The regression analysis in the six sigma process is used to reduce the vibration of an electric grinder. The vibration characteristics and the contribution of each part to overall vibration of the electric grinder is investigated through various vibration measurements and frequency analysis for the assembled and disassembled one. Then the application of the regression analysis finds out that the rotating components of the armature have more severe contributions to the overall vibration than the frequency components of the fan or the gear part, which is decided with higher value of the coefficient of determination. The unbalance and looseness of the armature and the fan are tested again by the regression analysis in order to decide how much unbalance or looseness should be reduced for the predetermined goal of vibration level of the electric grinder. These results show that the regression analysis can be a valuable tool in production line to decide where and how much faults needs to be adjusted for the reduction of vibration and noise.

In this study, investigation and appraisal method for the scene of a fire according to electrical fire hazards of hair dryer which is usually used at living space are presented. Hair dryer is briefly composed of heating part, wind part and control part. Electrical fire hazards of hair dryer are insulation destruction of power cord, ignition by overheat of heating coil, scattering spark on inside dust, overheat of motor by fan shackle, ignition by carelessness of user, and so on. Fire cause by hair dryer can be perceived through investigation about half-disconnection of power cord, contact badness of power plug, verification of heating coil, fan and switch. These results are expected to be utilized effectively in a countermeasure to prevent an electrical fire by hair dryer.

3D Equivalent magnetic Circuit Network Method (EMCNM) is comparatively the easy way that analyzes 3D models of Electric Machine by using permeance as a distributive magnetic circuit parameter under the existing magnetic equivalent circuit method and Numerical Method. The existing 3D EMCNM could not correctly describe the shape of an analysis target when using rectangular shape element or fan shape element, so it made errors when calculating permeance. Therefore, this paper proposes the trapezoidal element contained rectangular element, fan-shape element, and quadrilateral element to express a shape. The proposed method in this research was confirmed as a useful and an accurate method through comparing with the analysis result of SRM model that is sufficiently guaranteed by 2D-Analysis.

This study is on a experiment which shows to defrost automatically on the optimum time regardless of defrosting method. The result shows that the more defrost layers increase in fin tubes of evaporation, the less the section of the circulating air reduce. Thickness of the frost formation increases, so a pressure difference of ventilation increase, as a result automatic defrosting system sets the time COP drops suddenly up optimum time. Automatical defrosting system can find out the initial related current of evaporator fan motor and the value of load current in the optimum time. And it sets defrosting time, evaporating temperature, and temperature in refrigerator up system requiring value. Consequence of this experiment is that energy consumption with defrost load gets effect of reduction of eleven percent per 25.4 hours compared with common defrosting.
The amount of inflowing Air into the boiler has controlled by manipulating the opening of valve, damper and vane, as fan operated by induction motor operats at constant speed, but these control methods are not efficient. Thus VVVf(Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) control of fan has selected to improve efficiency and to acquire power savings. Control system of Air Flow is affected by nonlinearity caused by load variation, vane opening, etc. The analysis of control parameter causing nonlinearity is needed to acquire optimal control and excellent transient response. This paper provides modeling of boiler with various load conditions and vane opening, and analysis of this system.

This pap4er analyzes resonance characteristics of a slave motor that is not controlled by load and parameter differences between Dual motors during parallel operation in middle-low speed. Dual SPMSMs(Surface mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) connected in parallel to a single inverter controlled by the master and slave control in this paper. Based on the stability analysis of the SPMSM for a variation of torque angle, the 6th nonlinear state equation of the torque angle variation in the SIMM(Single Inverter Multi Motor) structure is derived according to a mathematical model for the dual motors. In general, an analysis of the 6th order nonlinear state equation is complex. Therefore, a resonance frequency generated from the slave motor is found from the characteristic equation of the 2nd order system obtained by linearization and model reduction near steady state operation point. Through simulations and experiments, it is confirmed that the stability analysis of the SPMSMs and state equation models are useful for the variation of the torque angle analyzed in this paper.

PM synchronous motor may be rotated to an arbitrary direction and speed by outside wind under natural condition in cases where the fan is applied outside, such as in vehicle radiators and outdoor air-conditioners. Sensorless controls that cannot detect rotor position requires additional sensorless control algorithm because a rotor is rotated by an external load. In this study, the sensorless control of a PM synchronous motor under naturally rotating condition is proposed. The natural rotation conditions are classified as forward high-speed rotation, reverse high-speed rotation, and low-speed rotation. Experiment results verify the performance of the sensorless control, including the rotor speed and position detection at natural rotation mode and switch to the closed-loop sensorless control.

An innovative interpretation of the per-unit interior permanent magnet (IPM) machine model known as Design Space is presented in this paper. Based on the proposed Design Space formulation, an effective computation method to predict IPM machine performance factors, such as the current and power factor in a full range of speeds, is proposed. A systematic methodology is summarized, which translates the full speed range machine design procedure into the region determination on the so-called Design Space. The effect of dc-link voltage is also analyzed in a similar manner with the current and power factor. A series of IPM motors have been designed, and a preferred motor is selected with the help of the proposed Design Space Methodology (DSM), which has the best tradeoff between the nominal voltage and the dropped voltage condition. Experiment results show that the selected motor satisfies the machine requirements and all the design constrains, such as the current and back-EMF limitations.
In this paper, a novel 12/8 segmental rotor type switched reluctance motor (SRM) is proposed for cooling fan applications. Unlike conventional structures, the rotor of the proposed structure is constructed from a series of discrete segments, and the stator is constructed from two types of stator poles: exciting and auxiliary poles. Moreover, in this structure, short flux paths are taken and no flux reversion exists in the stator. While the auxiliary poles are not wound by the windings, which only provide the flux return path. When compared with the conventional SRM, the proposed structure increases the electrical utilization of the machine and decreases the core losses, which may lead to a higher efficiency. To verify the proposed structure, the finite element method (FEM) and Matlab-Simulink are employed to get the static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed SRM. Finally, a prototype of the proposed motor was tested for characteristic comparisons.

In this study, noise radiated from a high-speed fan-motor unit for a cordless vacuum cleaner is reduced by designing splitter blades on the existing impeller. First of all, in order to investigate the flow field through a fan-motor unit, especially impeller, the unsteady incompressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are numerically solved by using computational fluid dynamic technique. With predicted flow field results as input, the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H) integral equation is solved to predict aerodynamic noise radiated from the impeller. The validity of the numerical methods is confirmed by comparing the predicted sound pressure spectrum with the measured one. Further analysis of the predicted flow field shows that the strong vortex is formed between the impeller blades. As the vortex induces the loss of the flow field and acts as an aerodynamic noise source, supplementary splitter blades are designed to the existing impeller to suppress the identified vortex. The length and position of splitter are selected as design factors and the effect of each design factor on aerodynamic noise is numerically analyzed by using the Taguchi method. From this results, the optimum location and length of splitter for minimum radiated noise is determined. The finally selected design shows lower noise than the existing one.
