Data were collected and analyzed using a chi-square test, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. Results: There were significant differences between the bladder discomfort experienced by patients in experimental group 1 and the control group, and experimental group 2 and the control group. Then nursing needs of the control group were higher than those of the experimental groups 1 and 2. Conclusion: The decrease in indwelling catheter size and preoperative nursing education is an effective nursing intervention in perioperative care.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS) in the patients of dysmenorrhea. A total of thirty subjects were assigned randomly to one of the two experimental groups or to a control group : 1) an Experimental group I received high-frequency TENS(100pps with a 100-microsecond pluse width), 2) an Experimental group II received low-frequency TENS(2pps with a 100-microsecond pulse width), 3) a Control group received medication(Acetaminophen 600mg). All subjects completed visual analogue scale(VAS) pre-treatment; after post-treatment; 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 hours post-treatment; and the next morning. The results of study were as follows; 1. The mean pain scores decreased in thru groups. 2. The experimental group II and the control group exhibited a significant decrease in pain post - treatment. 3. The experimental group I had the pain relief obtained after three hours post - treatment. The experimental group II had the pain relief obtained immediately after the post - treatment Control group had the pain relief obtained immediately after the post - treatment, but increased pain after four hours of post-treatment. Finally. this result suggests that TENS can reduce significantly the pain of dysmenorrhea. Besides. low-frequency TENS provided a good result to the excellent subjective pain relief in the subject, compared with high-frequency TENS and medication.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the adaptation of self-cured glass ionomer cement and resin-modified glass ionomer cement and polyacid-modified resin composite, which are light-cured giass ionomer cements, to dentin surface. Twelve extracted human maxillary and mandibular molar teeth were used in this study. The entire occlusal dentin surfaces of teeth were exposed with Diamond Wheel Saw and smoothed with sand papers (300, 600, 1200grits). They were randomly assigned into 3 groups according to glass ionomer cements used; Control group- Fuji II, Expeimental group 1 - Fuji II LC, Expeimental group 2 - Dyract. According to the manufacturer's directions, three glass ionomer cements were bonded to exposed dentin surfaces of the tooth crown and cured. Crowns and glass ionomers were trimmed after 24hrs and sectioned horizontally and vertically with diamond saw. The interface of glass ionomer cements and dentin was examined under SEM. The results were as follows : 1. Good adatation between glass ionomer cement and dentin on the horizontal section was showed in control and experimental group 1, but the gap of $20{\mu}m$, which was observed distinct separation between glass ionomer cement and dentin, was showed in experimental group 2. 2. Good adatation between glass ionomer cements and dentin on the vertical section was showed in control and experimental group 1, but the gap of 80-$100{\mu}m$ was showed in experimental group 2. 3. Cohesive fracture within glass ionomer cements in control and experimental group 1 was showed, but no cohesive fracture was showed in experimental group 2.
Purpose: This study was to identify the effects of self-foot reflexology on the situation score of Urinary incontinence, Self esteem and Depression of the middle-aged women. Method: A quasi-experimental design was used. The subject were 39 middle-aged women with urinary incontinence(18 experimental group, 21 control group). In the experimental group, self-foot reflexology was applied for 30 minutes, three times a week for 4 weeks. The obtained data were analyzed by using the Mann-Whitney U test of SPSS. Result: 1. The situation score of urinary incontinence were reduced significantly in the experimental group as compared to the control group(U=81.00, P=.002). 2. Self esteem were improved significantly in the experimental group as compared to the control group(U=59.00, p=.000). 3. Depression in the experimental group was reduced whereas that of the control group was increased significantly(U=45.00, p=.000). Conclusion: These findings indicate that self-foot reflexology is an effective method for reducing urinary incontinence and depression, and improving self esteem of middle-aged women. Therefore self-foot reflexology can be considered as a independent nursing intervention for urinary incontinence.
Purpose: This study examined whether mirror therapy could improve the balance, gait, and motor function of patients with subacute stroke. Methods: Thirty-three patients with subacute stroke were divided randomly into three groups: experimental group1, experimental group2, and the control group. The patients in experimental group1 performed a mirror therapy program on the unaffected side of the lower extremities, and the patients in experimental group2 performed mirror therapy on the affected side of the lower extremities. Both groups performed the exercise for 30 minutes per session, five times a week for four weeks. The control group did not receive mirror therapy. BBS, POMA, 10MWT, and the BRS were used to evaluate the balance, the quality of gait, gait speed, and the motor function before and after the intervention. Results: The gait speed increased significantly in the experimental groups1 and 2 after the intervention. The control group showed no significant difference in the gait speed after the intervention. The change in gait speed before and after the intervention showed a significant difference among the groups. Experimental group1 showed a significant increase in the gait speed compared to that of the control group. Conclusion: This study suggests that mirror therapy could be an effective intervention to improve the gait speed of patients with subacute stroke. On the other hand, there was no difference in the effectiveness of mirror therapy and therapeutic exercise on the balance, gait, and motor function.
Many studies has been conducted concerning prevention of unnecessary complications such as root resorption during orthodontic too th movement under various mechanical forces. Nowadays, the cause of the root resorption is not thought to be confined only to mechanical forces. But the factor that affects bone metabolism are thought to be major one of the predisposing factors. The light microscope and scanning electron microscope were used to the effects of 60 gm, and 100 gm of tipping force on root resorption of cats, which were treated with Etidronate disodium. The results were as follows: 1. In the 60gm control group, hyalinization on the compression site of periodontal ligament appeared after first week and second week. In the 60gm experimental group, it appeared after first week with low frequency. In the 100gm control group it appeared with high frequency by first and second week while in 100gm experimental group, it appeared with low frequency. 2 In the 100gm control group, resorption of the cementum and the alveolar bone rapidly increased after second week. In the 60gm experimental group, resorption or formation of alveolar bone and cementum didn't appear all through the experimental period. 3. In the 100gm control group, formation of cementum and alveolar bone appeared after first week while in the 100gm experimental group, formation of cementum and alveolar bone appeared after second week and fourth week respectively. In the 60gm control group, formation of the cementum didn't appear all through the experimental period. 4. In the control group, the root resolution of 100gm group was higher than that of 60gm group after second week, while in experimental group, root resorption didn't appear regardless of the forces.
It was reported that Dipsaci Radix has decrease pain effect on the Complex Region Pain Syndrome(CRPS). the CRPS was induced by unilateral loose occlusion in 4 part of the sciatic nerve of the rats. For the fingding significantly change on CRPS rats were divided into 4 different experimental groups. and each groups were induced CRPS. Experimental group I (control group; n=15), experimental group II (100 mg/kg Dipsaci Radix dieted rats; n=15), experimental group III (300 mg/kg Dipsaci Radix dieted rats; n=15), and experimental group IV(500 mg/kg Dipsaci Radix dieted rats; n=15). The study of Dipsaci Radix concentration was that foot withdrawal threshold to the thermal stimuli(Hot plate test), foot withdrawal threshold to the mechanical stimuli(von Frey's filament) and immunohistochemistry staining that were substance P. Hot plate test and von Frey Filament were increase in experimental group II, III, IV than group I, especially group III was most significantly change than group II and IV in post-hoc(Duncan's multiple range). and In immunohistochemistry observation; group I showed increase in the group II, III, IV. especially group III had the minimal level of the substance P expression while the experimental group II, III. These results suggested that the Dipsaci Radix dieted made the decrease of pain in CRPS.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify whether task-related circuit exercise program combined with sensorimotor training for 4 weeks could improve the balance and gait in stroke patients. Method: Fifteen stroke patients who had agreed with the study were randomly divided into 3 groups categorized as task-related circuit exercise program combined with sensorimotor training group (experimental group 1, n=5), task-related circuit exercise program group (experimental group 2, n=5), and control subjects performed conventional physical therapy (control group, n=5). The balance and gait were assessed by BT-4 force platform system, Berg Balance Scale, 10meter Walk Test and Smart Step at before training and after training.
