  • Plastic film houses are directly associated with increases in plant growth and yield of vegetable crops through a year round cultivation, however, at the same time temperature stresses are one of fates which are difficult to avoid during crop growth. The objective of this study was to examine the translocation and distribution of minerals (N, P, K) and carbohydrates as well as seasonal fluctuation of mineral uptake and carbohydrate production in cucumber plant grown under moderately high temperature. The temperature treatments consisted of 2-layers film houses (optimal temp.) and 3-layers (high temp.). Shoot growth of cucumber plants were linearly increased until 14 weeks after transplanting (WAT) without any significant difference between both temperatures, and the slowdown was observed from 16 WAT. The level of soluble sugar and starch was slightly greater in optimal temperature compared to the high. Cumulative accumulation of soluble sugar was significantly different before and after 12 WAT in both treatments, whereas starch level represented a constant increase. Monthly production of soluble sugar reached the peak between 12 to 16 WAT, and starch peaked between 4 to 8 WAT and 12 to 16 WAT. Total uptake of N, P and K in optimal and high temperature conditions was $18.4g\;plant^{-1}$ and 17.6 for N, 4.7 and 5.1 for P, and 37.7 and 36.2 for K, respectively, and the pattern of monthly N uptake between optimal and high temperatures was greater in early growth stage, whereas was greater in mid growth stage in both P and K. Thus, this study suggests that moderately high temperature influences much greater to photosynthesis and carbohydrate production than plant biomass and mineral uptake. On the basis of the present result, it is required to indentify analysis of respiration rates from plant and soil by constantly increasing temperature conditions and field studies where elevated temperatures are monitored and manipulated.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects on plant growth, soil chemical properties and microbial flora with microbial fertilizer to chinese cabbage cultivation. The plant growth was promoted and the yield increased by application of Tian Li Bao(TLB) microbial fertilizer as compared with the control. However, yield a littler decreased in case of the reduced amount of urea application as a top dressing and half of compost chicken manure as a basial fertilizer even if treated with TLB microbial fertilizer. Organic matter and total nitrogen contents decreased as compared to those in the control, and total nitrogen ranged in 0.76~1.44% in the treatments at harvesting time, and decreased with application of TLB microbial fertilizer compared to that of the control. The available phosphorus content in the field before experiment was 559ppm, but it was 755ppm and 653 in the control and treatments at harvesting time, respectively. Therefore, it was shown that phosphorus content in the treatment was lower than that of the control. On the other hand, total nitrogen, phosphorous and K ranged from 2.62 to 2.94%, from 1.48 to 1.55% and from 3.60 to 4.38% in plants after harvest, respectively. There were no significant differences among the treatments. For the soil microbial flora, the population of bacteria in the treatments decreased with application of microbial fertilizer as compared with the control over all cultivation periods. It was shown that the population of pseudomonas spp. was over 3 times higher than that of the control after harvesting. The population of actinomycetes didn't show difference among the treatments, but high density of fungi after harvesting were observed in the treatments.

  • Plant growth promoting ability of Methylobacterium oryzae CBMB20 was evaluated under different levels of organic fertilizer application on red pepper plants in a pot experiment. Oil cake as an organic N fertilizer was applied at the rates of 70, 85, 100 and 120% of the conventional recommended level. Each treatment was further treated with or without M. oryzae CBMB20 inoculation. The recommended amount of compost for red pepper was added in all the treatments. Results revealed that plant height, dry biomass and fruit yield were enhanced in increasing order as the rate of fertilization increased. Overall plant growth was improved due to the inoculation of M. oryzae CBMB20 and red pepper fruit yield was also increased by 10-35% in the plants inoculated with M. oryzae CBMB20 at different rates of organic fert1izer application. Total methylotrophic bacterial population in rhizosphere soil measured at the time of harvest was significantly higher in M. oryzae CBMB20 inoculated treatments. The growth promoting effect of M. oryzae CBMB20 found in red pepper could be due to the effective colonization of the bacteria in the rhizosphere and its ability of enhancing nutrient availability and producing plant growth hormones. With the plant growth promoting effect of M. oryzae CBMB20, the rate of organic fertilizer application can be reduced without any significant decreases in biomass production and yield of red pepper.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of a newly developed paste fertilizer on rice growth. It was applied to two vars. of Taeback and Cheonma byeos as a basal treatment. It needs a unique applicator attached to transplant machine for rice plant and was injected about 3cm depth of paddy soils. The polished rice yields were obtained competitively with a 20 percent reduction of N applied with top dressing. Plant development treated paste fertilizer was good compared to control at the early growing stage, however, not different at the late growing stage. Nitrogen uptake in plant was high at the early growing stage in paste fertilizer treatment but there were no significant difference at the late growing stage.

  • Fertilizer granulation test was carried out by a small pan granulator. A premixture composed of SOP 60%, urea 22% and RP powder 18% was rolled in the pan granulator while 10% phosphoric acid solution(binder) was sprayed on the rolling powder bed. Granules were developed very fast along with a little amount of binder. Hardness, brittle ratio in water and hygroscopicity of granules were improved enough to evaluate physical properties of the fertilizer. Growth responses of tobacco plant to the fertilizer were investigated at seedling and flowering stage by pot experiment under plastic film roof. Seedlings showed poor growth at nursery pot cell. In virgin soil with deficient available phosphate tobacco plant showed poor growth until budding and flowering stage but good growth in tillage soil with high cumulative phosphate.

  • This study was conducted to select the most suitable fertilizer level on nursery of mat rush for good quality and high yield. $N-P_{2}O_{5}-K_{2}O=60-30-60$ (kg/10a), fertilizer level on nursery of mat rush showed relatively superior values for all yield components and quality with 57g in fresh weight, 12g in dry weight, 23% in air drying ratio for per plant at the nursery and 125cm in stem length, 150 numbers in stem number, 4,082kg/10a in fresh stem yield, 345kg/10a in long stem yield, 996kg/10a in medium stem yield, 1,421kg/l0a in total stem yield, 34% in dry stem ratio and 30% in long stem ratio at the main paddy field. The results indicate that fertilizer level, $N-P_{2}O_{5}-K_{2}O=60-30-60kg/10a$ in nursery shows different adaptabilities to a particular fertilizer level and 60-30-60 (kg/10a) seems to be the most suitable fertilizer level of mat rush for good quality and high yield.

  • The effect of bio-fertilizer, which was manufactured poultry manure, on the fall performance of Korean lawngrass was determined on a clay loam soil. Plant length was characterized by increasing the amount of bio-fertilizer applied. This trend was also true in dry matter yield of tops during the experimental period from August 31 through October 30. Both tiller numbers and stolon length steadily increased with increasing amount of bio-fertilizer applied, and 40m/t application of bio-fertilizer was found to be most effective on both components. performance shown on November 5 was prominent for both green leaf and root weights when the increased amount of bio-fertilizer was applied. Korean lawngrass had three times as much green leaf weight with 40m/t application of bio-fertilizer as with other treatments. Several functions of increment of above- ground part components caused by increasing root weight, which is greatly affected by bio-fertilizer application, was discussed. Turf quality was much improved by applying bio-fertilizer, indicating that this fertilizer might play an improtant role in respect of soil structure, water retention etc.

  • The ozone depletion has caused plants to be exposed to an increased penetration of solar ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation. Enhanced UV-B radiation may have influence on biological functions of plant in many aspects including inhibition of photosynthesis. It is evident that UV-B can potentially impair the performance of all three main component processes of photosynthesis, the photophosphorylation reactions of the thylakoid membrane, the $CO_2$-fixation reactions of the Calvin cycle and stomatal control of $CO_2$ supply. Owing to these depressed reactions, the production and allocation of carbohydrates might be markedly affected, and therefore, the growth and development of plant are distinctly reduced. In this review paper, we provide basic theory and further researches in terms of photosynthesis and carbohydrate synthesis in response to elevated UV-B radiation.
