The polymerization rate, chemical structure and optical properties of tetramethyldisiloxane(TMS) have been investigated. The rate of polymerization of TMS films increased nonlinearly with the discharge power. The refractive indices of thin films varied from 1.40 to 1.43 and they also increased with increasing discharge power. Also, the extinction coefficient was about 0.2 and is independent of photon energy.

This study presents a modeling of aerosol extinction vertical profiles in Korea by using the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer(MODIS) derived aerosol optical thickness(AOT) and ground based visibility observation data. The method uses a series of physical equations for the derivation of aerosol scale height and vertical profiles from MODIS AOT and surface visibility data. The modelled results under the standard atmospheric condition showed small differences with the standard aerosol vertical profile used in the radiative transfer model. Model derived aerosol scale heights for two cases of clean(${\tau}_{MODIS}=0.12{\pm}0.07$, visibility=$21.13{\pm}3.31km$) and hazy atmosphere(${\tau}_{MODIS}=1.71{\pm}0.85$, visibility=$13.33{\pm}5.66km$) are $0.63{\pm}0.33km$ and $1.71{\pm}0.84km$. Based on these results, aerosol extinction profiles can be estimated and the results are transformed into the KML code for visualization of dataset. This has implications for atmospheric environmental monitoring and environmental policies for the future.

Characteristics of visual air quality in Seoul have been investigated between June 13 and 21, 1994. Optical properties (extinction coefficient and particle scattering coefficient), meteorological parameters (relative humidity, temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and cloud cover), particle characteristics (mass size distribution, components) were measured and analyzed. During measurement periods, northwest wind with less than 2m/sec of wind speed deteriorates visibility. Effects of relative humidity are though to be not a direct factor which influence to visibility through the size change due to hygroscopic species in aerosol. During the smoggy period both the aerosol mass concentration and fine particle fraction of the size distribution are increased compared to the clear period. Sulfate, organic carbon, and elemental carbon in aerosol are the major species in determining the occurrence and severity of a smog in Seoul.
In order to develope bioactive substances, dried fmit body of Daedalea dickinsii collected from Taeback mountain was extracted with ethanol, The compounds 1 and 2 were purified by solvent extraction, silica gel column chromatography and recrystallization from the ethanol extracts. Melting point, molecular weight and molar extinction coefficient of the compound 1 were estimated to be $167{\sim}168^{\circ}C$, 572 and 5,040 at 208 nm. The structure of this compound 1 has been elucidated to be 24S, 25S, $3{\alpha}-carboxyacetylquercinic$ acid using spectroscopic properties. This compound showed antibiotic activities against fungi, yeasts and bacteria and it also showed anticancer activity $IC_{50}=64.5\;{\mu}M$) against Korean stomach cancer cell. Melting point, molecular weight and molar extinction coefficient of the compound 2 were estimated to be $233{\sim}235^<\circ}$, 572 and 5,080 at 208 nm. The structure of this compound was elucidated to be 24S, 25R, $3{\alpha}-carboxyacetylquercinic$ acid. The compound 2 showed different antibiotic activities with the compound 1.

In this study, the relations of flow rate, discharging distance and droplet size are measured in accordance with the nozzle shape. The dual type nozzles of LPN142 and LPN148, which have identical core diameter (6.0 mm) and the different radial injection angles (${\theta}_2=142^{\circ}$ and $148^{\circ}$), are manufactured. The distribution diameters with discharging distance are quantified by UL2167 test standard. The relations between discharging angle and droplet sizes, which are measured by the method of Helium-Neon laser equipment, are obtained by the empirical correlation as working pressure increase. Moreover, the extinction coefficient, which is major parameter of the radiative transport equation (RTE) is analyzed with variable droplet sizes. Thus, it is possible to opt the nozzle's shape by analyzing the relations of working pressure, spray distance, droplet size and fire characteristics at minimum allowable flow rate.
To measure atmospheric temperature, water vapor, and aerosol simultaneously, an efficient multi-function Raman lidar using an ultraviolet-wavelength laser has been developed. A high-performance spectroscopic box that utilizes multicavity interference filters, mounted sequentially at small angles of incidence, is used to separate the lidar return signals at different wavelengths, and to extract the signals with high efficiency. The external experiments are carried out for simultaneous detection of atmospheric temperature, water vapor, and aerosol extinction coefficient in Beijing, under clear and hazy weather conditions. The vertical profiles of temperature, water vapor, and aerosol extinction coefficient are analyzed. The results show that for an integration time of 5 min and laser energy of 200 mJ, the mean deviation between measurements obtained by lidar and radiosonde is small, and the overall trend is similar. The statistical temperature error for nighttime is below 1 K up to a height of 6.2 km under clear weather conditions, and up to a height of 2.5 km under slightly hazy weather conditions, with 5 min of observation time. An effective range for simultaneous detection of temperature and water vapor of up to 10 km is achieved. The temperature-inversion layer is found in the low troposphere. Continuous observations verify the reliability of Raman lidar to achieve real-time measurement of atmospheric parameters in the troposphere.
This study was carried out to evaluate the WASP5 model parameters and to analyze the sensitivity of parameters in Daechung Reservoir. The values predicted by the model and tendency were very similar to the observed data at Daejeon intake, so it is possible to predict water quality of the Daejeon intake region in the future. Results from the sensitivity analysis showed that Chlorophyll-a was sensitive to variations in saturated growth rate of phytoplankton, endogenous respiration rate of phytoplankton, extinction coefficient and temperature. T-N was sensitive to mineralization rate of dissolved organic nitrogen and temperature. T-P was affected by T-P load, temperature, extinction coefficient, mineralization rate of dissolved organic phosphorus and saturated growth rate of phytoplankton. BOD was influenced by deoxygenation rate and temperature, and DO was influenced by temperature. Adequate input data was applied and assessed through the model sensitivity analysis. So it is possible to distinguish the input data which need careful attention when it has application to model.

Infrared heating has been traditionally used in industrial applications for processes such as dehydration of food industrial. This heating method involves the application of radiation in the wavelength range of 2 to 50 micrometers. In this work, simultaneous heat balance equations were developed to simulate the infrared radiation heating of agricultural products. The equations assume that moisture diffuses to the outer boundaries of the material in liquid form and evaporation occurs at the surface of the agricultural products. Energy for moisture evaporation is supplied by the infrared radiant energy. The optimum temperature and drying time for the best drying conditions of changing the red peppers with the moisture content of 18% and the restore rate of 80~85% are $80^{\circ}C$ and 44 hours. The performance of radiation tubes coating with the radiation paint developed in this research has the energy of $2.27{\times}103W/m^2{\mu}m$, $150^{\circ}C$ within the scope of radiation wave length of $2{\sim}30{\mu}m$ and has the radiation 0.92~0.93, which is superior to the general radiation tubes. The extinction coefficient according to the band pass filter using the 4 flux theory ha higher dependability on wave length, accounting for $2{\sim}17{\mu}m$ and $5{\times}105{\sim}106m-1$. A comparison between the theoretical energy transfer whose figures are interpreted according to 4 flux theory and the experimental energy transfer of far infrared dryer leads to the findings of the agreement less than 5%.
Aerosol size distribution provides good information for predicting weather changes and understanding cloud formation. Aerosol extinction coefficient and backscattering coefficient are measured by many scientists, but these parameters depend not only on aerosol size but on aerosol concentrations. An algorithm has been developed to measure aerosol parameters such as ${\AA}$ngstr$\ddot{o}$m exponent, color ratio, and LIDAR ratio without any assumptions by using two wavelength rotational Raman LIDAR signals. These parameters are good indicators for the aerosol size. And we can find ${\AA}$ngstr$\ddot{o}$m exponent, color ratio, and LIDAR ratio under various weather conditions. Finally, it can be seen that the ${\AA}$ngstr$\ddot{o}$m exponent has an inverse relationship to the particle size of the aerosol and the color ratio is linearly dependent on the aerosol size. An ${\AA}$ngstr$\ddot{o}$m exponent from 1.2 to 3.1, a color ratio from 0.28 to 1.04, and a LIDAR ratio 66.9 sr at 355 nm and 32.6 sr at 532 nm near the cloud were obtained.
By measuring the brightness of night sky, we have investigated light pollution around the observatory in the College of Education, Seoul National University. As a result of measuring the extinction coefficient and photometric constants by standardization, in January 28, 2009, the extinction coefficient found to be $k_B$=0.359 and photometric constant was $C_B$=4.397. In March 27, 2009, extinction coefficients were $k_B$=0.896 and $k_V$=0.725, and photometric constants were $C_B$=6.235 and $C_V$=6.027. Brightness of the night sky was measured from east, west, south, and north each by altitude of $20^{\circ}$, $40^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$. Data reduction and analysis was based on IRAF. Seeings for the each day of observation were 5.1 and 5.7 arcseconds in January 28 and March 27, respectively. Night sky spanned the magnitude range of $16{\leq}m_V$, $m_B{\leq}18$ We found that the brightness of night sky located at downtown was twice to four times brighter. On these observational conditions, limiting magnitude within 40cm-telescope becomes 11-13 magnitudes. Compared with Jan 28 and Mar 27, night sky brightness of January is 1 magnitude fainter than that of March in B filter.
