  • This paper proposes a performance improvement to a control system with state feedback control loops and feedforward control loops proposed in a previous paper. The technique allows to solve the regulator problem and at the same time to make the system follow command signal. The scheme is implemented in a 16 bit microcomputer using a floating coprocessor. Tests on a DC machine have been conducted, comparisons with the previous results are made.

  • We propose a method of generating data to train a neural network controller. The data can be prepared directly by an iterative learning technique which repeatedly adjusts the control input to improve the tracking quality of the desired trajectory. Instead of storing control input data in memory as in iterative learning control, the neural network stores the mapping between the control input and the desired output. We apply this concept to the trajectory control of a two link robot manipulator with a feedforward neural network controller and a feedback linear controller. Simulation results show good generalization of the neural network controller.

  • The helicopter system is non-linear and complex. Futhermore, because of absence of accurate mathematical model, it is difficult accurately to control its attitude. therefore, we propose a WAVENET control technique to control efficiently its elevation angle and azimuth one. Wavelet neural network(WAVENET) can construct systematically initial neural network as applying wavelet theory to feedforward network. It is proved through computer simulation that WAVENET has more excellent approximation capability than existing neural network. The simulation results using MATLAB are introduced.

  • This paper presents modeling and analysis of a PWM buck AC-AC converter The converter is modelled by using DQ transformation whereby both the static and dynamic characteristics are analyzed completely. The feedforward-feedback control technique is also proposed to obtain instantaneous duty level change whereby very fast dynamic response is achieved. The simulation results show the validity of the modeling and analysis.

  • This paper presents a PWM buck AC-AC converter with instantaneous compensation for input voltage sag and surge. The presented converter use commercial IGBT modules and its output voltage is regulated so as to remain constant AC output voltage. The feedforward control technique is also proposed to establish instantaneous duty level change whereby stable output voltage will be retained. This paper show the characteristics and control algorithm of the converter through various PSPICE simulations.

  • The back propagation(BP) algorithm allows multilayer feedforward neural networks to learn input-output mappings from training samples. It iteratively adjusts the network parameters(weights) to minimize the sum of squared approximation errors using a gradient descent technique. However, the mapping acquired through the BP algorithm may be corrupt when errorneous training data are employed. In this paper two types of robust backpropagation algorithms are discussed both from a theoretical point of view and in the case studies of nonlinear regression function estimation and handwritten Korean character recognition. For future research we suggest Bayesian learning approach to neural networks and compare it with two robust backpropagation algorithms.

  • A mathematical tension model for a moving web in a multi-span web handling system was derived and validated by using a simulator which includes unwinder, driven roller, winder, load cells, controllers, etc. A tension controller was designed to compensate tension disturbances generated by velocity changes of the unwinder and driven roller. From experimental results it was proved that the tension model properly expressed the tension behavior of a moving web for specific conditions. The distributed tension controller designed by using the pole-placement technique compensated the tension disturbances transfered from upsteram tension variation. Interactions between web spans including "tension transfer phenomenon" were clearly confirmed through the study. A mathematical model of lateral motion of a moving web was verified also by using the same experimental apparatus which includes displacement type guidance systems. And a feedforward control strategy was designed for more accurate control of the lateral motion of a moving web, which utilize a measured signal of the lateral displacement of web in a previous span and a more correctly identified mathematical model to estimate the disturbance of lateral motion from the previous span. This approach was turned out to be effective in improving the performance of the guidance system for more wide range disturbances.

  • This paper presents a hybrid control algorithm for the active noise control in the rectangular enclosure using an active/passive foam actuator. The hybrid control composes of the adaptive feedforward with feedback loop in which the adaptive feedforward control uses the well-known filtered-x LMS(least mean square) algorithm and the feedback loop consists of the sliding mode controller and observer. The hybrid control has its robustness for both transient and persistent external disturbances and increases the convergence speed due to the reduced variance of the jiltered-x signal by adding the feedback loop. The sliding mode control (SMC) is used to incorporate insensitivity to parameter variations and rejection of disturbances and the observer is used to get the state information in the controller deign. An active/passive smart foam actuator is used to minimize noise actively using an embedded PVDF film driven by an electrical input and passively using an absorption-foam. The error path dynamics is experimentally identified in the form of the auto-regressive and moving-average using the frequency domain identification technique. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the hybrid control and the feasibility of the smart foam actuator.

  • In the design of flight control systems there are issues that deserve special consideration and attention such as external perturbations or systems failures. A Simple Adaptive Controller (SAC) that does not require a-priori knowledge of the faults is proposed in this paper with the aim of realizing a fault tolerant flight control system capable of leading the pitch motion of an aircraft. The main condition for obtaining a stable adaptive controller is the passivity of the plant; however, since real systems generally do not satisfy such requirement, a properly defined Parallel Feedforward Compensator (PFC) is used to let the augmented system meet the passivity condition. The design approach used in this paper to synthesize the PFC and to tune the invariant gains of the SAC is the Population Decline Swarm Optimization ($P_DSO$). It is a modification of the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique that takes into account a decline demographic model to speed up the optimization procedure. Tuning and flight mechanics results are presented to show both the effectiveness of the proposed $P_DSO$ and the fault tolerant capability of the proposed scheme to control the aircraft pitch motion even in presence of elevator failures.

  • In this research, a simple technique for designing PID controller, which guarantees robust stability for two-mass systems with parameter uncertainties as well as rigid-body behavior and zero steady-state error,is described. As well, such a PID controller is designed to mate two important frequencies, at which the given system is excited, very close so that an appropriate reference profile generated by using command shaping techniques can cover those two frequencies. Root-locus analysis. which shows traces of closed-loop poles for the given system, is used to design this PID controller. Finally, feedforward controller is added to improve tracking performance of the closed-loop system. Simulation for a system with a flexible mode and parameter uncertainties is executed to prove the feasibility of this technique.
