A Study on Life Style and Clothing Purchasing Behaviors of Female Consumers - Focused on Comparison with Adolescence, Middle Age, and Senescence - (여성 소비자의 라이프 스타일과 의복 구매 행동에 관한 연구 - 청년층, 중년층, 노년층을 대상으로 -)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate life style and various clothing purchasing behaviors of female consumers, and to analyze the differences of life style and clothing purchasing behaviors by 3 age groups(adolescence, middle age, and senescence). The subjects were 750 adult women aged from twenties to sixties who live in Daejeon and Chungnam province. The research method is a survey and research instruments consisted of life style questionnaire, clothing purchasing behaviors questionnaires, and demographic attribution. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, variance analysis, Duncan's multiple range test and $X^2$ test, using SPSS program. The research results are follows. First, 6 factors were emerged in life style(appearance-oriented, achieve-oriented, social life-oriented, economic- oriented, equality of sexes-oriented, and leisure- oriented). Second, 5 factors were emerged in shopping orientation(resonable shopping, conspicuous shopping, voluptuous shopping, devoted shopping, and convenient shopping). Third, clothing purchasing behaviors of adult women showed many differences by age groups. Adolescence women considered more criterion including design, price, and color or pattern, purchased their clothing by psychological reason such as fashion change, and used internet as important source of clothing, whereas senescence women purchased by physical reason such as body size change and functional trouble, used friend and sales person as important source of clothing, and purchased clothing at department store and old style market.

Effects of Consumer's Characteristics on Trust and Purchase Intention of On-line Shopping Mall -Focusing on Chinese Users of Internet Shopping Mall- (소비자 특성이 온라인 쇼핑몰에 대한 신뢰와 구매의도에 미치는 영향 -중국 인터넷쇼핑몰 사용자를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Chinese consumer characteristics as internal inclination on the trust and purchase intention of on-line shopping mall. Two hundred sixty subjects, who were living in Shanghai, China and were university students, were randomly selected for questionnaire. The effective two hundred forty four questionnaires were used to conduct reliability tests for internal consistency and multiple regressions for relationship between independent and dependent variables with SPSS 10.0. The results from this study were as follows. It showed a significant relationship between the on-line shopping experience, consumer innovation, consumer risk and the trust of on-line shopping mall, however, it didn't show any significant relationship between convenience shopping orientation and the trust of on-line shopping mall. Also, It showed a significant relationship between the on-line shopping experience, consumer innovation and the distrust of on-line shopping mall, however, it didn't show any significant relationship between consumer risk, convenience shopping orientation and the distrust of on-line shopping mall. It showed a significant relationship between purchase intension, the consumer risk and on-line shopping experience which appeared a high trust in on-line shopping mall, however, it didn't show any significant relationship between purchase intension and consumer innovation which appeared a high distrust. Therefore, it could be concluded that in China it is decreasing to purchase through the internet shopping mall every year because the group of consumer innovation, which most of internet users in China belong to it, distrusts the internet shopping mall.

The Effects of Consumption Value of Outdoor Female Consumers on Relationship Quality and Long-term Relationship Orientation (아웃도어 여성소비자의 소비가치가 관계품질 및 장기관계지향성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study analyzed the effects of consumption value of outdoor female consumers on relationship quality and long-term relationship orientation as well as differences in consumption value, relationship quality and long-term relationship orientation by demographic characteristics. A survey was conducted from May 15-22, 2016; subsequently, 336 responses were used in the analysis. Statistical analysis methods consisted of frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis. The results indicate that the consumption value of outdoor female consumers was composed of functional value, emotional value, epistemic value, situational value, and social value. Relationship quality was composed of satisfaction, commitment, and trust. Consumption value (functional value, emotional value, epistemic value, situational value, and social value) of outdoor female consumers positively affected satisfaction. Emotional value, epistemic value and situational value positively affected commitment; in addition, functional value and emotional value positively affected trust. Satisfaction, commitment, and trust about outdoor brand also positively affected the long-term relationship orientation; in addition, consumption value positively affected long-term relationship orientation. There were significant differences in the consumption value and relationship quality by age and marital status. The study results provide useful information for the marketing strategies of outdoor brands that consider female consumers.

Cognitive, Emotional and Behavioral Responses on In-Store Shopping Environment according to Apparel Shopping Orientation (의류쇼핑성향에 따른 점포 내 환경에 대한 인지적${\cdot}$감정적${\cdot}$행동적 반응)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the difference on the consumer's cognitive response, emotional and behavioral response in regard of the in-store shopping environment according to their apparel shopping orientation. The subjects of this study were consumers who finished shopping in the stores, and 300 questionnaires were completed. Data collected in this survey were analyzed by using Factor analysis, Cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA and Duncan test as a post identification. The results were as follows; 1. A significant difference was found on cognitive responses in regard of the in-store environment, such as a store atmosphere, salespeople, the assortment of products, and the fashion of products, according to types of apparel shopping orientation. The hedonic shopping type tended to have the higher evaluation toward a store atmosphere and salespeople than did other types. 2. Results showed statistically significant differences on emotional responses such as the outward/inward pleasure and outward/inward displeasure of the in-store shopping environment according to apparel shopping orientation types. The outward pleasure was found most highly in the high involvement shopping type. 3. There were significant differences on behavioral responses of the in-store shopping environment, such as the shopping satisfaction, the store revisit intention, recommending to others, and the unexpected consumption, according to apparel shopping orientation types.

Middle-school boys' shoes purchasing behavior according to their shoes shopping orientation (남자 중학생들의 신발 쇼핑성향에 따른 신발 구매행동)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify middle-school boys' purchase behavior according to their shoes shopping orientation. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect from 314 subjects. Factor analysis, Chi-square test, and one-way ANOVA were done using SPSS PC (Ver. 18.0). Most middle-school boys selected shoes that were 255~270mm, possessed on to two pairs of school shoes, searched for information for about five days before purchase, had spent 50,000~150,000 won on one to two pairs of shoes during the previous six months, saw design, comfort, and brand as their selection criteria, chose their shoes by themselves, shoes specialty stores, had favorite brands, preferred athletic shoes made of achromatic canvas, and bought new shoes when their old ones wore out. Factors of shoe shopping orientation were fashion and brand, economy, conformity, and comfort, and students were grouped into an active shopping group, an underdeveloped shopping orientation group, and a value pursuit group. The active shopping group bought more shoes, spent more on shoes, selected their shoes themselves, patronized discount shoe stores or specialty stores, and preferred national brand shoes. The underdeveloped shopping orientation group accepted their friends' opinions when selecting shoes and bought cheaper shoes. The value pursuit group accepted their parents' opinions when selecting shoes, patronized internet shopping malls or traditional markets, and selected cheaper shoes. The shoe shopping orientation of middle-school boys was immature, but they showed strong consumption needs.

The Effects of Perception of Appearance Importance on Sportswear Benefits Sought, Evaluative Criteria, and Image Preferences of Female Consumers (여성의 외모 중요도 지각이 스포츠웨어 추구혜택, 선택기준, 선호이미지에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of appearance perception on sportswear benefits sought, evaluative criteria, and sportswear image preferences. The subjects were 530 female sportswear consumers who were residents in Seoul. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, multiple regression, ANOVA, and Duncan test. The results showed that there were two appearance perception factors: appearance interest and weight interest. Sportswear benefits sought had five factors of ideal figure/sex appeal, status ostentation, individuality/fashion, comfort, and youth-orientation. Sportswear evaluative criteria consisted of function, brand/fashion, and design factors. Sportswear image preferences had four factors: innovative, luxurious, simple, and active. Statistical analyses showed that there were significant effects of appearance perception on sportswear benefits sought, evaluative criteria, and sportswear image preferences. For example, the consumers who were interested in their appearances sought the benefits of ideal figure/sex appeal, status ostentation, individual/fashion in sportswear. Also, they considered brand/fashion and design as important criteria and preferred innovative and luxurious sportswear images.

Shopping for Oneself : Motives and Orientations of Small Luxury Purchase as Self-Gifting

  • Small luxury purchase as self-gifting is one of the latest consumer trends in self-gifting. Although this consumption trend continues to grow in various fields, little research has been conducted on related consumer behavior. As such, this study was conducted to empirically investigate the current consumer behavior involved in purchase of small luxury self-gifts. The objectives of this study are to determine the current status of self-gifts markets, identify motives and orientations of self-gifting, and investigate the effects of the motives on self-gifts orientations. A total of 199 respondents were used in data analyses. Regarding motives for self-gifting, four motives - self-comfort, self-reward, anxiety, and showing off - were identified; regarding self-gifting orientations, five factors - rationalization (emotional comfort, product attributes, self-defense, and conformity) and the luxury being within one's spending limit - were identified. The study determined the effects of the motives on the orientations, and the effects of the motives and the orientations on post-purchase consumer reaction. This study conducted an empirical investigation on small luxury self-gifting and moreover, the study determined the motives, orientations, and consequences of self-gifting, which have not yet been explained in the literature.

The Impact of Lifestyle Factors on Clothing Purchase Motives, Information Use, and Selection Criteria in Male College Students (남자대학생의 라이프 스타일 요인이 의복의 구매동기, 정보원활용, 의복선택기준에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of lifestyle factors on clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria in male college students. The sample included 241 male college students, and an instrument was developed based on the previous studies. The statistical analyses used for this study were factor analysis and multiple regression. The result of factor analysis showed that lifestyle consisted of six factors : clothing interest, serif-confidence, social participation, planned clothing purchase, family-orientation, and conservativeness. Clothing purchase motives consisted of conspicuous consumption motives, fashion and individuality motives, and economic motives. Clothing information use consisted of four factors: paper/display, personal advice, fashion show/clothing observation, and electronic media. Finally. clothing selection criteria consisted of practicability, fashion/individuality, and conformity, Multip1e regression revealed that there were significant effects of lifestyle factors on clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria. For example, self-confidence factor had a negative impact on conspicuous consumption motive, personal advice information use, and fashion/individuality criteria. The relative importance of lifestyle factors were different according to different dimensions of clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria.

A Comparative Analysis of Virtual Clothing Materials Using a Digital Clothing (디지털 클로딩을 활용한 가상의복의 소재별 비교분석)

  • A comprehensive research must be conducted on manufacturing techniques such as patterns and sewing, with the understanding of material properties to satisfy consumers' emotions with a strong fashion trend orientation. Physical and emotional characteristics may change depending on the characteristics of the material, and the overall silhouette and feeling of the garment can change depending on how sewing is conducted.To examine the completeness of a finished garment depending on different kinds of clothing material, this study fabricated an actual garment and a 3D virtual garment as well using 3D CAD IMAGE SYSTEM (CLO 3D, DC Suite, etc.) for a comparative analysis. These two methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. This study selected five of the most representative clothing materials and conducted a comparative analysis on appearance differences between actual clothing and virtual clothing by material. Additionally, the study verified the similarity between actual clothing and virtual clothing by comparing their physical properties by material, and evaluated the objectivity and accuracy of the reproducibility of material properties of virtual clothing.

Impact of Individual's Regulatory Focus on Value Perceptions of and Willingness to Invest towards Online Mass-Customized Fashion

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of consumers' regulatory focus on their perceived values of the product as well as shopping process, and willingness to invest resources for online mass-customized products. Data were collected using an online survey from 251 young adult consumers, particularly those who have prior purchase experience of mass-customized products. Interpretation of results indicated that consumers' promotion regulatory focus impacted their perceived values of the product (social, emotional, monetary, and epistemic but not performance), perceived values of the shopping process (hedonic and utilitarian), and willingness to invest more money, time and effort. However, as anticipated, prevention regulatory focus had no significant influence on the dependent variables. Researchers provide crucial implications for brands of online mass-customized products to segment their market based on regulatory orientation, as well as better cater to customer demands by positioning their products as offering benefits that specifically caters to the needs of such consumers.
