Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the impacts of stroke patients' general and disease-related properties on depression and family support. Methods: Subjects consisted of 79 persons who were diagnosed with cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction and met the criteria for selection. The Korean version of Beck depression inventory (BDI) and a revision of the family support developed by Cobb were used. Frequency analysis of the subjects' general and medical history properties was conducted, and one way ANOVA was utilized to evaluate the degree of depression and family support with respect to the properties. Pearson's correlation coefficient was conducted to investigate the degree of depression and family support. Results: Participants showed no significant difference in depression based on the subjects' general and disease-related properties (p>0.05), although there were significant differences in family support based on marital status, hobbies and the medical expenses payers (p<0.05). The correlation between family support and depression was r=-0.491 (p<0.01). Conclusion: Through the results of this study, it was found that general and disease-related properties would not have any impact on depression while they would affect family support.
Purpose: The study explored the meaning of experiences within a family art therapy process among terminal cancer patients and their families. Methods: Ten participants, including four terminal cancer patients currently admitted to the hospice ward at an inpatient hospice facility in S City and four caregiving family members, engaged in four cycles of family art therapy sessions. The sessions were conducted weekly or bi-weekly, and each lasted approximately 50 minutes. Results: Nine cross-case themes emerged: "feeling unfamiliar and intimidated by the idea of expressing my thoughts through art," "trying to accept the present and positively overcome sadness," "expressing hope through emotional bonds during the process of parting," "conveying and preserving personal and family beliefs," "feeling upset about family imbalances caused by deteriorating health," "valuing togetherness and striving for stability amidst the current challenges," "art as a medium of empowerment for patients and facilitator of family conversations, even amidst difficulties," "sharing a range of emotions-not just joy, but concerns and sorrow-through art," and "gratitude for art' s role in improving family communication and connection through artwork. Conclusion: The findings of this study lead to several conclusions. First, patients and their families faced psychological challenges when confronted with impending death, yet they strove to remain optimistic by seeking meaning in their struggles. Second, families practiced open and expressive communication, sharing a spectrum of complex emotions with one another. Third, even as the patient's condition worsened, resulting in family fatigue, their support and cohesion strengthened.
The purpose of this study is to develop and verify the effectiveness of a group art therapy program to help children from multicultural families adapt to school life by using Kinetic School Drawing(KSD). The result of this study showed that the group art therapy program of the multicultural family's children may have a positive effect in aiding their school life adaptation. The results showed considerable and statistical outcome in the fore and after drawing inspection of the dynamic KSD. Also, the size of the self-image became bigger and their expressions has been increased. The qualitative analysis also showed a huge change in dynamistic personal relationships due to the relationship with their peers with the same aged and the tutor. This study emphasizes the importance of the group art therapy program to be applied before children are admitted to school because of growing recognition of concern about the maladjustment of rapidly growing multicultural family's children. It is also suggests that the group art therapy program of growing multicultural family's children should be viewed with an ecological point of view.
This study explored the sandplay therapy case of a 5th grade boy who was living in a small income fatherless family from the viewpoints of both sandplay theory and related literatures. The goal of the therapy was to lessen his difficulties under the free and protected space of sandplay therapy. This study comprised 59 sessions of sandplay therapy. The subject exhibited his situations in the initial parts of therapy(1~5, the preparation for war against enemies) by putting miniatures related to Egypt and by placing Indians who were keeping the house from enemies. In the intermediate sessions(6~47, holding a ceremony), he repeated burning rituals, played finding treasures, and exhibited both struggle and construction. In the final parts(48~59, integration), he showed integration by expressing the adaptation to the collective. This study indicated the effectiveness of sandplay therapy, because his maladjustments in both school and home were reduced.
This study investigated the problems of remarried wife with alcoholic problem. Specifically, this study regarded the wife's alcoholic problem as the problems of dysfunctional interaction among family members rather than an individual problem. Second, what were the characteristics of remarried family relating to family conflict? Third, what were the interventions of family therapy to resolve the conflicts of remarried family? The total family counseling was 9 sessions, which included individual, couple, and family counseling. The study used constant comparative analysis by using open coding method to find the factors relating interactions sustaining the conflict of remarried family, the characteristics of remarried family relating to family conflict, and the interventions of family therapy to resolve the conflicts of remarried family. Also, the study used Miles and Huberman's matrix and graphical network display to show the interaction of family members. The study found intriguing factors, counteracting factors, relationship level, and relational elements to wife's alcoholic problems among family members. The study revealed husband's rigid family rules, husband's execution of patriarchal authority, husband's pursuit of family identity, and husband's emphasis of union among family members as the characteristics of remarried family. On the other hand, the study found the reinforcement of spousal subsystem, the pursuit of change in communication pattern between husband and wife, the amelioration of rigid family rules, and the acceptance of differences among family members as the intervention of family therapy to resolve the conflicts of remarried family.
This study examined the factors affecting the client's binge drinking, and the client and parents' change led by family therapy. From August to November 2011, the counseling case of this research was consisted of a total of 9 sessions-individual, parents, mother-daughter, father-daughter, and family counseling. This study utilized verbatim and audio recordings, and employed Miles and Huberman(1994) matrix and network to analyze the data. The findings of the study revealed that the factors that influenced the client's binge drinking included the family's dysfunctional communication method, adverse rearing attitude owing to unresolved emotional problems from the family-of-origin, and the client family's peculiar environment and culture. The therapist's intervention included making the client aware of his own problem, helping to gain insight and understand the parents' family-of-origin, connecting the past family-of-origin and the present, identifying attempted solutions, making aware of new change, and suggesting new communication methods. Through the therapist's intervention employing MRI interactional family therapy model and Bowen's family systems theory, the family members experienced changes; perception of all family members that participated in the counseling changed, and accordingly, their communication method and attitude changed as well. Through these changes in the family, the client's alcohol consumption reduced in terms of both frequency and amount, thus was able to solve their binge drinking problem.
