The purpose of this study is to clarify the value orientation about family life between the older generations and college student. For this purpose, questionnaire were distributed to the older generations and college students in Seoul. Among them 920 data were obtained To obtain the family value scale, item analysis through pearson's correlation and factor analysis were used in pretest, frequency distribution, percentile, mean , t-test , and step-wise multiple were used for data analysis. The results are summarized as follows. 1) Male college students show traditional tendency and female college students show modern tendency especially sex-role attitude, ancestor worship attitude, patriarchy attitude. 2) Male and female of the older generations how traditional tendency. 3) The older generations show traditional tendency, college students show modern tendency, especially sex-role attitude and kinship attitude. 4) Male adults and male college students show traditional tendency. 5) Female adults show traditional tendency , female college students show modern tendency. In female, generation gap is more serious than males. 6) the most influencial socio-demographic variables on family value consciousness of the older generations are the religion and education, In case of college students, sex, major, religion, family income grown-up area effect on their value consciousness about family life, Based on the above findings , we should develop school education and many social programs to reduce the generation gap.
Female college consumers are orientated toward vanity and fashion luxury products in consumer society. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the relationship of vanity type and attitude toward fashion luxury products. The data were collected from 517 female college students in Ulsan, Pusan, and Kimhai. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and MCA were used. Results of cluster analysis identified the vanity type of the female college students into non-vanity group, positive viewer, and vanity group. Above two third of the total sample were the vanity group and the positive viewer. The non-vanity group, was comprised the smallest proportion of female college students. Attitude toward fashion luxury products was classified into four factors; involvement for fashion luxury, superiority of the fashion luxury, hedonic and conspicious consumption, and negative response. The attitude toward fashion luxury products was significantly different across the 3 vanity type. The results of this study provide insights into female college consumers' increasing demands toward fashion luxury brands. Consumer education should be implemented for the vanity group, and personal financial management education program is needed in liberal arts curriculum.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare and examine gender role identity and sexual attitude according to sex among college students. Method: The subjects consisted of 1,118 college students. The tool for gender role identity and sexual attitude was the Korea Gender Role Identity Inventory(KGRII) of Lee, Kim and Koh(2002) and the Sexual Attitude Scale of Koh, Kim and Lee(2005). The collected data was analyzed using descriptive analyzed statistics, $X^2$ test, Lamda, t-test, ANOVA, Sheffe and Pearson correlation with the SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Result: For male students, undifferentiated role identity type, 36.5%, was the most common but for female students, an androgynous role identity type, 39.3%, was most common. The sexual attitude score according to gender role identity type was 2.9 for the undifferentiated type as the highest score. Of both male and female students, the highest sexual attitude score was the undifferentiated type. Sexual attitude according to general characteristics for male students had a significant difference in major field of study and height and for female students weight. Sexual attitude was significantly related to age, height and weight. Conclusion: These results suggest that gender role identity and sexual attitudes are different between the sexes. This study result contributes to providing basic data for sex education and nursing interventions for college students.
The purpose of this survey was to study nutrition knowledge, dietary attitude, residences and purpose value of meal in the college freshmen. The survey was conducted from May 1 to May 25 in 1997. The results are summarized as follows. The female students showed higher scores than male students in nutrition knowledge score, but there was no difference in dietary attitude. Dietary attitude of the students living in home were higher than that of the other students. Female students tended to choose food for the pleasure of its taste. On female students, no difference was founded on nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude with purpose value of meal. The male students who have purpose value of meal on intake of nutrients showed the highest score in nutrition knowledge.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a peer cervical cancer prevention education program on Korean female college students' knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and intention. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a non-equivalent control group was used. The participants were 58 female college students in a metropolitan city in Korea. The sample consisted of an intervention group (n=28) that participated in a peer education program and a control group (n=30). Data were measured using self-administered questionnaires at two time points: prior to the intervention and after the intervention. Results: Compared to the control group, the experimental group reported significantly positive changes for knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and intent to practice cervical cancer prevention behaviors. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicated that a peer education program developed for Korean female college students was a useful and effective intervention strategy to promote cervical cancer prevention behaviors in Korean sociocultural contexts.
The study investigated the relationship between college students' purpose of and their attitude to English education for their future children (EEFFC). The subjects were 244 college students in Daegu/Keoungbok area, 120 males (49.2%) and 124 females (50.8%). The data were analyzed with $X^2$, t-test, Pearson's Correlation, and Regression (using SPSS 12.1). Major findings include: (1)Female students are willing to give English education in their future children's earlier years, and they show more active attitude to EEFFC than male students. (2) The purpose of EEFFC is more deeply correlated to the attitude to EEFFC in the case of male students than female students. (3) Concludingly, the more the subjects think that English education is essential for their future children's successful social career, the more they show positive attitude to English education.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the contraceptive knowledge, self-efficacy according to the career tract of high school female students. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional, correlational design using an exploratory survey methodology through self-reported questionnaires. The questionnaires were administered to 369 high school female students using a convenience sampling. Results: In the experience of sexual behaviors(grasping hand, hugging, petting, deep petting, sexual intercourse), technical female high school students showed more experiences than female high school students. In the contraceptive knowledge, the score of high school students' contraceptive knowledge was higher than technical female high school students. In the contraceptive self-efficacy, there was not a significant difference between the technical female high school students and female high school students. In the female high school students, there were significant differences in the contraceptive knowledge according to grade, academic record, sex education experience and there were significant differences in the contraceptive self-efficacy according to grade, academic record, parents' attitude about acquaintance of the opposite sex. In the technical female high school students, there was not significant difference in the contraceptive knowledge according to demographic, sexual behavior, and contraceptive related characteristics but there were significant differences in the contraceptive self-efficacy according to grade, parents' attitude about acquaintance of the opposite sex, contraceptive education experience at school. There was positive relationship between contraceptive knowledge and contraceptive self-efficacy. Conclusion: Further research is needed to identify the prevalence rate of contraceptive attitude using more reliable variables. A sex education program should be developed for promoting use of contraceptive measure and formation of positive contraceptive attitude among high school female students.
This comparative study was conducted to compare the attitudes of sexuality and knowledge of sexual violence between male and female college students. The subjects of this study were 222 male students and 200 female students. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire of 3 general characteristics, 11 items to test attitudes on sexuality, 10 items to test knowledge of sexual violence, 1 item on the cause of sexual violence and 1 item to check knowledge of sexual violence countermeasures. According to the SPSS/PC Program, Frequency, mean, percentage, t - test, Pearson correlation coefficient were used in analyzing the data. The results of the study are summarized as follows. 1. The result of the comparison between two groups was significantly different in their attitude on sexuality(t= -4.16, P<.000). Female students had higher scores than male students. 2. The result of the comparison between two groups was significantly different for their knowledge on sexual violence(t= -6.82, P<.000). Female students had higher scores than male students. 3. As a countermeasure for prevention, sex educations is needed(27%). 4. Very high correlations were observed between a subject's sex and his /her sexuality(r=.1990, P<.0001), between a subject's sex and his /her knowledge of sexual violence(r=.3157, P<.0001), between a subject's attitude on sexuality and his /her knowledge of sexual violence(r=.2538, P<.0001).
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of experience based menstrual education program on menstrual attitude and menstrual discomfort among female elementary students. Methods: Non-equivalent control group, pre-post test design was utilized for the study. The participants in the study were 122 female elementary students in P city. They were assigned into 2 groups: The experimental group of 62 and the control group of 60. The experience based education program consisted of 5 sessions with 40 minute length. For control group, no treatment was provided during the period. Post-tests were conducted just after the following menstrual period for both experimental and control groups. The data was analyzed using SPSS WIN 12.0 program. The t-tests were used to answer the research questions. Results: There were significant differences in menstrual attitude and menstrual discomfort between experimental and control groups, The students who participated in the program reported more positive attitude to the menstruation and less discomfort during menstrual period than the students who did not participate in the program. Conclusions: Experience based education had a positive influence on menstrual attitude and menstrual discomfort among female elementary students. Further application of the program would be beneficial for the female elementary students. Future research to standardize the program to the broader population is warranted.
This study aimed to find out the relationship between the body shape and the degree of obesity and the eating attitude influenced by the eating disorder among male and female college students. Followings are the summary of the results obtained in this study : 1. Male students perceived their own body shape properly, however female students perceived their body shape fatter than their real one even if almost all of them were maintaining normal weight. 2. For both male and female students the EAT-26 score was high when they perceived themselves fat, and in the group of students perceiving themselves fat the F I score was high and the F III score was low. Contray to this, in the group of students perceiving themselves thin the F nt score was high. The EAT-26 of female students marked higher than that of males in total questionares. 3. The EAT-26 score was high for both male and female students whose degree of obesity was high. The higher the degree of obesity the higher the F I score, and the lower the degree of obesity the higher the F III score. 4. For both male and female students the dieting frequency was high when they were in the group perceiving themselves fat and in the group with the high degree of obesity. And the number of females' is higher than that of males'. For male students there was no significant difference of dieting frequency in accordance with the perceived body shape and the degree of obesity. However, for female students the frequency was high when they were in the group perceiving themselves fat and in the group with the high degree of obesity. The frequency was high when they were in the group perceiving themselves thin and in the group with the low degree of obesity. 5. For the matter of relationship between the degree of obesity and the frequency of buying meals there was significant difference only in the female students and the frequency of buying meals was higher when the degree of obesity was higher.
