We simulate the light transmission through an extremely small nanoscale aperture having a 10 nm diameter punctured in a metal film positioned at the center of a plasmonic bull's eye grating. A considerable directive emission of transmitted light with a divergence angle of 5.7 degrees was observed at $10{\mu}m$ from the nanohole opening at the frequency of surface plasmon polariton excitation, an confirmed by measuring the distance dependent transmission amplitude. Observations of the electric field in cross-sectional, near-field, and far-field views near-field enhancement associated with the surface plasmon excitation, and the interference of the electric field light through the nanohole in the near-field region is responsible for such a considerable directive emission.
In order to simulate a depth-of-field effect in real world, there have been several researches in computer graphics field. It can represent an out-of-focused scene by calculating focal plane. When a point in a 3D coordinate lies on further or nearer than focal plane, the point is presented as a blurred circle on image plane according to the characteristic of the aperture and the lens. We can generate a realistic image by simulating the effect because it provides an out-of-focused scene like human eye dose. In this paper, we propose a method to calculate a disparity value of a viewer using a customized stereoscopic eye-tracking system and a GPU-based depth-of-field control method. They enable us to generate more realistic images reducing side effects such as dizziness. Since stereoscopic imaging system compels the users to fix their focal position, they usually feel discomfort during watching the stereoscopic images. The proposed method can reduce the side effect of stereoscopic display system and generate more immersive images.
To determine if Antarctic krill employ body shrinkage as one of its overwintering mechanisms in the field, Euphauia superba and Euphausia crystallorophias were collected during fall and winter in and around Marguerite Bay through US Southern Ocean GLOBEC field programs during fall and winter 2001 and 2002. The relationships between the body length and weight of both krill species were exponentially correlated with no significant differences between the two species (p>0.05). The ratio between eye diameter and body length of individual krill was examined in an expectation that it could be used as an indicator of the body shrinkage as previously suggested by Shin and Nicol (2002). These ratios were significantly different between the two krill species. Especially, E . crystallorophias had bigger eyes than E. superba. In both krill species, eye diameters were highly correlated with body lengths (regression coefficients ${\geq}0.70$). For E. crystallorophias, no significant differences of the ratio of eye diameter/body length were detected between fall and winter. Even though the ratios for E. superba were seasonally varied, it was not clear whether body shrinkage was an actual and critical overwintering mechanism for the krill population found in this study area. These results suggest that some individuals of E. superba might experience the body shrinkage during a part of their liff, but this morphological index alone (eye diameter/body length) may be insufficient to unambiguously separate the shrunk krill from the non-shrunk ones in the field-collected animals.

In this paper, a simple optical method that uses an infrared(IR) cut filter is proposed to minimize variation of eye image by external infrared(IR) sources in a video based head mounted eye tracking system that is used in the field of sports. For this, the IR cut filter is attached to a head mount of the eye tracking system, and the camera with an IR LED is located between the IR cut filter and eye. In this structure, external IR is blocked by the IR cut filter, and the IR intensity on the eye can be controlled by the IR LED. Therefore, the illumination condition of the camera to capture the eye can be stable without being affected by external IR illuminations. To verify the proposed idea, variation of the eye image and intensity of the IR with/without the IR cut filter is measured under various illumination conditions. The measured data show that the IR cut filter method can block external IR effectively, and complex pupil detection algorithms can be replaced by a simple binarized method.

Purpose : This study presents the usefulness assessment of secondary shield for the lens exposure dose reduction during radiation treatment of peripheral orbit. Materials and Methods : We accomplished IMRT treatment plan similar with a real one through the computed treatment planning system after CT simulation using human phantom. For the secondary shield, we used Pb plate (thickness 3mm, diameter 25mm) and 3 mm tungsten eye-shield block. And we compared lens dose using OSLD between on TPS and on simulation. Also, we irradiated 200 MU(6 MV, SPD(Source to Phantom Distance)=100 cm, $F{\cdot}S\;5{\times}5cm$) on a 5cm acrylic phantom using the secondary shielding material of same condition, 3mm Pb and tungsten eye-shield block. And we carried out the same experiment using 8cm Pb block to limit effect of leakage & transmitted radiation out of irradiation field. We attached OSLD with a 1cm away from the field at the side of phantom and applied a 3mm bolus equivalent to the thickness of eyelid. Results : Using human phantom, the Lens dose on IMRT treatment plan is 315.9cGy and the real measurement value is 216.7cGy. And after secondary shield using 3mm Pb plate and tungsten eye-shield block, each lens dose is 234.3, 224.1 cGy. The result of a experiment using acrylic phantom, each value is 5.24, 5.42 and 5.39 cGy in case of no block, 3mm Pb plate and tungsten eye-shield block. Applying O.S.B out of the field, each value is 1.79, 2.00 and 2.02 cGy in case of no block, 3mm Pb plate and tungsten eye-shield block. Conclusion : When secondary shielding material is used to protect critical organ while irradiating photon, high atomic number material (like metal) that is near by critical organ can be cause of dose increase according to treatment region and beam direction because head leakage and collimator & MLC transmitted radiation are exist even if it's out of the field. The attempt of secondary shield for the decrease of exposure dose was meaningful, but untested attempt can have a reverse effect. So, a preliminary inspection through Q.A must be necessary.

Objective : This study was performed to prove the effect of the oriental medical treatments like acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine on macular edema resulted from branch retinal vein occlusion which could lead to terrible result like permanent visual loss at worst. Methods : The patient was treated 62 times, from July 15th, 2009 through May 12th, 2010. We used fundus photography and Dr. Hann's standard test chart for 5m to examinate the patient's eyesight. We used acupuncture, electropuncture, moxibustion and herbal medicine to treat the patient. We considered visual field, scotoma, metamorphopsia and vitreous floater to measure the effect of treatment. Results : After about 10 months of treatment, the eyesight of Rt eye was improved from 0.8 to 0.9, Lt. eye from zero to 0.3. The visual field turbidity were absolutely cleared. The scotomas in Lt. eye were reduced from 5 to 2. The metamorphopsia were improved. The vitreous floaters in Rt. eye were decreased from 5~6 to 1~2. Conclusion : These results show that the oriental medical treatment can be conservative measure to the macular edema resulted from branch retinal vein occlusion.

A visual field tester using a fixation target with a lack of distinctiveness decreases accuracy and usability in visual field testing. The present study is intended to develop various induction methods of gaze fixation for effective visual field testing. Proposed were four new gaze fixation induction methods (color changing dot; alphanumeric characters; flashing black dot; and bulls eye and cross hair, BECH) by considering visual attention factors such as color, meaning, flashing, and shape and the proposed methods were compared with the existing black dot (BD) method in terms of gaze fixation performance and subjective satisfaction by 32 participants in their 20s to 30s. BECH was found most preferred by increasing gaze fixation performance by 4.8% and subjective satisfaction by 0.4 to 2.0 in a 7-point scale compared to BD. BECH can be applied to tests such as visual field testing and macular pigment optical density testing in which gaze fixation is crucial for accuracy and usability.
Space-borne remote sensing is an effective and inexpensive way to identify crop fields and detect the crop condition. We examined the multi-temporal spectral characteristics of rice fields in South Korea to detect their phenological development and condition. These rice fields are compact, small-scale parcels of land. For the analysis, moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) and RapidEye images acquired in 2011 were used. The annual spectral tendencies of different crop types could be detected using MODIS data because of its high temporal resolution, despite its relatively low spatial resolution. A comparison between MODIS and RapidEye showed that the spectral characteristics changed with the spatial resolution. The vegetation index (VI) derived from MODIS revealed more moderate values among different land-cover types than the index derived from RapidEye. Additionally, an analysis of various VIs using RapidEye satellite data showed that the VI adopting the red edge band reflected crop conditions better than the traditionally used normalized difference VI.
Epidemiological research has revealed that radiation exposure can cause cataracts. The Korean nuclear regulatory body has proposed the reduction of the occupational dose limit for the lens of the eye from 150 mSv/y to 100 mSv/5y, with an additional limitation of not exceeding 50 mSv/y for a specific year, taking into account the recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, and the International Atomic Energy Agency. This means that radiation workers should receive the same level of radiation safety for the lens of the eye as for whole-body protection. Korean nuclear power plants (NPPs) are conducting research to establish the radiation protection program for the lens of the eye. In terms of the preliminary results of the implementation of the radiation protection program for the lens of the eye dedicated to Korean NPPs, this review article summarizes the current state of understanding of the regulations, technical guidance, eye lens dosimeters, and radiation field conditions resulting in lens dose.

3D crosstalk is one of the disturbing things to recognize 3D images. This is caused by the phenomenon that input image for left eye is transferred at the right eye and right eye is transferred at the left eye because of the imperfect isolation by the device characteristics. In this paper, we review the 3D PDP (Plasma Display Panel) operation using active shutter glasses and crosstalk measurement method and investigate the major cause of 3D crosstalk and extend conventional 3D crosstalk using full white and full black image input to Gray-to-Gray (GtoG) 3D crosstalk. We suggest a specific method to reduce Gray-to-Gray 3D crosstalk by using Look up Table (LUT) and sub-field mapping in PDP. And then, we verify the method by measuring GtoG 3D crosstalk rate through specific test images and numerical results.
