each optimum amount of salt in solid or liquid form for medium color, shape of dyeing curve as well as exhaustion was similar to each other. On the whole, similar color fastness results were obtained regardless of type or amount of sodium sulfate.

  • In this paper, dispersibility of steel fiber is improved mixing with form for material development of protection and blast resistant structure sprayed concrete. And it is developed a high toughness cellular sprayed concrete material using steel fiber. Oversupply form for dispersibility improvement of steel fiber is mostly fade away through sprayed, finally it is satisfied with the proper mixing ratio under 3 % ~ 6 %. This is considered for compressive strength and flexural toughness. Test results of compressive strength showed superior strength capability in 28, 56 days, also flexural strength and flexural toughness is great. Then oversupply form is enhanced for dispersibility of steel fiber and I think that it did not cause decreasing of strength. But analysis results of pore structure through image analysis failed for a great spacing factor and specific surface area. This is largely measured in spacing factor because air content have a grate evaporation effect for sprayed.

  • The dynamics and Durability of Permanent Form Mortar were observed. The results were as the followings. To construct New permanent form, this study constructed permanent form with fiber mortar. In this course glass fiber and polymer, fine aggregate were substituted with river sand and crush sand. To understand material quality effect, flexible mortar and inflexible mortar were tested. According to the microstructure of polymermatrix test by SEM, higher density by Co-matrix effect from polymer addiction was observed. This is considered to increase acid-resistanc, impact proof strenght. In the test of durability of freezing and thawing, polymer mortar was proved to be water proof. It seems to be improved in its characteristics in proportion to increasing W/C ratio. When the W/C ratio is 30%, it is most effective.

  • Volume hologram was recorded using reference beam form optical fiber taper. A singel mode fiber was chemically etced to make a taper structure, and we showed experimentally that the referencing by the irregular beam pattern from this taper structure could increase the storage density of photorefractive volume hologram. The spatial selectivity of the volume hologram with this method was increased by two times compared to the normal single mode fiber referencing case. A theoretical analysis with randomly phased plane model also confirmed the results.
