This study was designed to determine the relative importance of specific family environmental variables and positive self-concept of psychological variables in explaining family life satisfaction. Data were collected from 423 housewives in Daegu City. Multivariate regression and factor analysis and path analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of this study partially supported the hypothesis that positive self-concept of psychological factors would be more closely associated with family life satisfaction than would family environmental factors. The findings were as follows: 1. Urban housewives' positive self-concept and family life satisfaction were relatively high. 2. Among family environment variables, health, wives' education level, husband's satisfaction with job significantly influence on positive self-concept. 3. The variables which significantly affect family life satisfaction are husband's satisfaction with job, monthly family income, health. 4. From the path analysis, it found that positive self-concept has the most great influence on family life satisfation.
The purpose of the present study was to understand the clothing behavior of high school girls, and to analyze the differences of the behavior in accordance with their family self-concept and residential area. The study was implemented through a normative-descriptive survey method using a questionnaire. The survey was conducted in April 2006, and the sample consisted of 462 girls from 5 high schools. The data were analyzed by t-test, factor analysis, and cluster analysis. The results are as follows: I. In general, the family self-concept of high school girls was considerably positive, and the group from the Gangbuk area showed a more positive family self-concept than the group from Gangnam. 2. The group from Gangnam displayed a higher score in conformity, fashionability, and economy than the group from Gangbuk did. In terms of personality, the group from Gangbuk showed a higher score than the group from Gangnam. 3. The group having a more positive family self-concept showed a higher score in aspects of personality and psychological dependency. In the areas of conformity and fashionability, the group having a more positive family self-concept manifested a lower score. 4. In the case of the group having a more positive family self-concept, the girls from Gangnam, more than the group from Gangbuk, evidenced a higher score in conformity and fashionability, but showed a lower score in personality. In the case of the group having a lower score regarding family self-concept, the girls from Gangnam, more than those from Gangbuk, showed a higher score in conformity, fashionability, and economy. On the other hand, the personality score of the girls from Gangnam was lower than that of the Gangbuk group. Considering the results of the study mentioned above, it could be said that the clothing behavior of high school girls is different according to their family self-concept and residential area, and such clothing behavior could be used as a cue to understanding their family self-concept.
Purpose: This study was to investigate family functioning, self-concept and health promotion behavior of elementary school students and to find out the correlation among these variables. Method: The subjects were 277 students who participated voluntarily in the questionnaire. The instrument used in this study was family APGAR, self-concept and health promotion behavior tool. The data were collected from May 18th to 21st, 2004 with a self-administered questionnaire, using frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS 10.0 win. Results: 1) The mean score of health promotion behavior by general characteristics was significant in educational status of mother (F=5.352, p=0.005), living standard (F=9.646, p=0.000) and perceived health status (F=8.349, p=0.000). 2) The mean score of family functioning was 3.57 (5 point scale), self-concept was 3.47 (5 point scale) and health promotion behavior was 3.67 (5 point scale). 3) In the relationship between family functioning and self-concept was correlated (r=.547), family functioning and health promotion behavior was correlated (r=.518) and self-concept and health promotion behavior was correlated (r=.670). 4) The most influencing variable was self-concept, accounting for 43% in stepwise multiple regression. A combination of self-concept, family functioning and perceived health status explained 47% of the variance for health promoting behavior. Conclusion: Considering the results above, we can recognize that there are close relations among the family functioning, self-concept and health promotion behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to elevate the level of self-concept and family functioning in order to get health promotion behavior of the elementary school students.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the influences of family resilience on the self-concept of adopted children in open adoptive families in Korea. The participants of this study consisted of 94 adoptive parents and 113 of their elementary-aged adopted children. The findings of this study were as follows. First, the family resilience level of open adoptive families was 2.91 out of 4 full points. Second, the self-concept of adopted children in elementary school showed significantly higher scores than a norm group. Finally, the socio-demographic characteristics and adoption related factors did not significantly influence the self-concept of adopted children. Only the organization patterns of family resilience positively affected the self-concept of adopted children.

The purpose of this study was to determine the factors affecting family strength and therewith, suggest some strategies to improve family strength and welfare. For this purpose, the researcher sampled 208 college students and surveyed them for their perceptions of the concept of family and family strengths. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, as a result of surveying the subjects on their perception of the concept of family, it was found that almost all of them (99%) perceived that 'a family consists of a couple and their children' (item 1). The other items regarding the concept of family chosen by the majority of subjects were 'a couple and adopted child' (item 3 & item 17), 'a remarried couple and their children' (item 9), 'a single parent and children' (item 2), 'a three-generation family; couple, widowed daughter and granddaughter' (item 4), 'three sisters' (item 7), 'an unmarried woman living with a son born from a sperm bank' (item 19), 'a separated couple with no child' (item 13), 'cousins living together' (item 11), 'a divorced man and his girlfriend with child' (item 15) and 'homosexual family' (item 8). Second, as a result of assessing subjects' needs for family functions and their efforts for family strengths, it was found that the family functions for family members scored higher than those for the society, and that subjects' efforts for the family functions conducive to both their family members and society scored lower than their needs for the family functions. Third, subjects' needs and efforts for family functions were positively correlated with family strengths. Namely, family functions were closely related with family strengths.

A product family design has received much attention over the last several decades, since a product family-based development shortens lead-times and reduces cost, as well as increases efficiency and effectiveness of the product realization process. It is challenging work, however, to define the product family design in the heterogeneous product development environments, due to myriads of products related information described in different ways across products in any companies. In this paper, we provided a way of defining product family design framework using formal concept analysis and ontology language. Based on this, the specific product family can be derived by ontological reasoning, and the new product concept can be also expanded in the framework. The proposed framework is formalized using OWL (Web Ontology Language) and implemented in $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$. Actual product family design algorithm is carried out using FaCT++ engine, a plug-in to $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$, and the benefits of the proposed method are also demonstrated through a case study.
This study investigated trends in university students' acceptance of family diversity, familism, family strengths. Participants in this study were 388 university students (193 male, 195 female). The major findings were as follows: Respondents' recognition of family concept is modified from traditional family notion to modern conception. The general trends regarding the level of familism showed that males' level was higher than females'. The respondents' family strength was influenced by a blood permanency of father, family priority, reverence for parent and the tie that bind child, functional perceptions of family. The most important variable in terms of influence on university students' family strength was that of familism. These results implied that the familism was partly influential to family strengths.
The purpose of this analysis is to investigate the effect of leading characters in picture books on self concept in children. For this study, we selected a total of 55 picture books, all of which were best sellers in four internet book stores. The method used for the study was based on content analysis. The results of this analysis were as follows: First, the gender of leading characters was male more often than female, and the majority of picture books were creative story books and translation books. Second, subordinate parts related to the self-concept were most frequently found in the social self-concept. Social self-concept was positively expressed through the relationship between friend and family characters in story books. Cognitive self-concept was the least. Third, when the frequency of positive and negative expressions in picture books was analyzed, the social self-concept was found to be positively expressed in the subordinate parts of relationships between friends and family. The social self-concept was negatively expressed, however, in the subordinate parts of relationship between non-significant others, and the emotional self-concept was also negatively expressed in the subordinate parts of the emotional recognition and expression. In summary. instances of cognitive self-concept and positive expression were found to be more significant than negative ones.
Purpose: This paper is a report on the concept analysis of family-centered care for hospitalized children. Methods: The concept analysis approach of Walker and Avant was used. A search of multidisciplinary literature published between 1960 and 2016 was undertaken using the keyword 'family centered care' or 'family centered nursing' combined with hospitalized children. Attributes, antecedents, and consequences were inductively derived from the citations analyzed (n=19). Results: The attributes of family-centered care included (1) family respect, (2) collaboration, (3) family support, and (4) information sharing. These attributes are influenced by the 'willingness of family to participate', 'competency and willingness of staff,' and 'institution policy and system.' Additionally, family-centered care does significantly impact 'the health of the children', 'family empowerment' and 'work satisfaction and self-confidence of staff'. Conclusion: Family-centered care of hospitalized children as defined by the result of this study will contribute to the theoretical foundation for application in pediatric nursing practice.
Objectives: The school adjustment problems of the adolescence groups become more aggravated and are on the increase. The objective of this study is to identify the causal relationship of intra-family conflicts, self-concept and school adjustment as health protection behavior. Methods: The study setting is the adolescence groups. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires from the middle and high school students in Seoul. The study sample consisted of 268 students. Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) analysis was conducted to find the causal relationship of intra-family conflicts, self-concept and school adjustment. Results: This study shows that firstly, the total effects of intra-family conflicts have a negative effect on self-concept(path coefficients=-0.080) and school adjustment(path coefficients=-0.107). And the self-concept factor as an intervening variable are affecting positively on school adjustment(path coefficients=0.411). Secondly, the economic conflicts, personaliy conflicts and social activity conflicts of father and mother among various family conflicts are more highly affecting on self-concept and school adjustment(p<0.01) Conclusions: These results imply that first, communication between parents and students is essential to solve the problems of school adjustment. Especially economic conflicts should be solved to improve the self-concept and school adjustment. second, a variety of programs are available for schools to employ in an effort to provide interventions for students who demonstrate school adjustment. Finally, it is necessary for family, school and all the society members to comprehensively cooperate to solve family conflicts and school adjustment.
