  • Mobile robots use various sensors for navigation such as wheel encoder, vision sensor, sonar, and laser sensors. Dead reckoning is used with wheel encoder, resulting in the accumulation of positioning errors. For that reason wheel encoder can not be used alone. Too much information of vision sensors leads to an increase in the number of features and complexity of perception scheme. Also Sonar sensor is not suitable for positioning because of its poor accuracy. On the other hand, laser sensor provides accurate distance information relatively. In this paper we propose to extract the angular information from the distance information of laser range finder and use the Kalman filter that match the heading and distance of the laser range finder and those of wheel encoder. For laser scanner with one feature point error may increase much when the feature point is variant or jumping to a new feature point. To solve the problem, we propose to use two feature points and show that the positioning error can be reduced much.

  • Advances in detection techniques, such as mutation and obfuscation, are being advanced with the development of malware technology. In the malware detection technology, unknown malware detection technology is important, and a method for Malware Authorship Attribution that detects an unknown malicious code by identifying the author through distributed malware is being studied. In this paper, we try to extract the compiler information affecting the binary-based author identification method and to investigate the sensitivity of feature selection, probability and non-probability models, and optimization to classification efficiency between studies. In the experiment, the feature selection method through information gain and the support vector machine, which is a non-probability model, showed high efficiency. Among the optimization studies, high classification accuracy was obtained through feature selection and model optimization through the proposed framework, and resulted in 48% feature reduction and 53 faster execution speed. Through this study, we can confirm the sensitivity of feature selection, model, and optimization methods to classification efficiency.

  • 3D posture recognition is a solution to overcome the limitation of 2D posture recognition. There are many researches carried out for 3D posture recognition using 3D data. The 3D data consist of massive surface points which are rich of information. However, it is difficult to extract the important features for posture recognition purpose. Meanwhile, it also consumes lots of processing time. In this paper, we introduced a dimension reduction method that transform 3D surface points of an object to 2D data representation in order to overcome the issues of feature extraction and time complexity of 3D posture recognition. For a better feature extraction and matching process, a cylindrical boundary is introduced in meshless parameterization, its offer a fast processing speed of dimension reduction process and the output result is applicable for recognition purpose. The proposed approach is applied to hand and human posture recognition in order to verify the efficiency of the feature extraction.

  • This paper focuses on building a generalized mood classification model with many mood classes instead of a personalized one with few mood classes. Two methods are adopted to improve the performance of mood classification. The one of them is feature reduction based on standard deviation of feature values, which is designed to solve the problem of lowered performance when all 391 features provided by MIR toolbox used to extract features of music. The experiments show that the feature reduction methods suggested in this paper have better performance than that of the conventional dimension reduction methods, R-Square and PCA. As performance improvement by feature reduction only is subject to limit, modular neural network is used as another method to improve the performance. The experiments show that the method also improves performance effectively.

  • Distance Fourier descriptors of local target boundary and feature information fusion using multiple MLPs (Multilayer perceptrons) are proposed. They are used to identify nonoccluded and partially occluded targets in natural FLIR (forward-looking infrared) images. After segmenting a target, radial Fourier descriptors as global shape features are defined from the target boundary. A target boundary is partitioned into four local boundaries to extract local shape features. In a local boundary, a distance function is defined from boundary points and a line between two extreme points. Distance Fourier descriptors as local shape features are defined by using distance function. One global feature vector and four local feature vectors are used as input data for multiple MLPs to determine final identification result of the target. In the experiments, we show that the proposed method is superior to the traditional feature sets with respect to the identification performance.

  • The multitree pattern recognition algorithm proposed by [1] and [2] is modified in order to improve its performance. The basic idea of the multitree pattern classification algorithm is that the binary dceision tree used to classify an unknow pattern is constructed for each feature and that at each stage, classification rule decides whether to classify the unknown pattern or to extract the feature value according to the feature ordet. So the feature ordering needed in the calssification procedure is simple and the number of features used in the classification procedure is small compared with other classification algorithms. Thus the algorithm can be easily applied to real pattern recognition problems even when the number of features and that of the classes are very large. In this paper, the wighting factor assignment scheme in the decision procedure is modified and various classification rules are proposed by means of the weighting factor. And the branch and bound method is applied to feature subset selection and feature ordering. Several experimental results show that the performance of the multitree pattern classification algorithm is improved by the proposed scheme.

  • There are four types of human beings according to the Sasang Typology, Oriental medical doctors frequently prescribe healthcare information and treatment depending on one's type, The feature ratios (Table 1) on the human face are the most important criterions to decide which type a patient is. In this paper, we proposed a system to extract these feature ratios from the people's side face, There are two challenges in acquiring the feature ratio: one that selecting representative features; the other, that detecting region of interest from human profile facial image effectively and calculating the feature ratio accurately. In our system, an adaptive color model is used to separate human side face from background, and the method based on geometrical model is designed for region of interest detection. Then we present the error analysis caused by image variation in terms of image size and head pose, To verify the efficiency of the system proposed in this paper, several experiments are conducted using about 173 korean's left side facial photographs. Experiment results shows that the accuracy of our system is increased 17,99% after we combine the front face features with the side face features, instead of using the front face features only.

  • Automated classification systems which utilize machine learning develops classification models through learning process, and then classify unknown data into predefined set of categories according to the model. The performance of machine learning-based classification systems relies greatly upon the quality of features composing classification models. For textual data, we can use their word terms and structure information in order to generate the set of features. Particularly, in order to extract feature from Web documents, we need to analyze tag and hyperlink information. Recent studies on Web document classification focus on feature engineering technology other than machine learning algorithms themselves. Thus this paper proposes a novel method of incorporating feature selection and weighting which can improves classification models effectively. Through extensive experiments using Web-KB document collections, the proposed method outperforms conventional ones.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient feature extaetion method for content-based approach and implement an image retrieval system in the Oracle database. First, we estract color feature by the modified Stricker's method from input images, and this color feature and ART2 neural network are used for the rough classification of images. Next, we extract texture feature using wavelet transform, and finally exeute the detailed classification on the rough classified images from the previous step. Exsing the proposed feature extraction methods, we implement a useful image retrieval system by Extended SQI, statement on the relational database. The proposed system is implemented on the Oracle DBMS, and in the experimental results with 200 sample images, it shows the retrieval rate 90% and 81% in Recall and Precision, respectively.

  • In medium- and long-range optical imaging systems, atmospheric turbulence causes blurring and distortion of images, resulting in loss of image information. An image-restoration method based on an adaptive feature-fusion multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) dense U-shaped network (Unet) is proposed, to restore a single image degraded by atmospheric turbulence. The network's model is based on the MIMO-Unet framework and incorporates patch-embedding shallow-convolution modules. These modules help in extracting shallow features of images and facilitate the processing of the multi-input dense encoding modules that follow. The combination of these modules improves the model's ability to analyze and extract features effectively. An asymmetric feature-fusion module is utilized to combine encoded features at varying scales, facilitating the feature reconstruction of the subsequent multi-output decoding modules for restoration of turbulence-degraded images. Based on experimental results, the adaptive feature-fusion MIMO dense U-shaped network outperforms traditional restoration methods, CMFNet network models, and standard MIMO-Unet network models, in terms of image-quality restoration. It effectively minimizes geometric deformation and blurring of images.
