  • This study is intended to give information on agricultural nonpoint source pollution and transport related to fertilizer application and irrigation practice. Field-simulated soil columns were set up and leaching studies on fertilizer components such as nitrogen and phosphorus were performed. Nitrogen and phosphorus in the leachate showed different trends in each column and nonpoint source pollution in agricultural areas may be expected to depend on planted crops, soil conditions, and climate as well as irrigation and fertilizing management.

  • For the purpose of sweet potato varietal improvement, yulmi, shinyulmi, gunmi, hongmi and seonmi, whose source and sink are different one another, were cultivated at different amount of fertilizers, and then defoliation at initial stage of tuberous root weight increase on the relation of source and sink was observed as follows. The response of stem, leaf and tuberous root weight by amount of fertilizer and defoliation rate of sweet potato varieties was different. Stem and leaf weight increased along with heavy dressing by the following order; shinyulmi> seonmi> hongmi> gunmi> yulmi. Tuberous root number was the most at $N-P_2O_5-K_2O=60-70-190kg/ha$ amount of fertilizer, showing seonmi the most number. The number of stem, leaf and tuberous root increased along with the lowered rate of defoliation. In case of $N-P_2O_5-K_2O=20-30-90kg/ha$ amount of fertilizer, tuberous root weight increased by increase of stem and leaf weight up to 50% defoliation and the difference of stem, leaf and tuberous root number was low as defoliation rate increases. The total dry weight matter was the most at heavy dressing amount of fertilizer.

  • This study was conducted to develop economical agricultural fertilizer media for the mass culturing of Nannochloropsis oceanica. Specific growth rates of N. oceanica cultured with differing concentrations of commercial compounds, urea fertilizers, and trace elements (Zn, Cu, Co, Mo) were compared with the growth rate in f/2 medium. Among the various added trace elements, $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ was most effective for high growth of N. oceanica. The main nitrogen source in the agricultural fertilizers was ammonium, which was unsuitable for the growth of N. oceanica. Thus, the fertilizer at a lower concentration infused with $NaNO_3$ as a nitrogen source was more effective than fertilizer at higher concentrations. In this study, the growth of N. oceanica cultured with an agricultural fertilizer medium composed of compound fertilizer (41.7 mg/L), urea fertilizer (34.4 mg/L), $NaNO_3$ (150 mg/L), and $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ (0.0588 mg/L) was similar to that of N. oceanica cultured in f/2 medium.

  • A field experiment was conducted at the forage experimental plots, Seoul National University, Suweon h m 1995 to 1996 to determine the effect of legume residues as a N source and N fertilizer on corn (Zea mays L.) silage yield, N uptake, and availability of inorganic N in the soil. Corn was grown following (i) red clover (Trifolium pratense L.), (ii) crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.), (iii) alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and (iv) winter fallow. The plots were split into two rates of fertilizer N (0 and 90kg Nlha) in a split-plot experimental plan. Compared with fallow treatment, legumes depleted soil water in the surface 15cm at corn planting by 17 to 26%. As a result, corn emergence was markedly delayed with legume residues by 8 to 11 days. Corn silage DM yield was significantly reduced in the presence of legume residues by 2.0 to 3.4 and 1.5 to 2.5 tonlha compared with winter fallow treatment at 0 and 90kg fertilizer Nlha, respectively, but no significant difference in the corn DM yield was found between legume residue treatments. There was an overall tendency for increased corn yields with 90kg fertilizer Nlha compared to Okg fertilizer Nlha, although not all yield increases were significantly greater. The corn yield response to applied N suggests that a source of N from legume residues was not sufficient for a succeeding corn crop. There was significantly more N (P

  • The results investigated of the effect of light, pH, and nutrients in vitro and the levels of fertilizer(P,K and Ca) in vivo in order to find out the effect of environmental factors in forming an appressorium of Colletotrichum truncatum were as follows; The ratio of appressorium formation promoted more in a light treatment than in a dark treatment according to investigation after three and six hours passed away. But after the period, the ratio of appressorium formation promoted highly in both treatments. Reasonable pH of appressorium formation was pH 6-pH 8. The ratio of appressorium formation was the most favorable at none nutrient level in every treatment of C-source and N-source, and suppressed in a high concentration of C-source and N-source. But according as the time passed away, the ratio of appressorium formation promoted in C-source and N-source. When their quantities were increased in P and K treatments, the ratio of appressorium formation was somewhat suppressed but it was highly suppressed in the gradual order of none fertilizer level < standard fertilizer level < doubled fertilizer level in Ca treatment according to investigation after the first three hours passed away. But after the period, the ratio of appressorium formation promoted highly regardless of the level of fertilizer.

  • Veterinary antibiotics (VAs) in animal compost and organic fertilizer can have adverse effect on ecosystem and eventually human health. The main purpose of this research was to evaluate feasibility of Charm II system for monitoring residuals of VAs in animal compost and organic fertilizer. Four different VAs (Tetracyclines: TCs, Sulfonamides: SAs, Macrolides: MLs, and ${\beta}$-lactams: ${\beta}$-LTs) were analyzed and total of 100 samples were monitored. Results reveled that SAs in animal compost showed the highest detection frequency (64%) with exceeded concentration of criteria. However, very low detection frequency (0-12%) for ${\beta}$-LTs was observed in animal compost and organic fertilizer. Depending on physicochemical properties of each VAs, detection frequency of VAs was determined. In conclusion, charm II system can be utilized to screen if residual of VAs is in animal compost and organic fertilizer. Also, more research is necessary to establish standard method for analysis of VAs in complex matrix and to minimize adverse effect of VAs from source to environment.

  • This study was conducted to identify the optimal conditions for seedling growth in Veronica rotunda var. subintegra (Nakai) T.Yamaz. which a endemic plant and can be development as ornamental plants. We sowed V. rotunda var. subintegra (Nakai) T.Yamaz. seeds, and exposed the seedling was different treatment conditions. We varied soil type and fertilizer concentration, shading ratio, additional fertilizer concentration, pretreatment light exposure and collection time of seeds. We found that seedling growth was good in horticultural substrate (with no additional fertilizer), but mixed soils supplemented with fertilizer inhibited growth, regardless of the fertilizer concentration. In the 55% shading treatment, seedling growth was greater than in the non-shading treatment. High concentration addition of fertilizer (Hyponex) promoted plant growth, in terms of both plant length and fresh weight. Exposure of seeds to a red light-source prior to germination had a greater effect on seedling growth than exposure to other light sources. Seedlings exhibited better growth when grown from seed collected in 2018, rather than 2017.

  • The sludge, a waste of brewery industries, was examined for potentials as a natural organic fertilizer (or soil conditioner) for lawn. Trial products were measured for changes of physical, chemical properties in laboratory and seed germination and seedling growth in green house were also tested. The results are as the following:1The sludge from distilled liquor brewery contained high quantity of organic matter which had proper physical and chemical properties for lawn fertilizer (natural organic fertilizer, soil conditioner, top-dressing mix) . It showed good characteristics in handling and capabilities to be developed as commercial products for golf courses. 2.Sludge from beer company needs proper treatment to improve physical properties for futher degradiation. It is because aggregation of the sludge particles prevented microbial activities and changing to soluble form. 3.Green carbon can be used as carbon source for organic fertilizer production using brewery sludge, but it should not contain wood extract which inhibit seed germination and seedling growth.
