  • Objectives : In order to study the effect of oriental medical therapy on chronic prostatitis patient, the change of WBC counts on expressed prostatic secretion(EPS) was investigated. Methods : Chronic prostatitis patient who had been diagnosed by EPS test was re-tested as same way after improvement of symptom And then we investigated the change of WBC counts on EPS according to therapeutic period, age, usual habit, herb medicine and symptom of each patient, and his and his sexual partner's past history of STD or UTI. Results : According to the change of WBC counts on EPS, improvement rate was 83.3%, cure rate was 46.7%. The youth who didn't have the usual habit of enduring ejaculation during sexual intercourse, enduring urination and sitting long time a day was improved well. Conclusions : According to the above results, it is suggested that oriental medical therapy is effective to the change of WBC counts on EPS.

  • Objective : The prostatic disease is characterized as relatively incurable, chronic and recurrent illness. Because of this property, we have the difficulty in treating this illness. Besides, the drug selectivity is restricted to the specific prostatic membrane, the barrier of prostate. This study was to evaluate the efficency of the activating blood flow and removing blood stasis Method to Prostatic disease. Methods : We investigated 51 prostatic patiens with NIH chronic prostatitis symptom index, digital rectal examination(DRE), expressed prostatic secretion(EPS). After investigation we treated the patients with herb which was aimed to activate the blood flow and remove the blood stasis method to prostatic disease. Results : After the treatment, symptom index score of the prostatic patients was reduced from 11.7 to 7.4. The cure rate of 51 prostatic patients was 76.5%. Also the cure rate of the patients who was treated over 4 weeks was higher than the patients treated below 4 weeks, 87.5% to 66.7% respectively. conclusions : These results indicate that oriental medical theraphy is useful enough to treat the prostatic patients. Therefore, the more research about the herb which has activating blood flow and removing blood stasis effect is necessary.

Method : A clinical observation was made on two patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis diagnosed with DNA analysis. They were treated with herb medicine and acupuncture therapy. Before and after treatment we measured National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index(NIH-CPSI) and WBC counts on expressed prostatic secretion(EPS). Results : According to DNA analysis, Streptococcus mitis and Veillonella was proved to be the cause for chronic bacterial prostatitis for each patients. After treatment, NIH-CPSI score improved from severe to mild, and WBC counts on EPS decreased considerably from many to under 10. Conclusion : The present result suggest that oriental medical therapy has effect on chronic bacterial prostatitis. Further clinical study about chronic bacterial prostatitis, and research on herbal medicine sensitive to each bacterium causing chronic bacterial prostatitis is needed.

  • The chronic non-bacterial prostatis disease is relatively incurable, chronic and recurrent. Due to its prostatis barrier, chronic non-bacterial prostatis disease is difficult to be penetrated with Medicine. Nevertheless, we obtained the desired results using the method of iki action by Bojungiki-tang. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of treatment and change of WBC numerical index using Bojungiki-tang. We investigated one chronic non-bacterial prostatis disease for about one year with NIH chronic prostatis symptom index, expressed prostatic secretion(EPS). After the treatment, symptom index score was decreased from 27 to 1. Also WBC numerical index by EPS test was decreased to zero. These results indicate that oriental medical therapy is effective in treating chronic non-bacterial prostatis disease. Therefore further study of the effect of herb-medicine is necessary.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation of chronic prostatitis with sexual dysfunction and WBC counts on expressed prostatic secretion(EPS) with symptoms of sexual dysfunction. From 2001. 9. 1 to 2002. 3. 31, chronic prostatitis patients(30 examples) treated for more than 4 weeks were compared with normal group(30 examples) about hypoactive sexual desire disorder, erectile dysfunction, orgasmic disorder and hematospermia. We investigated sexual dysfunction according to the degree of prostatitis, improvement rate of prostatitis and sexual dysfunction. Chronic prostatitis patients compared with normal group were increased significantly in decreased libido(73.3%), erectile dysfunction(51.1%), orgasmic disorder(48.7%) and hematospermia(16.7%). In WBC very many/HPF group compared with others. though sexual dysfunction was highly revealed, but there was no statistic significance. In improvement rate of prostatitis, total improvement rate was 76.7%, WBC 10-30/HPF group 77.8%, WBC many/HPF group 72.8% and WBC very many/HPF group 80%. But the medical cure effect was the highest in WBC 10-30/HPF group. In the improvement rate of sexual dysfunction, total improvement rate was 68.5%, hematospermia 100%, decreased libido 90.9%, erectile dysfunction 67.4% and orgasmic disorder 60.3%. As a result of considering the relation with improvement rate of prostatitis and sexual dysfunction, there was a statistical significance at the erectile dysfunction. orgasmic disorder. The results showed the chronic prostatitis had effects on sexual dysfunction but there was no correlation between the degree of chronic prostatitis with sexual dysfunction. It also showed that the treatment of prostatitis had effects on improvements of erectile dysfunction and orgasmic disorder.
