  • We investigated the effect of light intensity and wavelength of a solar cell device by using photoconductive atomic force microscopy (PC-AFM). The $POCl_3$ diffusion doping process was used to produce a p-n junction solar cell device based on a Poly-Si wafer and the electrical properties of prepared solar cells were measured using a solar cell simulator system. The measured open circuit voltage ($V_{oc}$) is 0.59 V and the short circuit current ($I_{sc}$) is 48.5 mA. Also, the values of the fill factors and efficiencies of the devices are 0.7% and approximately 13.6%, respectively. In addition, PC-AFM, a recent notable method for nano-scale characterization of photovoltaic elements, was used for direct measurements of photoelectric characteristics in local instead of large areas. The effects of changes in the intensity and wavelength of light shining on the element on the photoelectric characteristics were observed. Results obtained through PC-AFM were compared with the electric/optical characteristics data obtained through a solar simulator. The voltage ($V_{PC-AFM}$) at which the current was 0 A in the I-V characteristic curves increased sharply up to 1.8 $mW/cm^2$, peaking and slowly falling as light intensity increased. Here, $V_{PC-AFM}$ at 1.8 $mW/cm^2$ was 0.29 V, which corresponds to 59% of the average $V_{oc}$ value, as measured with the solar simulator. Also, while light wavelength was increased from 300 nm to 1,100 nm, the external quantum efficiency (EQE) and results from PC-AFM showed similar trends at the macro scale, but returned different results in several sections, indicating the need for detailed analysis and improvement in the future.

  • The electrical fire frequently happens through careless use such as poor contact, mechanical stress on power cord sets. In this paper, we simulated a wall-model in order to investigate the patterns of fire dispersion on power cord sets which consists of vinyl cord and rubber cord, etc. The fire progress and dispersive patterns were measured by a high speed imaging system(HG-100K, REDLAKE, USA). From the results, the fire pattern of power cord sets was progressed in order of flashover, scattering and disconnection. The short-circuit of the vinyl cords happened easier than the rubber cords by the external flame. In case vinyl cord is disconnected. the fire progress is not observed because the ignition energy decreases. Whereas, the fire progressed continuously in case of the rubber cord.

  • New classes of LC resonators for micro magnetic sensor device were proposed and fabricated. The first type LC resonator (Type I) consists of a small piece of microwire and two cylindrical electrodes at the end of the microwire without direct contact to its ferromagnetic core. In type I resonator the ferromagnetic core of the microwire and cylindrical electrodes act as an inductor and two capacitors respectively to form a LC circuit. The second type LC resonator (Type II) consists of a solenoidal micro-inductor with a bundle of soft magnetic microwires as a core. The solenoidal micro-inductors fabricated by MEMS technique were $500\sim1,000\;\mu{m}$ in length with $10\sim20$ turns. A capacitor is connected in parallel to the micro-inductor to form a LC circuit. A tiny glass coated $CO_{83.2}B_{3.3}Si_{5.9}Mn_{7.6}$ microwire was fabricated by a glass-coated melt spinning technique. A supergiant magneto-impedance effect was found in a type I resonator as much as 400,000% by precise tuning frequency at around 518.51 MHz. In type II resonator the changes of inductance as a function of external magnetic field in micro-inductors with properly annealed microwire cores were varied as much as 370%. The phase angle between current and voltage was also strongly dependent on the magnetic field. The drastic increments of magnetoimpedance at near the resonance frequency were observed in both types of LC resonators. Accordingly, the sudden change of the phase angle, as large as $180^{\circ}C$, evidenced the occurrence of the resonance at a given external magnetic field.

  • Recently, the development of smartphone camera technology enables to shoot high quality video. In order to utilize these techniques in various ways, it is necessary to be able to transmit signals to an external device such as a external display. The transmission performance of the video signal is determined by the loss of the transmission line and the length of the wiring. In this paper, we propose the HDMI transmission line design criterion according to the wiring length changed according to the smartphone design and the surface roughness amplitude of the printed circuit board conductor wiring material. Also, we verified the proposed design criteria for the actual smartphone design. The proposed design criterion can be applied to various application fields including high-speed signal transmission line besides mobile application.

  • With the increasing demand for mobile devices featuring multi-touch operation, extensive research is being conducted on touch screen panel (TSP) Readout ICs (ROICs) that should possess low power consumption, compact chip size, and immunity to external noise. Therefore, this paper discusses capacitive touch sensors and their readout circuits, and it introduces research trends in various circuit designs that are robust against external noise sources. The recent state-of-the-art TSP ROICs have primarily focused on minimizing the impact of parasitic capacitance (Cp) caused by thin panel thickness. The large Cp can be effectively compensated using an area-efficient current compensator and Current Conveyor (CC), while a display noise reduction scheme utilizing a noise-antenna (NA) electrode significantly improves the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Based on these achievements, it is expected that future TSP ROICs will be capable of stable operation with thinner and flexible Touch Screen Panels (TSPs).

  • In this work, small-size, high-performance simple solenoid-type RF chip inductors utilizing an Al2O3 core material were investigated. Copper (Cu) wire with $40\mum$ diameter was used as the coils and the size of the chip inductor fabricated in this work was $2.1mm\times1.5mm\times1.0mm$. The external current source was applied after bonding Cu coil leads to gold pads electro-plated on each end of backsides of a core material. High frequency characteristics of the inductance (L), quality factor (Q), and impedance (Z) of developed inductors were measured using an RF Impedance/Material Analyzer (HP4291B with HP16193A test fixture). This HP4291B was also used to obtain the equivalent circuit and its circuit parameters of the chip inductors. This HP4291B was also used to obtain the equivalent circuit and its circuit parameters of the chip inductors. The developed inductors have the self-resonant frequency (SRF) of 1.1 to 3.1 GHz and exhibit L of 22 to 150 nH. The L of the inductors decreases with increasing the SRF. The Z of the inductors has the maximum value at the SRF and the inductors have the quality factor of 70 to 97 in the frequency range of 500 MHz to 1.5 GHz.

  • Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are widely used for verification in chip development. In order to verify the circuit programmed to the FPGA, data must be input to the FPGA. There are many ways to communicate with a chip through a PC and an external board, but the simplest and easiest way is to use a universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART). Most recently, most circuits are designed to be internally connected to the advanced microcontroller bus architecture (AMBA) bus. In other words, to verify the designed circuit easily and simply, data must be transmitted through the AMBA bus through the UART. Also the AMBA bus has been available in various versions since version 4.0 recently. Advanced peripheral bus (APB) is suitable for simple testing. In this paper, we design a circuit for UART-to-APB interface. Circuits designed using Verilog-HDL were implemented in Altera Cyclone FPGAs and were capable of operating at speeds up to 380 MHz.

  • In this paper, a signal processing circuit for semi-implantable middle ear hearing device is designed using the TCBT which is recently proposed for a new middle ear transducer that can be implanted at round window of cochlea. The designed semi-implantable hearing device transmits digital sound signal from external device located at behind the ear to the internal device implanted under the skin using inductive coupling link methods with high efficiency. The coils and signal processing circuits are designed and implemented considering the total transmission and reception distance including skin thickness of temporal bone for the semi-implantable hearing device. And also, to improve the data transmission efficiency, the output circuits which can supply sufficient signal power is designed. In order to confirm operation of semi-implantable hearing device using inductive coupling link, the circuit analysis was performed using PSpice, and the performance was verified by implementing a signal processing board of an available size.

  • By way of driving a 2-way on/off solenoid hydraulic valve with a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal, control of the pressure in a certain volume is frequently used in various applications. However, the pressure built-up according to the duty ratio and carrier frequency of the PWM signal is not so well understood. In order to clarify the characteristics of 2-way valve hydraulic pressure control systems, in this paper two formula fur the mean and ripple of the load pressure were derived through theoretical analysis. And the accuracy of the derived formula were verified by comparison with the experimental test result. Generally 2-way valve systems are constructed as a bleed-off circuit, while 3-way valves are used as a control element in a meter-in circuit pressure control system. In a bleed-off circuit, the system supply pressure from a hydraulic power pack does not remain constant, but changes according to their external load. In turn, the relief valve in the hydraulic power pack reacts accordingly showing complicated dynamic behavior, which makes an analytical study difficult. In order to resolve the problem, simple but accurate empirical dynamic models fer a bleed-off system were used in the course of formula derivation. As the result, selection criteria for two major control parameters of the driving signal is established and the basic strategy to suppress the unnecessary pressure fluctuation can be provided for a hydraulic pressure control system using a 2-way on/off solenoid valve.
