  • The COVID-19 crisis inevitably led to full-scale non-face-to-face education in 2020. The researchers selected five universities out of 48 universities in radiology and radiology departments nationwide (1.2 in 2019 and 1.2 in 2020) to examine the results of face-to-face training and non-face-to-face mock tests conducted by senior students in radiology departments and radiology departments of the national health department (12 in 2019 and 1.2 in 2020) in preparation for the license test. It turned out to be. Comparing the results of face-to-face and non-face-to-face training (two in 2019 and two in 2020), statistics were analyzed by nonparametric tests, and the results showed that there were differences in theory (Z=-2.023, p<0.05, application (Z=-2.023), p<0.05), practical skills (Z=-1.753, and p<0.05). As a result of the mock test, non-face-to-face education results in poor grades compared to face-to-face education, it is believed that lectures should be taught differently or various educational methods that can communicate with students should be combined.

  • In this paper, a face recognition algorithm system using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is proposed. The algorithm recognized a person by comparing characteristics (features) of the face to those of known individuals of Intelligent Control Laboratory (ICONL) face database. Simulations are carried out to investigate the algorithm recognition performance, which classified the face as a face or non-face and then classified it as known or unknown one. Particularly, a Principal Components of Linear Discriminant Analysis (PCA + LDA) face recognition algorithm is also proposed in order to confirm the recognition performances and the adaptability of a proposed PCA for a certain specific system.

  • Temperature distribution on the rake face and flank face in orthogonal turning with cutting tool of high speed steel is studied by using a finite element method and experiments. Experiments are carried out to verify the validity of the temperature measurement by using a thermoelectric couple junction imbedded in a cutting tool of high speed steel. Good agreement is obtained between the analytical results and the experimental ones for the temperature distributions on both the rake face and flank face of cutting tool with high speed steel. The analytical results show that the temperature on the top flank face of a tool is higher than it on the top rake face of the tool because of the difference of the friction velocity on each face of the tool.

  • Daily science classes, which have been continued as part of the spread of participatory science culture, has taken the lead in popularizing science as an effective out-of-school experiential and research activity. However, due to the recent COVID-19 situation, daily science classes have also become an environment in which there is no choice but to switch to non-face-to-face or to combine face-to-face and non-face-to-face education. Therefore, in this study, we examine how elementary school students participating in the non-face-to-face daily science class program change their usual fields of interest, perception of science and technology, interest about science, and scientific competency. In addition, the educational effectiveness of the non-face-to-face daily science class improved by comparing the differences in perceptions of students and parents, and future operation plans were sought. As a result of the study, after participating in the non-face-to-face daily science class program, students' interest in science and technology development, future technology, environmental pollution, and social media increased, and their interest in games decreased. Also, students' interest in science and technology activities, interest in science, and scientific competency also increased. This shows that non-face-to-face daily science class education is effective. Therefore, it was suggested that it is necessary to diversify the learning topics and content levels of the daily science class program, to expand the opportunities of non-face-to-face science education for underprivileged learners, and to develop and share science content using the latest media.

  • This paper presents a new approach of closing the tunnel face with sprayed concrete to reduce the stress at the tunnel face and displacement occurring at the ground surface during tunnel excavation. In order to carry out this research, the experimental and numerical studies are performed. In the experimental study, the model tests are carried out according to the closure ratio of tunnel face, tunnel depth and tunnel excavation length. The model test results are analyzed and interpreted by numerical calculation in order to verify both results obtained from experimental and numerical studies. It is clearly found that the tunnel face stability is decreased in decreasing the closure ratio of tunnel face. The results also show that the tunnel face is stable when the closure ratio of tunnel face is larger than 80%. This research will be very useful to develop the economical tunnel face closing system.

  • This paper proposes a face detection algorithm that uses geometrical information on face and hair region. This information that face adjoins hair regions can be the important one for face detection. It is also kept in images with frontal, rotated and lateral face. The face candidates are founded by the analysis of skin regions after detecting the skin and hair color regions in an image. Next, the intersected lesions between face candidates and hair's are created. Finally, the face candidates that include the subsets of these regions turn out to be face. Experimental results showed the high detection rates for frontal and lateral faces as well as faces geometrically distorted.

  • This paper presents the results of a parametric study on the behavior of tunnel face reinforced with horizontal pipes. A series of reduced-scale model tests was carried out to in an attempt to verify previously performed three-dimensional numerical modeling and to investigate effects of reinforcement layout on the tunnel face deformation behavior The results of model tests indicate that the tunnel face deformation can significantly reduced by pre-reinforcing the tunnel face with longitudinal members and thus enhancing the tunnel stability. In addition, the model tests results compare fairly well with those from the previously performed three-dimensional finite element analysis. Therefore, a properly calibrated three dimensional model may effectively be used in the study of tunnel face reinforcing technique.

  • The lip seals widely used nowadays in stern tube sealing system of ships have radial sealing contact with shafts or liners, on the other hand the face seals of stern tube sealing system have axial sealing contact with seat. Because of axial sealing contact, the face seals have a large number of merits such as durability of life, simplicity of structure, easy fitting and replacement, etc. In this paper, for the purpose of development of face seals, the fundamental properties of axial sealing contact were analyzed and a trial face seal was designed and manufactured using N.B.R. rubber and Thordon which is widely used for bearing materials. The seal proper of trial face seal was made from N.B.R. rubber and the face insert was made from Thordon, thermosetting resins which are three dimensional, cross linked condensation polylmers. The performance test of trial face seal was carried out on the test bench which was specially designed and manufactured. The results were satisfactory enough to be used in practical stern tube sealing system.

  • Unreinforced masonry is widely used as a structural material in residential constructions and known to have poor seismic performance in the out-of-plane rather than in-plane behavior. In countries of lower seismicity such as Korea, it is necessary to check the possibility of the mode of the out-of-plane failure. Though face loading is a major cause of the failure of masonary walls, Korean Seismic Code does not include provision for face-loaded unreinforced masonry walls. This paper briefly reviews the concept of analysis for unreinforced masonry walls subjected to face-load excitation proposed by Priestley, and its applicatility to Korean case.

  • Recently, technologies are being developed to recognize and authenticate users using bioinformatics to solve information security issues. Biometric information includes face, fingerprint, iris, voice, and vein. Among them, face recognition technology occupies a large part. Face recognition technology is applied in various fields. For example, it can be used for identity verification, such as a personal identification card, passport, credit card, security system, and personnel data. In addition, it can be used for security, including crime suspect search, unsafe zone monitoring, vehicle tracking crime. In this thesis, we conducted a study to recognize faces by detecting the areas of the face through a computer webcam. The purpose of this study was to contribute to the improvement in the accuracy of Recognition of Face Based on CNN Algorithms. For this purpose, We used data files provided by github to build a face recognition model. We also created data using CNN algorithms, which are widely used for image recognition. Various photos were learned by CNN algorithm. The study found that the accuracy of face recognition based on CNN algorithms was 77%. Based on the results of the study, We carried out recognition of the face according to the distance. Research findings may be useful if face recognition is required in a variety of situations. Research based on this study is also expected to improve the accuracy of face recognition.
