  • Deviation behavior of adolescents is often expressed as clothing behavior being against the social or school rules. To understand the relationship between social variables and clothing behavior of adolescents, the study investigated the effect of social variables on the deviation attitude and behavior related to clothing. Survey was utilized to collect the data and subjects were 411 female high school students. Regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results were as follows : The closer relationship female high school students had with their parents, the more negative attitude they took toward clothing deviation and the less they committed the deviant behaviors related to clothing. The results explained that the close relationships with adolescents and their parents kept adolescents from committing the deviant behaviors related to clothing. The subjects who were interested in studying and well adapted for their school life, not only took a negative attitude toward clothing deviation but also committed the deviant behaviors related to clothing less than the other subjects did. The level of social deviation of their friends had an effect on the attitude and experience toward clothing deviation more than the relationship with their parents or school life did. The understanding of the relationship between social variables and clothing deviation would help to decrease the clothing deviation of adolescents by controling the social variables.

About 509 high school students were randomly selected for the samples of this study. They were identified as concrete, transitional and formal operational stage with the scores of GALT(Group Assessment of Logical Thinking) developed by Roadrangka, Yeaney and Padilla(1982), and TIPS II(Test of Integrated Process Skills) developed by Burns, Wise and Okey(1983). The result of this study were showed that about 11.8% of the samples were in the concrete operational stage and about 24.4% of the samples were in the transitional stage, while about 63.8% of them were in the formal operational stage. It was also found that the achivement scores of the science process skills increase in accordance with the cognitive reasoning levels. The value of the correlation coefficient between science process skills and cognitive reasoning abilities was 0.49, which was significant at the 0.05 level. This finding seems to support previous research that the student's cognitive reasoning abilities appeared to have influenced student's scores of the science process skills No differences to the logical reasoning ability between male and female students according to each cognitive level were found except formal operational stage.

  • The augmentation in social deviation of adolescence is one of the issues that modern society should resolve. Deviation behavior of adolescents is often expressed as clothing behavior being against the social or school rules. Therefore, to understand the social deviation and clothing behavior of adolescents, the study investigated the relationship with the level of social deviation, clothing interest, the attitude toward clothing, and clothing deviation. Survey was utilized to collect the data and subjects were 411 female high school students. Principal component analysis and regression analysis were used to analyze the data. While the level of social deviation of female high school students had no statistically significant influence on the fashion-oriented attitude, clothing interest of them had an effect on the fashion-oriented attitude, suggesting that adolescents, having a high interest in clothing, thought the fashion-oriented attitude as an important clothing attribute. The level of social deviation of subjects had a statistically significant influence on the behavior of clothing deviation. The less the subjects took an interest in clothing and the lower the level of social deviation was, the more they thought the status-oriented clothing attitude as an important clothing attribute. Also, the result revealed a similar tendency in the modesty-oriented clothing attitude to that in the status-oriented clothing attitude.
