In this paper, we developed a shoulder rehabilitation exercise device and monitoring system to remotely provide rehabilitation system for the ones who need shoulder exercises including the patients with rotator cuff rupture. In order to evaluate the severity of shoulder muscle injury, a total of 4 shoulder rehabilitation exercises ((3) shoulder abduction, (2) shoulder flexion, (3) shoulder abduction with elbow flexion, (4) shoulder extension with elbow flexion) were selected and instructed to be performed with a 3 kg dumbbell for 5 times. For EMG (electromyogram) signal analysis, each subject's maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) was measured. EMG signals reflect the activation level of contracting muscles during dynamic exercises. Six participants' muscle activation levels in posterior deltoid, middle deltoid, upper trapezius, and infraspinatus were measured and compared. The mean power spectrum values in the time and frequency domains were compared between two age-matched groups (20s and 50s). The results showed lower muscle activation in the elderly subjects (n=3) compared to that of the ones in their twenties (n=3).
Purpose: This study was performed to verify the effect of Tai Chi exercise on patients with rheumatoid arthritis particularly their level of pain, fatigue, sense of balance and daily lift performance(ADL). Method: It employed a non-equivalent control group pre- and post-test design. The research instruments used in this study were pain, fatigue, sense of balance and ADL. Thirty-two patients in the experimental group carried out 50 minutes of Tai Chi exercise for 12 weeks, and 29 patients in the control group did not. Before and after the experiment, both groups were tested for pain, fatigue, sense of balance and ADL. Collected data were processed using the SPSS/WIN 10.0 program analyzed by the frequency, percentage, $x^2-test$, and t-test. Results: Pain and fatigue significantly decreased in the experimental group. However the improvement in ADL of the rheumatoid arthritis patients was not statistically significant but their sense of balance was enhanced significantly. Conclusion: Tai Chi exercise is an effective nursing intervention that can be used for rheumatoid arthritis patients.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to develop a predictive model of Health-related Quality of Life (HRQoL) for Korean Goose daddies - they live alone in Korea to support their families who moved overseas for children's education. Methods: Data were collected from 151 goose daddies from May to June of 2011 by using the structured self-reported questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using SAS program (version 9.2) and SAS CALIS procedure. Results: Frequency of exercise, monthly income, depression, perceived physical health, and perceived mental health had direct effects on HRQoL and Depression was the variable accounting for major total effect on HRQoL. It could be explained that predictor variables accounted for 76% of the health-related quality of life. Conclusion: In order to improve Goose daddies' HRQoL, predictive factors, such as age, exercise, nutritional status, monthly income, depression, perceived physical health, and perceived mental health, should be considered. Furthermore, should the need of the exercise and diet program, early detection of depression and the treatment for it be emphasized. Also, there is a need to establish institutional structures to support goose daddies in adversity.
Purpose: To Perform a randomized comparative study investigating the effects of Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise(PME) and Magnetic Stimulation Therapy(MST) and to identified the problems in each of PME & MST Method: Forty-nine patients with mild stress incontinence were randomly assigned to either of two treatment groups (24 patients in the PME group and 25 in the MST group). The PME group had a video exercising program for 40 times every day during 6 weeks. The MST group was treated with BioCon-2000TM, 2times/ week for six weeks. Pre-test and post-test were performed by Prineometer, 1-hour pad test. and Jackson's BFLUTS questionnaire of Jackson. Collected data were analysed using SAS 9.1 by frequency, Kolmogorov-Smirnov Z. Chi Square-test, t-test, Fisher Exact probability test, Paired t-test, and Wilcoxon's rank sum test. Results: In comparison between before and after PME and MST, statistically significant difference was observed in maximal vaginal pressure, duration of vaginal contraction, amount of urine, and symptom of urination. In the comparison of the effectiveness between PME & MST, only the maximal of vaginal pressure (Z=2.58, p= .010) was significantly different. Conclusion: The factor more effective in the MST group than in the PME group was high compliance.
1. In general, male-to-female rate of those investigated was 1.83:1(M:F) and in term of economic status, most were middle class. The investigation shows that reserved, sharp and nervous persons were inclined to easily fall ill. 2. The probability of their falling ill was high in the fall and during sleep because probability of cerebral infarction was high. 3. It was found that they more refained from overeating and from eating pungent food and had less meat than before illness, in addition that refaining from drinking and smoking further improves their daily lives. 4. The especially acknowledged the necessity of physical exercise, they exercised, more frequency, but less strenuously. This was due to the decline in their physical strength or the unsystematic nature of the exercise. 5. In terms of weight loss, the test subjects lost 5kg on average while two of them lost 10kg. The investigation revealed that such stroke patients could overcome a range of problems, and they could improve and maintain their daily condition through guidance and education about their illness. Furthermore, it was revealed that patients needed be shown love and concern, to lead a normal satisfying social life.
Purpose The study focuses on the physical activity behavior change effect of smart wristband, which is the most popular type of fitness tracker nowadays. The purpose of the research is to investigate how people's workout behavior may change after wearing a smart band and examine what kind of role persuasive design plays in behavior change. Design/Methodology/Approach This research employed an experimental study to examine whether the user's workout behaviors changed after using wristband from the "Behavior Wizard" perspective. A representative smart wristband from a major vendor was selected as the objects of experimental study. In the experiment, by comparing users' workout behavior before and after using the wristband, behavior changes of all the experiment participants were classified into one of the 15 behavior change types. Users perceived persuasive design characteristics were measured and group differences were tested among different behavior change groups. Findings This research found that nearly half of the participants changed their workout behavior while half retained their workout status or no exercise status. Half of the participants who did not do exercise in their spare time started walking in the experiment. Results also showed that participants who started working out perceived higher levels of persuasive design devised into the smart band than participants who preserved no exercise status, except for facilitation and reward strategies. Participants who retained workout and those who increased workout frequency perceived no difference in smart band persuasive design.
Purpose: This study was done to investigate differences in health behaviors by job stress level in male and female workers in a large-sized company. Methods: Participants were 576 male and 228 female workers who completed questionnaires. Job stress was measured using the 'Short Form Korean Occupational Stress Scale (SF-KOSS)'. Health behaviors included smoking, alcohol consumption, regular exercise, and diet. Frequency, mean, SD, chi-square test, and multivariate logistic regression using SAS version 9.1 were used to analyze data. Results: Smoking, drinking and regular exercise rates were not different by job stress level in male or female workers. Only regular diet was significantly different by job stress level in male and female workers. From multivariate analysis, the alcohol consumption rates for female workers differed by marital status. Regular exercise rate was significantly related to age for male workers and type of employment for female workers. After adjusting for demographic and work-related characteristics, regular diet significantly differed by shift work for male workers and marital status and shift work for female workers. Conclusion: The findings of the study indicate that nursing interventions should be developed to manage job stress to improve diet habits for male and female workers in large-sized companies.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to elucidate the relationship between pulse types measured by pulse analyzer and several factors including smoking, drinking alcohol, exercises etc. Methods: The subjects were 71 persons who were tested by oriental health examination. A self-reported questionnaire was used to gather age, smoking, drinking alcohol, exercise state and gender. The pulse types were measured by DMP 1000. The index of stress and fatigue were measured by SA 3000. We analyzed the frequency of pulse types according to gender, ages, smoking, drinking alcohol etc by chi-square test with SPSS ver. 19.0. Results: In the main pulse types, there were significant differences according to age(p<0.05) and marginal differences according to drinking alcohol(p<0.1). In the secondary pulse types, there were marginal differences according to exercise, ages. But there was no significant differences according to gender, smoking, body mass index (BMI), accelerated photoplethysmography (APG) feature, stress and fatigue. Conclusions: This study suggests that the pulse types are affected by drinking alcohol, ages, exercise.
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the health behavior and prevalence of chronic disease in 5,638 city workers. Data were analyzed with frequency, percentage, chi-square test, logistic regression analysis. The results showed that the health behaviors of the subjects were high smoking and drinking, low exercise, and the prevalence of chronic diseases was high in obesity and hyperlipemia. The major influencing factors of chronic diseases were age, exercise and drinking. This study suggests that it is necessary to operate a systematic health management program for the desirable health behaviors in the national, local, and industrial fields.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of a simulated disability program on attitude and stereotyping by nursing students toward people with disabilities.
