Gold contents with major and trace elements have been determined in 67 fresh igneous and altered wall rocks in the acid-sulfate alteration zone of the Ogmaesan-Seongsan pyrophyllite deposits in the Haenam area of the south-western part of Korean peninsula. The results are as follows; (1) Li contents have a tendency to show high value in dickite and altered rocks with dickite, while As, Mo and Sb contents have tendencies to show high values in alunite vein and silicified zone. F contents are higher in the altered rocks compared to fresh rocks. (2) Gold contents are enriched in alunite vein and silicified zone of the Seongsan deposit, but depleted in dickite and altered rock with dickite. Gold contents are especially concentrated in fault or conjunction area of two faults. (3) Gold contents are higher values in the mineral assemblages of alunite-quartz-pyrite and alteration zone of the Seongsan deposit among the studied deposits. (4) Gold contents in samples of silicified zones tend to show positive correlations with Ag, As, Co, Hg, Sb and V content, but negative correlations with Y and Zr contents, while on the other gold contents of silicified tuffs tend to show positive correlations with Hg and Sb contents. Therefore it is important to survey alunite vein and silicified zone at the conjunction of faults, and to analyze pathfinder elements such as Ag, As, Hg and Sb for geological and geochemical exploration of gold in the studied deposits.
2-D wavelet analysis is applied to bathymetric data from the KR1 area of Korea Deepsea Mining Area. The wavelet analysis is one of the quantitative methods to analyze the topography. The wavelet allows us to create filters to select for topography in a continuous variety of shapes, sizes, and orientation. The 2-D Linear B-spline filter, 100 BS and 100 NF, is convolved with bathymetric data to identify the location of abyssal hills and abyssal troughs in bathymetry. In addition, the 2-D derivative of Cubic B-spline filter, 60 BS and 60 NF, is applied to bathymetric data to find the slope of abyssal hill in bathymetry. These filters were rotated $5^{\circ}$ counterclockwise from NS to match the dominant orientation of seafloor lineament. Both filters result in good match with abyssal hills, troughs, and slopes. This method can apply to fault, fold, and other lineament structures description with variable size. The result of application shows that wavelet analysis of bathymetric data could be used with fundamental data of geophysical analysis.

In this case, powerfulness quorum of destruction side which we have expected are supposed general limit value for rock floor when retaining of earth on the section of rock floor in the urban area. For digging in the urban area, there are a lot of dislocations to be disadvantage for safety of digging ants. The displacement of the pondside didn't converged with the phase of the excavation. Also, the speed of displacement got higher than the percentages of risk in the construction. So, we put into operation Face mapping for checking special quality of dislocations which appear on the digging ants. This results were used to decide a destruction in the case of the final excavation by analyzing with other results. It was possible to know the unstable distribution of a fault line in Face Mapping and to get powerful lens of a surface of discontinuity by tests indoors and outdoors. The results were also used to make a solution. Therefore, It's a successful example using the Partial TopDown for stable digging. And it is important that Face Mapping have to be practiced for solving the uncertainty of ground organization when digging design in the urban city.
The study area is located in between Hacheonri and Weolgulri, Jecheon-gun where the formations of Okcheon group and Chosun group come in contact and the stratigraphy and geological age of the Okcheon group have been debated among previous workers. The dolomitic limestone which distributed at Cheongam and Dumusil is clarified as the Hyangsanri dolomite formation and the quartzite distributed at Cheongam and Howeunri as Taehyangsan quartzite formation. The newly named Soorumsan schist interbedded in the Great Limestone Series was previously classified Seochangri formation. It is also classified that the formation formerly named as Seochangri was divided into newly named Manji schist which seems to be correlated to Kemyeongsan and Munjuri formation. The formation formerly named as Buknori is clarified as Hwanggangri formation. The Samtaesan formation has been clarified as the lower and upper limestone beds which belong to the Great Limestone Series. The area divided into two groups, that is, Okcheon system of Pre-cambrian age occupies western part and the Great Limestone Series of Chosun system of Cambro-Ordovician age eastern part of this area. Okcheon system consists in ascending order of Manji schist, Hyangsanri dolomite, Taehyangsan quartzite, Munjuri schist, and Hwanggangri formation of meta-tillite. The Great Limestone Series of Chosun group consists in ascending order of lower limestone, Soorumsan schist, Hoosanri quartzite and upper limestone formations. Busan augen gneiss seems to be igneous origin. Unmetamorphosed shale interbed can be traced in the Soorumsan schist. Previous study (Kims, 1974) reveals that meta-volcanic rocks are distributed from south to north along contact zone of the Okcheon and Chosun groups, and it has been confirmed that the meta-volcanics crop out continuously from the adjacent southern quardrangle into the southern part of the area studied, intruding along the fault zone between the Okcheon and Chosun groups which seems to be upthrust as in the area south. This evidence coincides with Kims' work (1974) which states that the Precambrian Okcheon group is largely overturned and thrusted over the Chosun group.

Ground subsidence has occurred in the downtown of Muan-eup in Korea. Integrated geophysical survey, including two-dimensional resistivity, CSMT(Controlled source magnetotelluric), magnetic, borehole logging, GPR and resistivity tomography, has been conducted to investigate the cause of subsidence and ground conditions. Since the target area is in the city downtown, there were no spaces for surface geophysical methods. To get regional geology and to facilitate the detailed geophysical interpretation in the survey area, two-dimensional resistivity, CSMT and magnetic surveys have been applied in the outer region of the downtown. From these results, we could accurately define the Gwangju fault system and estimate the geologic conditions in the downtown. For the detailed survey of the downtown area, resistivity tomography and borehole logging data have been acquired using a few tens of densely located boreholes. Among these survey results, borehole logging data provided the guide to classification of the rock type and we could define the geologic boundary of granite and limestone formations. From the resistivity tomograms of 42 sections, which are densely located enough to be interpreted in a three-dimensional manner, we could delineate the possible weak zones or cavities in the limestone formations. In particular, resistivity tomograms in the subsided area showed the real image of ground subsidence. The map of hazardous zone has been derived from the joint interpretation of these survey results and we could provide the possible reinforcement strategy in this area.
Large-scale wireless sensor network are expected to play an increasingly important role for the data collection in harmful area. However, the physical fragility of sensor node makes reliable routing in harmful area a challenging problem. Since several sensor nodes in harmful area could be damaged all at once, the network should have the availability to recover routing from node failures in large area. Many routing protocols take accounts of failure recovery of single node but it is very hard these protocols to recover routing from large scale failures. In this paper, we propose a routing protocol, which we refer to as LSFA, to recover network fast from failures in large area. LSFA detects the failure by counting the packet loss from parent node and in case of failure detection LSFAdecreases the routing interval to notify the failure to the neighbor nodes. Our experimental results indicate clearly that LSFA could recover large area failures fast with less packets than previous protocols.

The purpose of this study is to examine potential as a geological field course of Odongdo located to the east of Yeosu city, Korea. The total area and the height from the sea level of Odongdo is about 0.13km2 and 42m, respectively. Odongdo area belongs to the Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park, and is famous for rock scenery in the rocky coast and living of rare plants. For this study, diversity of geomorphology and geology was investigated at the sites called as dragon cave, windy area, seal rocks, sunrise viewing platform, second seashore rocks and first seashore rocks along the coast of Odongdo. The results of this study are as follows: A lot of geomorphological and geological resources like sea cliff, sea cave, strata, various sedimentary rocks(conglomerate, sandstone, mudstone), andesite, fault and examples of rock weathering were found in the rocky coast of the study area. These field resources are pertinent to the field work materials for the teaching and learning of geology units in elementary school science. Odongdo is to be recommended as a site of outdoor geological field course for the elementary school students inhabited in Yeosu city and neighborhood area because each site of the rocky coast in this study area has various field work materials and the wide space for observe activities, and is equipped with the facilities as a trail for rock observation.
The near fault ground motion (NFGM) is characterized by a single long period velocity pulse with large magnitude. NFGMs have been observed in recent strong earthquakes, Northridge (1994), Japan Kobe (1995), Turkey Izmit (1999), China Sichuan (2008), Haiti (2010) etc. These strong earthquakes have caused considerable damage to infrastructures because the epicenter was close to the urban area, called as NFGM. Extensive research for the far field ground motion (FFGM) have been carried out in strong seismic region, but limited research have been done for NFGM in low or moderate seismic regions because of very few records. The purpose of this research is to investigate and analyze the seismic response of reinforced concrete bridge piers subjected to near-fault ground motions. The seismic performance of six RC bridge piers depending on three confinement steel ratios and three superstructure mass was investigated on the shaking table. From these experimental results, it was confirmed that the reduction of seismic performance was observed for test specimens with lower confinement steel ratio or more deck weight. The displacement ductility of RC bridge piers in terms of the stiffness degradation is proposed based on test results the shaking table.
This study was conducted to identify the causes of the unusually high number of rock slope failures during an expressway construction in Yangsan fault system. The shear strength (cohesion and internal friction angle) of 128 slopes of discontinuities including bedding, joint, and fault planes were re-evaluated through the examination of face mapping and back analysis. The re-evaluated values were analyzed and then compared with the existing data and values used in the design. As a result, the re-evaluated cohesion and friction angles were very low compared to the existing data and the values applied in the design. This incongruity was pointed as the primary reason for the rock slopes failures during the construction. This may be related to the inherent features of clastic sedimentary rocks in the study area, and the discontinuities in the sedimentary rocks in this region played a significant role. Especially, bedding discontinuity showed a big difference compared to the existing data. The shear strength depended on the type of discontinuity in case of clay filled in discontinuity. However, shear strength was independent on the type of discontinuity in case of shattered materials filled in discontinuity.

This study examined the effects of stacking faults on the thermoelectric properties for n-type SiC semiconductors. Porous SiC semiconductors with 30~42 % porosity were fabricated by the heat treatment of pressed -SiC powder compacts at 1600~2100 ℃ for 20~120 min in an N2 atmosphere. XRD was performed to examine the stacking faults, lattice strain, and precise lattice parameters of the specimens. The porosity and surface area were analyzed, and SEM, TEM, and HRTEM were carried out to examine the microstructure. The electrical conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient were measured at 550~900 ℃ in an Ar atmosphere. The electrical conductivity increased with increasing heat treatment temperature and time, which might be due to an increase in carrier concentration and improvement in grain-to-grain connectivity. The Seebeck coefficients were negative due to nitrogen behaving as a donor, and their absolute values also increased with increasing heat treatment temperature and time. This might be due to a decrease in stacking fault density, i.e., a decrease in stacking fault density accompanied by grain growth and crystallite growth must have increased the phonon mean free path, enhancing the phonon-drag effect, leading to a larger Seebeck coefficient.
